FPS slow down and stuttering started yesterday

Hey all I hope I am posting this in the right place.

Here are my specs:

iMac 27" running Win7 via Bootcamp

4 Cores
ATI Radeon HD 4850
VRAM Total: 512 mb
8G Memory
Intel Core i7 Processor 2.8 Ghz

So I started playing STO last week. I custom set my video settings they are around the medium mark.
It was all working perfectly until yesterday when it suddenly started to drop my FPS every 10-15 seconds with alot of stuttering.

I updated everything for Windows 7 and tried again. It was fine for the first 5 mins then started doing it again.

The FPS drops to around 5 during a space battle now which never used to happen at all and stuttering still occurs when flying in space anywhere especially when turning but occurs as well when flying straight.

It just seems weird that it started to suddenly do this.

I reset my video settings to minimum and it stopped the problem. But everything looks TRIBBLE and I dont see why i should have to do that if it worked totally fine with better video settings before last night.

I also tried updating my drivers and it seemed to work again when i first logged in but after 5 mins it went back to stuttering.

I also noticed since yesterday that my computer heats up much more then it did before yesterday. I check all the time esp when playing STO and I have definitely noticed a heat increase since yesterday.

Also i dont have anything running in the background so nothing else is hogging resources. Anti Aliasing is off as well as post processing, Bloom has to be set to low since yesterday otherwise its unplayable as well. Before yesterday I had Anti Aliasing on 2 or 4, and Bloom Effect was set to High with post processing on. Nothing seems to be working and i just cant figure out what could have changed in one day to drastically alter my game play.

Any ideas or thoughts?

Thanks!

Yea i took a few days break to see if it would fix itself it didnt. Whats weird is that its happening in WoW now as well. Im starting to think thats its a computer issue rather then STO. Both games ran beautifully till the stuttering started happening in STO. The same day I went to Wow and the same thing was happening and continues to.

Its really weird. I know its not my computer specs as both games ran perfectly before hand. Any one have any ideas on what can cause FPS stuttering?

I know my imac heats up alot faster and hotter when running games via bootcamp because its running a game and a different OS that is not native to Mac. Maybe thats the case?

Only reason i dont think it could be this is because I used to play LOTR on this computer via bootcamp and it never had this problem, and i played it for months.

Any ideas would be welcome. Im not Win7 savvy so if you say anything about settings please be specific. :P

Any help would be much appreciated

    Thanks!

I'm bumping this because I'm having the same issue. The game is pretty much unplayable for me. I've tried everything possible to fix this problem on my end and I'm out of options. It's just beyond my comprehension how a game I've been playing for nine months with no problems has suddenly become unplayable for me due to the framerate drop issue. I have trouble believing no one knows what's going on.

    Can someone please help us?

Im glad its not just me tbh. I actually had to quit my sub due to how unplayable it is. I love the game but ill only resub when i can find a fix until then its just a waist of money monthly.

Just some more info to help:

Everything was working fine untill i changed the refresh rate from 60hz to 59hz. Thats when it all start stuttering. I changed it back but the stuttering remained.

It could be coincidence but it might not.

Bumping for some aid please guys!

    Tyvm in advance

This may be a dumb question, but do you monitor you card's temp and voltage settings. An overheating CPU or failing Power Supply (or PS lead) could cause the issues you're describiing - especially if it's occuring in other games (like WoW as one of you mentioned).
