Except the game will look "nothing" at all like that.

What your seeing is 100% pre-rendered CGI, and zero gameplay.
Sure Cryptic did a lot of mocks ups and not actual gameplay footage, but at least they did 90% of all their stuff with the game engine.

Saw this game a while back. Will be interesting to see how Cryptic respond to a ST MMO that will be free and whose Graphics also look very good.

Quite a alot of talk going on about Infinite Space, but only time will tell, still have a feeling STO will be better though (even with all its annoying bugs :p)

I hope the game is good; I really do. That said, cinematic trailers mean absolutely NOTHING about the game itself.

Well I thinks its good for the market as apart from a new movie in works theres nothing else out there to keep star trek going, i would love anoher series

Wudnt hurt cryptic to have a little competition out there

Every MMO is in competition with every other MMO. The don't need to be the same IP or even the same genre to be competition.

If its a good game, perhaps. But if its not, then it only diminishes the brand.

It's a browser game.... even with the Unity3D engine - it won't look a thing like the trailer. ;)

When I used to watch Sacrifice of Angels I used to think how awesome the Defiant is.

Maybe I've been playing my klink too long because my reaction to that vid was to think "Get a tractor beam on his *** and subnuc off the Omega!"

Really. It's a free, browser based star trek game. The graphics are going to be on par with farmville so why should Cryptic even be bothered about it? Flashy video yeah but once again it was accompanied with cheesy voice acting.

Thats not true at all. The most recent browser game I can think of is Clone Wars. Now, the GAMEPLAY is TRIBBLE, but the graphics are decent. Sure, the ART STYLE is cartoony(like the show), but the art style and the graphics are NOT the same thing.

I highly doubt that what you saw are actual ingame graphics. Probably a CGI teaser as someone else suggested. I would not expect such good graphics from a browser based game.

Free browser games are also very heavy into micro-transactions which means you're going to be very limited in what you can do until you start opening up your wallet.

As for the trailer video ... I thought it was rather silly. A big fleet of Galaxy, Nebula, and Defiant class starships getting trounced by Birds of Prey, and the BOPs didn't have a clear numerical superiority. I could just thump the TOS film producers for having a fetish for BOPs because it seems like that's the only ships Klingons have, and they're always uber powerful.

However, the trailer mentions nothing about gameplay. For instance, is it a standard number crunching game like Evony where mathematical equations trump player skill? Or will players have more control over the outcome of a fight? Is there empire building involved or is it just you and a ship? Lots of questions left unanswered.
