My flashlight disappeared

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
So I finished the new mission, which I enjoyed. However, immediately afterward I noticed I no longer had the flashlight on my tray, in my inventory, on my powers list, or on one of my Boffs. Asking around, one other player in zone chat had this problem too, but everybody else seems to have kept their flashlight after the mission. Anyone else out there suffering from this? I want my flashlight back. :)

The Flashlight doesn't work outside of that map anyways. I tried it when I also tried to get multiples (by getting one and dropping the mission then re-accepting) but that didn't work either.

It would seem it's not compatible with all maps. Otherwise I don't know why they'd take it or limit it to that one.

I am missing my flashlight as well, its really to bad as I would have loved to keep it!

Edit: I really liked the cosmetic look when it hovered over your shoulder (even if it doesn't work on other maps), come on devs throw us a bone.

Mine went away also. I wish I could have kept it. I heard in zone chat at ESD that you can buy it from a vendor at the station, but I haven't checked that theory out yet.

Hardware limitations on video cards make it difficult to run too many environmental lights at once. That means that if a bunch of people use flashlights together on a map, it will cause problems, especially for older video cards.
For this reason we decided to remove the flashlight at the end of the mission, and to make it unusable on social maps -- just as a precaution.
If you want flashlights like this, then hardware manufacturers have to make cards with more environmental lighting channels. :)

What about just the hovering flashlight with no light? I like toys!

Well I hope to see flashlights used again in the future. Even if the mission connected to it isn't a horror mission, it would be great to use one to search a battle damaged ship and the like.

before you exit the maintenance area why not try giving the flash light to your bo? See what happens.

THIS, Please! I really love those disabled ship maps, and a really dark one with engineering puzzles would be swell.

Like I said give a few to your BOs... then you can maybe use them on other missions.

Can't you flag it so that only our light is added on our own screen. This would avoid the problem and allow us to keep our lights.

eurk... that's made me worry now. I'm running an mid power ATI card. And we all know how well ATI and STO mix, especially in the lighting department. I think I'm going to be spending most of the mission in Mechwarrior mode, and watching my heat levels!

Is that why only my flash light works correctly while 4 bridge officers with flash liigtts just get short beams, with no spot lighting up the wall. it would of been great to have 5 different lights searching around.

i lost my fllash liight but one of my bridge officers kindly lent me one..

i wonder if i can give a b/o 2 flash lights and then at the end take one from them?

other than the flash lights not working for bridge officers this is one of the best !

This. I'd love more technological props around my character, rather than flesh and blood pets. It is a great way to customize our characters' looks without altering uniforms! A consideration for the C-Store maaaaybe? *Nudge Dan*

Yes, I was disappointed by the loss of the flashlight at the end of the mission. But I can understand the whole "not melting" people's computers.

Reminded me of the ole game "System Shock"

However, a point for future missions. Abandoned Bases from Anomoly missions should have this dark sinister feel. The atmosphere and ambiance of this mission were par none.

(going to agree with other posters and say, any opportunity to create environments to use those nifty lights, please try to do so!):)

Why not keep the item but remove the effect? Or make the lights only visible to the wearer? I don't need to see everyone else's light to enjoy it for myself in social zones.

if you're like me, you're not wondering why the flashlight is gone after the mission, but WHY DOES IT VANISH FROM THE DISPLAY. Midway through the mission i noticed I had the light in the tray, and it was active, but the damn thing just wasn't showing up on screen. No ambient light or becon floating about me.

    FIX: (at least for me)

I'm running a sort of crappy video card in my system since my good one blew up on me. My recommended setting between speed and quality in the video tab under options screen is next to last, one over from highest quality. When I change the slider to the highest quality, turn the flashlight off, then back on again, it reappears on my screen. Then simply reduce the quality setting negative one and it will remain. I've had to do this several times because it vanishes over and over.

I still have my flashlight, but it only seems to work if I'm the only Player Character on a map. (like on my bridge).

That seems like a fine compromise.. I could see the flashlight being useful in future missions.. but I do *WISH* we could have it in social situations too... but I understand *WHY* we can't.

Thank you for the response sir! Amazing mission BTW. Hopefully in the future those hardware manufacturers will be more cutting edge and able to keep up with STO. :D

i loved the flashlight.. my only gripe was that the illumination was too narrow to be useful... i would have liked the illumination coverage to span double or triple the current surface area

I have about 6-8 Flashlights on my BOs, I joined my Friends Mission and got them all then left without him completing the Mission, and I still have them all

Why doesnt Cryptic just limit the Light on Social Maps and let it work on all over PvE Maps ect...

Problem I had with my flashlight is that my Character is huge. The light always points in front of my character and I could not see it do to his size. It was to the point that I might as well not had a light.

Aside from that, this episode is my fav so far! you Dev's have your work cut out to top or even keep this level of quality.

I don't need a flashlight on social maps but there are a few planets I'd love to use it on, I hope you guys will make them usable in the future.
