What Lies Beneath unplayable with Dynamic Lighting on and ATI Radeon

I usually have Dynamic Lighting turned off because I've found that the game crashes a lot when it is enabled on my ATi Radeon HD5850. Even with the latest driver package 10.10. It is an issue that has been mentioned many times. Will it ever be fixed?

I needed to turn on Dynamic LIghting during this week's feature episode, because otherwise the flashlight doesn't give any real illumination. The game crashed multiple times, especially during a Devidian fight, but also it even crashed duriing a game of Dabo!

This time when the game crashed I clicked on the CrypticError program I found in the game folder and it seems to be uploading a 766 MB crash dump file. So I hope that helps you fix it. ETID: 11794253

This is indeed a critical issue, I got around it by turning off dynamic lighting before firing, then back on after fights

I left dynamic lighting on but had to tone down the lights to 3
1 shadowed light to stop the crashing
    ati 5770 here
    10.10 drivers

It is a real pain in the *&!

I also normaly have Dynamic lighting stuck off, but what lies beneath really calls for it to be swiched on.

I have only played through the mission twice, Fed and KDF but I have had the game crash on me atleast Five times in as many hours. Three of them sent error reports but I did not take note of the numbers.

    In before NVidia shilling.

    And check this out:

Some guides to help pinpoint the issue.

No, I have to disagree. I have an ATI 5450 and I play with dynamic lighting on and no issues.

I have an ATI 5770 and also experience the crashes during the mission "what lies beneath". I will try the work-around with the dynamic lighting later. Sounds like a good idea.

No, I have to disagree. I have an ATI 5450 and I play with dynamic lighting on and no issues.

I think you're outnumbered by the people experiencing crashes to suggest that we're all imagining it. And I believe I've seen that you aren't even running all your settings at high quality max everything, e.g. 5 lights (Picard: "there are 4 lights!").

I don't get any crashes when I set the lights to 2. But that's not the point is it? The game has a setting for 5 and my card should be able to handle it without crashing, but the game crashes. So we're here asking for support.

And it is a real issue acknowledged by Cryptic.

Also, the solution to turn off dynamic lights or turn them down is not good enough, as this is the result:

Dynamic lights off or below 4:

Settings on maximum with dynamic lighting on:

Way better with the lights on!

Yep, it's acknowleded by Cryptic, but ATI also needs to fix their driver - which is why I'd never purchase an ATI card as their driver support has ALWAYS been poor, and they are always slow to respond to any driver issues. At least they do more than one update every two years, which WAS their driver support pattern for a long time.

I had issues with nVidia cards in the past too, but this is my first ATI - I had to go with what was out at the time and this was the only DirectX11 card when it came out. I decided to go future-proof by getting a card capable of the latest thing. nVidia didn't have one until weeks after and nvidia tend to be expensive too :)

But apparently there are also nVidia owner complaints about crashes with STO on the 4xx cards? At least I think I saw some while searching for dev posts on graphics issues...
