Nvidia Game Studdering...STILL? SERIOUSLY?

I've been playing literally since day 1 and this was a problem back then too. I payed for my lifetime membership and continued for several weeks until the choppy studdering just became game breaking. It's just so damn annoying.

I just bought a new laptop - An Alienware X17 with all the bells and whistles. Windows 7 ULt, 8GB ram, screaming proc, etc.

The video card could be better but it's a DUAL GTX 260 - PLENTY to run games like Borderlands, Halo, Oblivion, Bioshock 2, etc on MAX settings without a problem at all. Nothing noticable, not like this studdering TRIBBLE

I've tried old drivers, new drivers, changing all settings to ZERO, etc. I searched the boards many times to try and find new snake oil to try. Nothing works.

I'm amazed that the makers of this game are actually recommending using older drivers? Are you freaking kidding me? Instead of fixing the issue you want us to use older technology? That's **** poor.

Anyway, I know there have been several threads about this but damn, just fix it!

Nvidia GTX260 - zero stuttering whatsoever; and have had none since the first fix (in combo with the later 196.21 drivers for Nvidia). Not saying the problem doesn't exist for you; but it might be an issue/hardware combo they haven't seen yet. You may want to post a DXDiag so they can start looking at the specifics top see if a fix is doable.

This is my dxdiag right here, I just ran it. If anyone can give me some insight to this studdering problem I would appreciate it!

Sometimes SLI causes lag because it has to shift processing power back and forth for non-sli games if that makes any sense. I have the same cards and it doesn't lag for me when I am not running SLI or when I am running three monitors in Surround in SLI. Don't know why surround would make a difference for it but I suspect that it is constantly balancing between the three monitors and all the data isn't going through a single cable, but three.

Input lag might actually be the problem if you are running in SLI, it seemed to be mine.

I just upgraded my 9800gt to a 460 tonight and it stutters horribly. Only change was from a weaker video card to a more powerful one. WTF?!

    Hi bogle,

Try turning off anti aliasing in game, and enabling it in your driver control panel instead.

Most likely it's an SLI problem. However, if disabling SLI does not work for you, insure that no antivirus programs are interfering with the game.

Newer drivers commonly introduce new bugs. I recall one particular incident from Planetside where a game patch coincided with a new driver release. Many people using that video card immediately updated their drivers; unfortunately the drivers had a memory leak problem with Planetside. It took a couple weeks of them *****ing at the game developers before it was realized that it was the new drivers fault. :^)

Thanks for the advice, but I don't think the driver control panel overrides thein-game options in STO. Suggestion was appreciated thou. I got it to stop by turning off shadows. Yeah...shadows. odd. I run at 1920xwhatever, have everything else maxed, 8x antialiasing blah blah, runs like a freakin champ and has never looked better....but if I turn on the silly shadows it hiccups. I suspect nvidia will have a new driver out before long so no biggie. Was pretty freakin angry the other night thou.

I got the GTX 275 with the latest 25x.xx NVidia drivers and my only problem is the bloom effect that burns out every detail so I need to have it at 10% or off to not get blinded.

Other than that the game runs fine for me at full 1080p with all graphical settings on max and my PC is far from top of the line.

I have a 260GTX and had some graphics problems. I saw the PhysX files in the STO folder and tried plugging in my old 8800GT and set it as the PhysX card. So far I have yet to see any of the issues I was having.

I just up-dated my drivers to the 260 beta driver and no flickering... works like a charm.
