Buy up to mkVIII at DS9. A shop set into the wall with a dancing orion.

You can buy up to mk X on Quo'nos, then mail it to yourself ;)

Edit: If you don't have a KDF I can get you a mk X for 2k.

You can also pick up a purple one from the Mark of Vendors store. You need either 35 Marks of Valor or 35 Emblems converted to Marks of Valor. The purple Bat'leth is supposed to be good against Borg.

I would like to see the Japanese Katana, or a Frence Rapier purchaceable for Fed players at Spacedock. If the Klingons can have their sowrds, why can't Fed players?

I second this notion. I would like to see the daggers that you see NPC's whip out and start stabbing you with purchasable as well. More melee weapon options, even if they use the same combos, would be nice just from an aesthetic viewpoint.

Starfleet officers are not really known to carry Katanas or Rapiers into battle - as opposed to Klingon warriors where the Bat'leth is standard issue.

Whilst I agree that both factions should be balanced, it also saddens me to see the "Trek style" being dissolved by Starfleet characters equipping weapons that simply do not suit them, which encompasses both the Bat'leth as well as the other bladed weapons mentioned here.

However, what about a combat knife with the same DPS as its Bat'leth-counterpart? Although still somewhat out-of-character for Starfleet, this could be justified a lot better and would look a lot more fitting.

While I don't really consider Enterprise to be main continuum cannon, they did practice with Katanas in preparation for fighting with Klingons. Picard and Guinan fought with raipers at one point. The Vulcans also have cerimonial Lipiras, and the Andorians have Uulshan. In today's military there are cerimonial swords that are worn, such as a color guard during a wedding, promotion of a Flag officer, and other military cerimonies. Some of the soldiers in Iraq took arcaic weapons into the fight. One unit even took Tomahawks into battle and actually used them! It is not unreasonable that ground troops would resort to hand to hand combat when the power cells for their weapons were drained, and they have not been resupplied.
