I paid $25 bucks for this ship. WHY IS IT A PIECE OF GARBAGE?!
This ship is the biggest waste of money and Cryptic points. On the show it cuts through NEGHVAR cruisers and yet it is no better than a T4 Galaxy.
The original point of it was as a reward for recruiting five of your friends to play the game. It was just supposed to be another ship option, not an I win button. Everyone was happy with this option for a few minutes, until they realized "Wait a minute, I'm a Star Trek fan. I don't have five friends.":D
Everyone complained.
So Cryptic put it in the C-store for those who didn't want to recruit. But they priced it at $25 because they'd rather you earn it by recruiting. If you recruit five friends who subscribe, that $75 a month, whereas if you buy it in the c-store, that's just a one time $25.
So basically, the $25 is a way of bypassing the recruitment requirement, not an easy way to an I win button.
Although I will give you that the c-store blurb needs more information, you really got what you paid for.
Its a tier 4.5 ship, not as good as a tier 5 baseline but better then a teir 4. You do have a spinal lance, ability to equip canons, and a cloak and as a trade off its not an UBER ship basic stat wise. You really did get what was advertised, you were the one to pay 25 bucks for a ship you knew little about.
Do you think fed players would use anything else if hey could one shot klingon ships with this?
Do you think their would even been the few klingon players here if this ship could do this?
The spinal lance is a joke. Are you serious?? Also. the turn rate on the dread makes is useless to use cannons on this cruiser.
Maybe they SHOULD advertise better, because this being STAR TREK it certainly is not representative of what was shown on Star Trek TNG - AGT.
So are you saying that it was the stupid player's fault that he was lulled into buying something that isn't even a shadow of what was portrayed on Star Trek TNG? Don't fault the player for a product that is mis-representive.
Not suggesting it being an "I win" ship. That is a cop out reply. I am noting the discrepancy between STO and Star Trek TNG.
It is not a tier 4 ship. It's better then the Galaxy Class. Better Bridge Officer slots, special ability, ability to carry dual cannons.
Is it a good tier 5 ship? No. But hey, people complain about the Advanced Escort, the Assault Cruiser or the Deep Space Science Vessel, too. At some point, all these ships will probably be revisited by the Devs.
But don't expect it to be ever "worth" 25 $ if "worth" is only determined by combat worth. Say no to pay-for-power.
Not sure if you were expecting the ship to outclass anything but, it really dosnt lol. I just use it for pve. Ill never take it into a pvp situation unless i really dont care of the outcome of the battle :P

No offense, but if that's the ONLY discrepancy you've noticed between STO and TNG, you haven't been paying attention.:D

Actually yeah I am.
Think what you want of the phaser lance. Its basically a built in limited arc beam overload 3, its up to player skill how useful it is.
They should list Boff arrangements, weapon load out and console slots like the Refits and the new ships recently added to the game. However it is what you see in All God Things, its a 3 nacelles galaxy class with a massive cannon on it that can cloak. That is what you got.
There is nothing "cop out" about it, what you want regardless of canon is something that can one shop Neghvars, that is a I WIN ship.
I will say the spinal lance, you have to use it wisely. Its not going to magically cut through any ship out there unless your fighting ships that are on a ltc level while your at va1. I found the best way to use the lance is to wait till the enemy ship is pretty low in health and part of the shield section is totally out, then I fired and BOOM there she goes.
I also look at it too from the TNG episode.. that AGT galaxy fired a bunch of phaser shots at both klingon vesssels and problably managed to take them down alot and finally.. using the lance to finish them off, and only destroying one ship.. its the same ingame as well.

Five spinal lance shots. Yeah... If I could fire it five times in rapid succession at a Negh'Var... I'd WTFPWN it too. We have a cool-down on each shot to make it FAIR though. Like what you said above ... there would be no klingon players if the Feds had a ship that could do this, otherwise they'd only use the Dreadnaught, and klingon players would quit.
In the show it cuts through NEGHVAR cruisers and yet it is no better than a T4 Galaxy.
Are we not supposed to conclude that you want it to behave the way it did in the show? Maybe you just mean it should be more powerful in general? Well that's an unrealistic expectation because it would be out of balance with the other top tier cruisers in the game. You will never see a mmo that does not balance equipment power in this way.
Why didn't you search the forums for feedback on the performance of the Galaxy Dreadnought before you bought it? You would have seen many similar complaints to yours.
There are two words that are the first thing they teach you in highschool economics class. You should've stayed awake to learn them: Caveat emptor
I dont have a problem with it myself. The turn rate is no good but I make up for that with evasive manouvers and phasers on the front and back along with phasers turrets on the back as well. I really use the cloak. I had to adjust my play style some but it is worth it if you uncloak and, spinal lance the bad guy while emerg power to weapons and some other things.
Dude, I think you're missing the point. These ships representation only run skin deep (and in some cases doesn't even go that far.) Otherwise the balance in the game would be greatly uneven. A little research before buying the ship would've probably saved you from the bout of buyers remorse that you are suffering from.
a. If you are playing as a Fed VA and you are angry about PVP against Klings , it has little-to-nothing to do with your ship . Fed vs Kling PVP in Tier 5 is in a bit of a ****** place right now for the Feds .
b. I'd buy that ship from you in a heart beat for ingame currency (heck , even for c-points , at a cheaper price) . But we're not allowed to sell ships / binded items , or even accounts (life time memberships) .
Bummer .
The ship is the most expensive item in the C-Store, for reasons stated previously. It is up to you, the consumer, to make sure it's a good investment of your resources. There are numerous places out there that give you all the ship stats, in comparison to the other ships in the game, and there are very lengthy pieces on the pros and cons of this ship on the forum. If you didn't do this, you really can only be upset at yourself as Cryptic did not advertise anything they didn't deliver here.

Also, let us not forget that you -can- see the stats for the ship before buying it in the shipyard. The Dreadnaught is listed at the Tier 5 Ship Console.

So what the hell Cryptic????!!!
Yeah, I was disapointed with a C-Store ship I bought too. It was not the Dread, but I thought it was going to be great, so I paid the 2,000 CP's for it, and boy was I disapointed. I flew it once, it melted down like butter in front of any conflict, so I docked it and went back to what I had before I got it.
Once again I am not saying this be an "I win" ship.
The ship was yrs into the future than the current Assault Cruiser - Sovereign which was introduced in circa 2371.
But yet it is drastic undercut from the continuity of the show.
Your first line contradicts the rest of your post. So, you dont think it should be an 'I Win' ship, but you also believe it should be way better than the sovereign, and by extension the rest of the T5 ships.
Once again I am not saying this be an "I win" ship.

Yes you are.
What you wanted was a ship that could one shot a Neghvar, and even in canon as the video shows it does not do that. You are advocating that it should be a I WIN ship based on that alone.
Its not undercut from the continuity of the show, what you saw was a galaxy class with a bunch of extras on its hull. In game thats what you have with the phaser lance, dual cannons, and cloak with general tier 4 basic stats.
As others have pointed out there are numerous ways ingame and out of game to see what you were buying before you clicked that button and you chose not to do any of them. Instead you spent $25 bucks on a ship that you thought should be able to one shot a neghvar and you continue to say this is not about an I WIN button. I find that very hard to believe.
i remember the day where EVERYONE bought the gal-x (i was one of the few exceptions). i remember pvp was literally full of them. What did people discover? they cant fly them. Theyre less then a cruiser and less then an escort, they sort of sit in the middle. Within a day everyone switched back to their old ships and the forums erupted with people *****ing about it. If you'd bothered to reasearch it you probably wouldnt have bought it and then you proceeded to create a pointless thread where you are trying to incite fellow anger nd vent your frustration offering nothing new and constructive. If you want help with flying the thing there is a thread in the cruiser section of these forums called "gal-x spec assitance"
The thing is people forget that getting a new ship takes getting used to and you cant generally just use the same set of powers for it from your old ship. I bought it in the sale and personally i quite like it. it brings the element of challenge and forces you to use all of those powers! its not the best ship. however i feel that its fairly balanced. at the end of the day i think its fun to fly and thats what i care more about then being able to survive the longest
I am pretty ahppy with mine and can get the phaser lance to work pretty much as intended, you just have to know how to use it.
Evasive Manuevers for speed at about 12-15 km
weapons battery
beam overload
decloak at 7 km and fire below 5 km
then torpedo spread
this works pretty well as you have to stirke like a hammer, if you don't then you spend all your time trying to line bakc up for a shot which can take forever with a fast ship.
And this is yet another reason why selling gameplay-altering items in the C-store sucks for the game... people complaining that they're not gameplay-altering enough.
I can't help but laugh at the OP's misfortune. $25 dollars down the drain because he thought he was getting an "I win" ship. Amusement factor is high. I somehow think that this was his reaction when he took it into PvP.
I may not take my own Gal-X out very often, but I purchased it after reading all the feedback on this forum. I went in with my eyes open, and not expecting something uber. It's a decent ship if you use it properly, and I mainly use it as a vanity ship. Regardless of it's strengths and weaknesses, I still find that it looks awesome.
The ship was yrs into the future than the current Assault Cruiser - Sovereign which was introduced in circa 2371.
Which means nothing. The Galaxy X is from the game's general time period, but that doesn't mean the Assault Cruiser hasn't also been upgrades since its original launch. Ships get upgrades in tech all the time. Keep in mind that the TOS Constitution was upgraded to the TMP Constitution. There's nothing to say the Assault wasn't also similarly upgraded to be able to keep pace in the 25th century.

Stop lying about not wanting an "i-win" ship. At the start of the thread you said:

Not-Lazy people get the ship for Free as well as the 2000 C-Points and are quite satisfied.
agreed
im lazy but i managed to get 1/5 of the way there.
I gave up once i realised all my friends were at least one of these;
a) female
b) poor
c) hated Star Trek
d) hated MMO's
e) hated me
