i really think people could make some very interesting stories on ds9 (and other locations) that literally are just stories. I might even attempt to recreate an episode of ds9 (without the original characters obviouly) to see how well it works.
Ive got 'in the pale moonlight' in my mind.
But having more room to operate on ds9 would be ideal to help those stories come to life.
I agree. That said, if we can build our own interiors, we might be able to at least create some UGC content on not-yet-existing DS9 areas. We just have to create them ourselves.

I want to see this too though I hope that eventually all social areas get a general revamp.
Ive noticed in some of the weekly series episodes some of the ceiling don't seem so gigantic, hopefully with time we will see a DS9 interior that isant hugely out of proportion.
DS9 for me has been a minor let down. The station design (internal and external) closely resembles the TV show, but there are some flaws that the fans will notice. The main areas are a very close match; such as the Promenade, Quark's Bar, Operations, Bajoran Temple.
But where is the Infirmary? and why can't I walk through the long curved corridors of the Habitat Ring? DS9 has a crew of 400-1,200 with maximum capacity of 7000 people, but it is pretty much empty. I don't get the feeling of scale (Source : Technical Manual).
Here is a screen capture of the Habitat ring as shown on the TV show in many episodes. This is features carpeted areas, and has a warm 'hotel' feel to it. It would be nice the be able to rent a room for additional storage and setup a base of operations.
But interiors of DS9 that you are able to see generally feel cold, with plate bulkheads everywhere. On the Story Mission "Crack in the Mirror" you are able to leave the Promenade (at last), but the area you explore doesn't appear in any of the TV episodes that I remember (See screenshot here).
Ds9 is like my second home. If they enhance ds9 I'm sure I won't be doing that many missions anymore. Just hanging out on the habitat ring, watching the bajoran women come in every day:D
I say we need Morn in Quark's, That chair should never be empty!
DS9 will always be my favorite, too. Since I can't have Dr. Bashir (er...I mean since we can't have him in the game) I'd at least like to see an infirmary. The CMO hanging out in a storage bay with auctioneers is a little weird.
I was most disappointed in Ops. If they give Kurland an office, it had better have a baseball on the desk because Sisko will be back!
Other adds - Morn, Security office, animated rolling "gear" doors, windows at a good height for wormhole viewing, Jumja Stick vendor next to a Klingon restaurant where Klingon opera can be heard...
Number one dream request - a holodeck at Quark's. Even if it was broken and all it would do is show a guy in a coonskin cap welcoming me to the Alamo I'd be giddy happy.

Ah you paint the picture well. Yes Cryptic there are a lot of people who care more for canon and atmosphere then DPS, I'm certainly one of them. Ds9 can be the coolest MMO hangout in the history of MMO hangouts.
on a side note: I'd really looooove to see the klingon restaurant, with it's manager playing the achordeon, singing loud, while you enjoy your gagh in the company of a beautiful lady^^
I just had a random idea, as a side track into revamping DS9.
How would players feel about purchasing or requisitioning quarters aboard DS9?
The way I would see it is that you would purchase the space with either Starfeet Merits, Energy credits, or a combination of both. You could use latinum to purchase different furnishings or themes to go with your quarters and it could be a fun place to hang out with other players and fleetmates. It would also be another place you could show off your trophies and accolades through a floor stand and wall stands similar to what we have in ship interiors.
I would imagine that you would recieve a basic quaters the first time you visit DS9, but in order to get more elaborate and functional interiors you would need to spend X amount of EC or SF merit.
Im thinking this could be a good currency sink for many of use who have ht VA and simply don't have anything to do with all of the everything that we have acculimated. It would also add more immersion to the game, helping it to feel more like the star trek universe, which is a big attraction to star trek fans everywhere.

I love it too. The one thing that's missing in STO is your own spot (aside form your ship interior), a place where you can withdraw, decorate and store items, and what would be better than quarters at ds9. I played Star wars galaxies a few months before STO and I really loved the fact that you could place a house on a planet at your own discretion, or with a guild, build entire cities.
This also brings up the idea of Fleet owned starbases, but I'm sure were going to see those in a while.
One problem. Does ds9 have enough room for thousands of players to have their quarters there?:P

it would have to have the actual room be instanced. so you run round to one of a dozen or so "quest quarters flashing doors" and it then takes you to your room.

This is almost exactly what I was thinking of.
My thought was that a section of the habitat ring (or sliver at least) would connect to the promenade through a large hallway simply to share the instance and help make DS9 feel more like...well DS9. Once on the habitat ring you would have a gradually sloping hallway with a series of flashing doors and regardless of which door you entered, you would be instanced into your quarters.
Now i really really want to make a diagram of what im talking about but im half awake now as it is, so ll post one up later.

Yep thats pretty much it.
i really hope the devs get round to doing something like this. DS9 is in my opinion, the most iconic location we have in sto because ds9 the show centred on the station. but it does not feel anywhere near as alive as it could be.
Agreed. One of the first places I wanted to go to when I started playing was DS9. Got there, and I was like, "that's it?" There really isn't much more to it than K7 or SB1, and there should be more to it. It was a vibrant place, full of culture, and entire show took place there so it should feel more than just your run-of-the-mill spacestation.
I'd love to see them rework the interiors of DS9 so they have a proper docking ring and habitat ring and the upper and lower pylons. Also sickbay etc.
I can really see DS9 being a great place for UGC missions and some great non combat missions could be added there.
Even if people dont add too many, I think DS9 looking more authentic would be a good idea.
You know, i completely agree with this in part that iam sick of the simple fact of would you like to doc at DS9 and it happens. We have interiors at the moment, it is already available, so why not allow us to go to the turbo lift, select the deck in which the transporter room is located and then go to that of the deck and proceed to beam out once you get on the pad to turbo lift.
The Docking would also be welcoming, being able to walk down the hall to that of the turbo lift, once there you choose the deck in which you can depart from the ship that leads to that of the docking ring.
For all the shortcomings and cool suggested expansions listed here, DS9 is still to me the absolute best area in the entire STO universe. It is the only area that invokes the feel of the show, and the only one for which the needed scale for camera movements actually suits the environment.
The visual appearance of the outside and inside comes so much closer to canon than anything else at all in the game. That said, I too would LOVE to see more of the station done in proper arcing segments.
It's too bad that the DS9 fleet action adds those extra sections laid out on the usual irrational grids that make no sense at all. Really, can't we have ship interiors that look just a little bit like what we would expect to see in blueprints?
So bring on all the improvements, but thanks for giving us at least one area that actually FEELS like what we saw in the series...
I know this thread is already a few years old, but I wanted to ask you if there are any plans, or at least any plans in the future, to extend some areas on DS9 ? Like others said before it would be really cool if they added some habitat ring sections, with its characteristic blue lights or some docking ring sections with the grey corridors. If you guys remember they had created the conference room which actually was a habitat quarter and it looked fantastic, unfortunately it's not visitable.

I would rather see a revamp of First City first. That map is the #1 reason that of my 6 toons, only one is KDF. Granted, if they choose to redo DS9 first, some of the ideas in this thread would be good.
Sadly, the entire thread is about to be filled with shouts of "Zombie Thread!" etc, and is ultimately doomed to be locked down for breaking Forum Rules.
Speaking of which, why do we still go on about Zombies when this thread is now obviously Kobali?

/signed a million times. With ESD looking so fabulous now DS9 REALLY needs a revamp... and since it's likely Cryptic are remastering the Dominion/True Way/Mirror Universe missions it would be the perfect opportunity to remake DS9. They should give us a fully kitted out promenade, sickbay, quarks bar (and not as a sep instance too) along with a redone ops. While they're at it why not add Vic's bar in one of the holosuites with some classy music in the background.
Ugh, I really hate the DS9 we have now .

old habbits. and I guess it's the context.
Everywhere I look, people are screaming about how bad Cryptic is.
What's my position?
That people should know what they're screaming about!

I am disappointed with the lack of ares to explore. DS9 should be itself at least as 'big' as Space Dock but I don't feel like it is.
If we can recreate (to an extent) old DS9 episodes then friends, I feel I may redo the season 6 opening episodes leading to 'Operation Return'
