To start with, I know there are other threads about possibly having T6 ships in game. I don't want to step on anyones toes, however I was thinking about this:
1) Just let players craft their own ships, but only as long as they have to work with fellow fleet members to do it.
2) Let me "upgrade" a lower tier ship to T6 level so I can FINALY use my favorite Star Trek ship from cannon without being gimped. For me that would be the elegant Galaxy class.
3) Give Feds a way to upgrade the Targeting sub system abilities in Sci ships! Even if we can only pick one to upgrade to level 3 and only two to upgrade to level 2, thats a lot better then what we are stuck with right now.
do we really need another galaxy variant ? give us somthing new ... from now on... i think for every ship we whiney feds get. the klinks should get 2. for every fed carrier thread they should get a new carrier skin.

Personally, I think these two steps should just be combined. this is one instance where having a fairly high admiral rank rather than stopping everyone at captain can work to our advantage. Use memory alpha and all the existing ships for tier 6. Have the players use their rank to upgrade the ship of their choice in the way that they want, within limits of course, a cruiser should still be predominantly engineering focused and such.
Your first custom refit could for instance be 'on the house' when you hit fleet admiral, with each refit you decide to do after that costing credits/merits and anomalies (to fit with the whole crafting theme.)
Or rather than using memory alpha, give us utopia planitia shipyards to do it.
Custom refits are something I've been advocating since beta, Tier 6 seems like a good time to bring them in as thee is only so many different ships the Devs can come up with ultimately. Let us use that famed cryptic customisation to make tier 6 work when it comes to it.
Some evil part of me want players to be able to custom design ships when they hit max level (gear layout, not cosmetic appearance). ...But it would cost about 5,000,000 energy credits to create the "blueprints, and some godawful number of marks to then construct one..
Once you have the blueprints though, you could make copies and sell them on the AU...

Just curious how are you gimped by using the Galaxy Class? You can get one at tier 5 now.
I really think that tier 6 ships if and when made should be a communal effort for fleets so accomplish. I know its been talked about in several interviews eventually having the ability to construct your own ships using crafting, EC, etc.
I would love to see something like a summonable typhoon class once your fleet "builds" it.
No... I really think we need more EPIC ships... not only that, but TITANIC in size. Maybe nearly Carrier big in proportion and mass. Something collossal like the Scimitar... add 2 more weapon slots fore and aft for cruisers, 2 fore 1 aft for escorts, 1 fore 1 aft for sci ships. Also I DESPERATELY need a Sci/Eng ship with a LT COMMANDER lvl Tactical station... I just can't handle having such mediocre skills in such amazing ships!
i feel like both sides need brand spanking new ships not refits but brand new designs. each should have a special ability unique to it. and they should come available at admiral rack but should not be free let them cost energy credits not emblems and have us have to commision them to be built then recievie them after several hours or days.
Escort: The Dauntless-class (what's to say the Federation didn't adopt the design or the design made it's way to that alien? And it being put in STO basically fulfills the reason why the Dauntless was seen 2550 fighting at the Battle of Proxima?
Refits: Sovereign, Promethus with MVAM, Luna-Refit, etc.
So much possibilities Cryptic can do for expansions. The only trouble is the BO slots. From what we have learned with PvP balance, 2 Commander slots can be very much troublesome. So some brainstorming will be needed.
i think there should be more to "getting" these ships than a free token or c-store "lay-away"................
PUT EARNING the ships into the game.
**so many accolade points
**certain accolades attained
**so many STF's run
**have completed 3 of the 4 STF's
**ambassador level's
something to at least say i 'earned it' rather than gee-golly-george, I got me a new tinker toy....ima fly around ESD and try to act like i am the 1st person to get it....ohhh i'm so uber.
Really, make it worth something. If i spent 9 months grinding missions in Aurilia village(another aci-fi MMO) to get an "iconic" looking skin for my toon (give ya 1 guess) then i would spend X_Y_Z amount of time here in STO to strive to get something just as good. Starships arent bought for 25 latinum in "gumball" machine, you gotta have "The right stuff" to be assigned one, let alone a top-of-the-line flagship starship.

Make us learn ship designs/blueprints in order to construct varients. Crafting a ship could give you access to all the various models of that type, i.e. if I craft a cruiser it would encompas all the cruiser models from T1-T5+, crafting an escort gives you access from T1 light cruiser and T2-T5+ escort models.
This way when you craft your ship it can be something completly new or it can be a refit of an exsisting conon model ship! Adding in Bridge Officer positions could initiate individualized style of play, however maybe the promotions need to be tied to the type of ship the captain has focused.
Thus, as a LtCmdr(FED) I could learn "Cruiser Captain" which would grant a Engineering Officer promotion specifically. "Heavy Cruiser Captain" would also force one of my promotions along the Engineering path. "Exploration Cruiser Captain" would force two of the promotions to be engineers.
This would ensure that you don't develop a Cruiser that is tactically superior to escorts but would allow for custom secondary functions. So you could have a Science ship with a Cmdr Tac only after you have a Cmdr Science.
So much possibilities Cryptic can do for expansions. The only trouble is the BO slots. From what we have learned with PvP balance, 2 Commander slots can be very much troublesome. So some brainstorming will be needed.
So why not make two Commander slots avalible to all players, and all factions? Besides, PVP has never been "balanced" anyway. No offence.

I can understand that.:D
But do you realy think Cryptic's not going to make us upgrade to new ships first chance they get?
