realistic expectations

I've been playing with my PCs onboard graphic card so far. I've been using the lowest video settings to get a decent flow. Needless to say I'm ready to upgrade my video card. I'm wondering if my expectations are realistic. Is it actually possible to obtain the type of graphics as seen on the websites video captures? If so, how much of a video card am I looking at. I have been looking at a Geforce 9500GT. Or am I being foolish.

that would probably do fine, I'm running a 2 year old GF8500GT with medium-high settings. Don't just go by the GF number though, those can be confusing, look at all the specs. Remember, with GF cards the first digit doesn't really mean anything, a 9 series is only marginally better than an 8 series, the best rule of thumb is that you want a card with a higher second digit, for example, a 8500 will generally be better than a 9400. At the same time look at the memory and other specs, because they aren't always related to the model number.
