I know that no matter what time you patch someone is going to want to play during that time, but since we've been going for well more than a year with the east coast pretty much getting denied any play before work at least two and sometimes three days a week, is there any chance we could get a switch-up with the west coast for a while?
I would like to to propose that patches be done at 4:00am EDT (1:00am PDT-3:00am PDT) so that they are done before 6am EDT. I realize that this would affect some late-night pacific coast players while allowing some East Coast morning players to play when they would otherwise be unable to. Perhaps even an alternating patch schedule where we get to play sometimes and the East Coasers get to play sometimes.
The game went live in February.
So unless you're counting beta, which you shouldn't be, it hasn't been going for more than a year.
We get two, sometimes three patches a week?
Also, keep in mind that Cryptic is on the west coast. If I lived there and ran it, we'd be patching around lunchtime.
So, keep up the good work Cryptic!
Also, your boss called.
He said now he knows why you're late every day!
i understand why they do it when they do it but it would be nice if say every 10th oatch happened at like 3am in the morning for us brits and the next one an hour forward and so on. So each time zone could emjoy patch free play at some point
Of course its not that big a problem. Im more concerned with whats in the patch then when it is personally

Every time zone experiences the patch at once - thus no one is guaranteed patch-free play.
The rationale is that it impacts the least amount of people this way. It's not like they used a fickle finger and chose it at random - what with a huge team full of engineers and netops guys.

oh i agree, it has to happen some time it just always seems to be around the same time. Just wondering if they could mix it up a bit but i dont really care enough to argue strongly about this

It's a cold hard truth - "It's just good business" to have it at the time when it effects the least.
I sympathise, here in Australia, we get it during our prime game time between 8pm-10pm (depending on daylight savings/timezone) for the three times a week and we pay just as much as the rest of you.
You just have to accept that it's the time it goes down and work around it, perhaps try getting up earlier if you feel the urge to play.
:DThe current time is fine as it is...It will of course anger people that are off to play during these times but you have to understand it is an American company that has certain times that it can update without keeping someone there at all hourse to push the button to initiate the maintenance. If something does go wrong with the maintenance, then there needs to be someone on call to try and fix it, and they also live in the PST zone, so at the present, it may anger a percent of those that play STO, but then again, everybody that gets on at that time would be affected..So, it's a necessary evil. Why not during the down time visit the forums, or something..or bette yet, open the window and get some fresh air.. lol...
JK on the last part...as I am guilty of living on the computer at times as well.
The real problem with teh patch times this week for me was not the time slot within the day, but the slot within the working week.
After the patch Crptic went home for the weekend it seems. Then we found quite a few bugs. Specifically - the ones relating to spending emblems. Fair credit to the guys who found a workaround, but frankly patching on a Friday is a very bad idea. The weekend is big playtime for many casuals and to have something broken by a new patch is sad. Given the speed with which a workaround and then a fx was found ths clearly would not have happened if the thing had been patched midweek.
Could I also suggest that hotfixes an patches are not budled with the weeklies, but done at a sperate time. We all want the weeklies, but would rather not have otehr stuff that may break things on our gaming weekend. Test those things mid-week.

Hehe, as a software engineer myself I am pretty certain that patching on Fridays is a bad idea.
It still happens all the time.
Pretty sure it's Friday.
Pretty sure there was no 'schedule' in this 'scheduled maintenance'.
Pretty certain they are patching the server.
Unit tests? Live/hot deployment? SERVER SIDE load balanced server farms (as apposed to this client side TRIBBLE)? (No, you don't have to buy $50k/pop load managers from Cisco, software layer 4 switching is free).
I know I personally wouldn't much like the idea of losing work schedule consistency because of moving the maintenance window. Really, just don't worry about it, it's not that important. Especially for the East Coast 'pre-work' schedule. It really kinda sucks for the Australian player-base.

Of course, I'm biased living on the West Coast.

stuff it, youre not important enough to change how they operate just because you dont like it!
this is when they patch, this day, these 2 hours, its regular enough to set your time piece too get used to it!
