OPEN PVP ideas...

:)So, here is my two cents…

I’m sure someone has already mentioned this but it’s a good idea and think it needs revisiting.
What about open pvp, I know many don’t like the idea but if you have to flag yourself for it you become open game. Perhaps you think you could try to go to earth in your flagged ship, the ESD sentinels would just take you out, but at least you could try. Flying in enemy territory would bring a whole new dimension.

What about a pvp neutral zone were we could build fleet/or personal bases that could be destroyed. These bases would have to be protected. They could offer a dock yard for building new ships. This space station could offer new aspects for crafting that could only be done on a space station. Maybe even shops for crafters to sell their goods. Also the more faction bases in the zone would affect who controls the sector, which would give special bonuses to controlling factions.

also...

What about missions that flag you for PVP in the zone, like a "get the flag" missions" or say, steal mission. what about planet colonies.

what about ships that you craft with the aid of the station, gain a special bonus so, so if you’re station was being attacked not only would the attacker have to fight their way to the station but a all out ground combat/defend would break out on the station to defend the new technology. Something that could be taken. Maybe this could only be taken or destroyed at certain times or when certain actions/tasks are being done, so the station is vulnerable were the fleet could be there for sure.

What about colorization? Colonizing a planet possible, “ambassador missions” if it’s populated. Once you gain a base/colony you would have to defend it.

Just a thought…

I like the open PvP idea, though I'm sure a lot of players wouldn't be so thrilled with an entirely open PvP system, but flagging oneself as willing to do open PvP seems like a good option to have.

I would worry that the number of players actually willing to flag themselves would be fairly small though, and that might make it difficult to find opponents in a multi-shard system like we have now. Perhaps there could be Open PvP shards, Open PvP sectors or subsectors (a Neutral Zone - probably no longer so neutral in a time of conflict - like you mentioned would be great as a PvP/Capturable Territory region) or a combination of some of the above PvP schemes might be able to further concentrate those players who wish to do PvP.

As someone who played EVE for a while and who experienced open PvP attacks by far better equipped players many times, I would not want STO to create an environment where any more experienced player could prey on any less experienced player at their leisure. At the same time, I certainly don't think that space should feel "safe" to travel around in, especially for those playing on higher difficulty settings. With STO's travel between locations being much more open than the point to point travel of EVE I think there is some room for both PvP play and the avoidance of PvP play if one wishes it.

I think I agree with the Open PvP Shard. That would mean all players who would want to be in it whould shift to the same instance, Once the instance fills up, then the server could create another instance. Two or three conentraded and nearly filled instances is more effective than ten or twelve nearly empty ones.

Overall, I'm for an open/consensual PvP system, so long as it is able to be toggled on and off. Perhaps a system similar to [insert popular MMORPG name here], in that once you enter certain "home" territories, you become flagged automatically.

The idea for the destructible stations/outposts is nice. Unfortunately, my experience has been that most players will wait til a relative "quiet" time to attack, rather than face any sort of meaningful defense/resistance.
