Sector Space

Hello, I haven't played since shortly after release. I think the main reason I can't convince myself to login is the silliness that is Sector Space, grids and roller coaster lines all over the place...

I'd read awhile ago that they were looking into changing sector space to give it more of a "Space" feel.

Is there any news on that? Cause once the blue and red lines everywhere disappear, I'm back in. :)

Just about half the update will be making things look similar, but better, than the above image. The rest...well, you can see it when it's on tribble ;)

Oh my! You have piqued my interest. Any hope of a sneak peak? Or at least a hint?

I'll leave you in suspense for now. I WILL say that some of our UGC closed beta testers have seen it and proclaimed, and I quote,

"Got a closer look today and WOW... just plain FREAKING WOW.

... I don't want to go back... don't make us go back... PLEASE... don't make us go"

Oh that's just cruel. How can you do that to m...........I mean, those poor people! ;)

Well, I just looked at the new sector and it's a little disappointing that the grid is still there (Though a less intrusive grid), and the planets are still on popsicle sticks (Though less blatant popsicle sticks).

All in all, it's still a bit too "Astrometrics lab", and not enough "Space, the Final Frontier".

BUT I will give it another try when Season 3 is released, because it's definitely better than what it was before by a long shot. :)

I'm glad to hear another player is considering coming back to the game.

But I will say this, if sector space is what was holding you back from the game then dude, you have NO IDEA what you're missing out on!

    You're right, I don't. lol.

I'm debating whether I'll start fresh though and make either a new Klingon or Federation from scratch to experience things with a new perspective when Season 3 comes out.

But as for good stuff in the game right now.... no idea, I looked for diplomatic stuff earlier and didn't find it at Earth Spacedock, so I'm guessing I have to go somewhere else... I also made a new klingon character a little bit ago to see what their new PvE content was like and couldn't find that either. :(

    Ho hum.

I think Dan has hinted that there will be options to turn off some of the more "astrometricsy" stuff. I hope Suns and the Planets get some nice updates, its be cool to fly around a sector an see suns that look like suns. And maybe some neat looking planets around them as well.

Sector space has always been on of my biggest complaints to this game. Reading this really excites me! HURRY UP SEASON 3!!! haha :)

The new sectors look much better in game. The screen shots don't do them justice.

If the grids and popsicle sticks are what's keeping you away, you will want to come back in S3 and bring your friends.

Salami and Darren speak the truth. I have a strong aversion to playing online games with anything other than default settings but the options coming up are fine and I will echo the anonymous tester who doesn't want to go back.

Darren said more than I would say but read into his statement closely.

    Also, reread this:
Just about half the update will be making things look similar, but better, than the above image. The rest...well, you can see it when it's on tribble ;)

Now, go nuts with anticipation until you see it. There are many things I'd anticipate, purely speculating as a fan and not a tester, that may be overhyped or not out as soon as people might like. This is not one of them.

No specifics. Just... Bookmark Salami and Darren's posts and reread them every day until this hits Tribble.

Heh, I hope in addition to getting rid of all that messy grid and highway nonsense that star system icons finally have the correct star color and planet count for what's inside.

It'd be nice to get some actual different coloured stars in sector space, other than Beytan I don't think I've seen another star in-game that wasn't the standard type.

I don't know if this has been discussed but,

can they have graphical options in the option menu like :

    no sector grid
    no popsicle sticks
    no orbit lines

Then if someone doesn't like them....and I am no fan of them...they can just turn them off?

    just a thought

I could be remembering incorrectly, but I think that Stahl mentioned in an interview that you'd be able to turn certain things on and off.

So if Season 3 is due to go live around December 2nd, please can someone tell me when the build is going to Tribble and also, if and when "The Foundry (beta)" will hit Tribble, I like many others were not lucky enough to be chosen for closed beta testing, which just makes me and others want to get in there and test it even more so.

can they have graphical options in the option menu like :

    no sector grid
    no popsicle sticks
    no orbit lines
    t

I disagree with this "option menu" suggestion completely...
Optional, really? Some things are simply not meant to be, although I'd be happy with them in my astrometrics lab, oh wait, I don't have one.
Eliminate those three selected items from the game completely!

With it being against the TOS to use those modifications, and the possibility of a ban around the corner IF you're found out to be using it, some people (like myself) would rather not risk messing with that; which makes this update a really, really good thing.
