Strange orange streaking

I was getting some really weird orange streaking in the Defari missions, I think it was "Cracked Core".

Took a couple of screenshots, sorry about the resolution but I run at 6119x1080.

The orange streaking was flickering and obscuring the mission badly as well as hurting my eyes. Made it almost unplayable.

I also have this issue on my system - 5200x1050, gtx 470 SLI. It's not limited to the deferi maps, as I've had it on a few other missions as well. The "streaking" effect only happens at certain viewing angles and areas on the maps, which leads me to believe that it's a driver issue with certain map elements/graphical interactions.

Getting to the point where I can't even play that episode anymore. the streaks block out everything and blind me.

Nice to see the quick response from the devs too though I am starting to expect that now.

In most cases I have found that changing the angle of the camera/moving my ship will help to alleviate the issue temporarily. It's annoying, but you can at least continue to play through the content.

That is what I have had to do myself, but I shouldn't have to. That map causes those orange streaks, stuttering, lag, and blotting out of graphics. I suppose I should check the temps on my cards as well to make sure it isn't overheating them trying to deal with the godaweful graphics problem

Gotta wonder if the devs even bother to peruse this section anymore though.

And, I have filed several tickets to which they didn't even bother to respond.

On my own cards, it isn't an overheating problem, they never get above the high 70s (celcius) - the problem is probably related to the drivers or the graphics system, and is going to be very hard to reproduce and track down. If it's a driver-related issue, it may not even be something that the devs can resolve.

Given my own experience with a similar issue in WoW, it may be related to the game's memory management algorithms trying to deal with the tremendous loads that an eyefinity/surround resolution puts on the engine. Have you tried lowering your texture resolution and seeing if that resolves the issue any?

I took a quick look at this problem, and I filed a bug to follow up on. I have a pretty good idea of the root cause though it will be a while before I get to it. Are you running across multiple monitors? It definitely appears this bug will only appear on such extreme aspect ratios of width to height, so if I make my client size 1680x500 in windowed mode I can repro it, but only at about that extreme a ratio.

If anyone else is seeing it, please post your resolution. I can imagine in certain rare cases running at full res on just one monitor (like my 1680x1050 monitor), you might be able to repro this bug.

FYI this in particular is definitely not from an overheating problem - though overheating can cause various graphics bugs.

Try running a less-extreme ratio in that map to work around the bug. We're looking for a proper solution.

If it helps, the error also occurs on the Piercing the Veil (second) map of the Stop the Signal mission.

Unfortunately, switching out of surround is a huge pain in the TRIBBLE, the nvidia drivers lock out lower resolutions when surround is enabled so I have to basically remap my monitors on the desktop to do that. I have upgraded from the 2 gtx 260s I had to three gtx 470s and some 28" displays running at 6054x1200 in surround but I struggled through on all of my existing characters that could do the mission already.
