targeting others: then you

The following is an application to space combat scenarios:

I try to keep an eye on those I fly wing with. If they need the assistance, I gladly will target their ship and offer what ever heal or buff I have available. Is there an easier way to target your own ship (in a hurry) when YOU need to heal, or buff your own ship?

IMHO there needs to be a little easier method to be able to switch between an ally ship or your own.

Thougths?

Maybe have a setting that prioitizes who recieves it. Such as target weakest team member for Engineering and Science Teams. Or Target stronghest player for Tactical teams.

These keys are bound to these functions by default:

    F1 - target self
    F2 - target 1st teammate
    F3 - target 2nd teammate
    F4 - target 3rd teammate
    F5 - target 4th teammate

Alternatly, you can just clear your target.
If you have an enemy targeted, and he has a team mate targeted, your abilities that work on friend or self will go to whoever your target is attacking. If you clear your target, the ability will work on you.

I will point out it would be nice to set default tagets, and not have to pick or select. Keybinds are great and faster than manual targeting, but in the heat of combat, I may suddenly have a brain TRIBBLE and forget where on the keyboard the hotkeys are.
