The subject line above described pretty much what I think needs to be added to the UI controls.
*drum roll please*
We need a mouse pointer overhaul. I for one use a large format monitor. It isn't anything top end but it is a rather larger widescreen HDMI monitor. Now, my mouse pointer in-game at 1920x1200 resolution is tiny. So tiny in fact that it seems to be able to hide in plain view. Dare I say that my mouse pointer seems to have a chameleon-like cloaking device. This is totally not canon and obviously should be fixed! (Right?)
I propose that we get an option to make the mouse a lot bigger, and get it in a different color than the UI. In PvP, when I'm scanning around and panning the camera, the teeny-tiny mouse gets lost in the blue/grey UI. I would -LOVE- to have my mouse pointer twice as big as it is now and be able to color it AWESOME GREEN. This would make it stand out so I can find it and use it to oh... I dunno, click buttons on the hotbar. It's just sometimes hard to do that in quick-time because the mouse pointer is 1/5th the size of the buttons on the hotbar, and, as I said, it gets lost amongst the rest of the UI that is the same color as the pointer.
As it is now, I have a real hard time with the current default pointer size and color. Please help me by giving my humble mouse pointer some self confidence and an ability to stand out and be recognized.
You know what, I have this issue as well! When i'm in the midst of a battle with lots of stuff happening on the screen I sometimes lose my mouse pointer and have no idea where it is. I usually have to move my mouse like crazy and hope I can catch it with my eye. I agree that more pointer options would be a good thing. I think I'd have an easier time if I had a pointer that was gold in colour like the Starlfeet insignia.

Oh I totally agree. I too have random fits of mouse abuse. If It were a baby from all the shaking, I'd be in jail.
Well, the cursor disappears when you right click and pan the camera. That's normal. My issue has more to do with my eyes losing the cursor when they're focused on other things... like action on the screen. I just think the mouse cursor needs to be able to stand out more.
I personally don't run mods. I've had bad experiences with other games when even running the most mundane of mods so I try not to use them unless I absolutely have to. This issue is not one that is totally game breaking or anything, so, I can deal with it. Just writing this as a suggestion for better game play.
i changed mine to the small yellow one a few weeks back.
i have to say it doesn't help to only change the color, i still loose sight of it in space sometimes (less then with the gray one, but still)... and especially on ground missions with brown/yellow-ish ground textures it gets lost easy.
Will try the big one now, thx for link ...and bookmarked ^^
Probably not entirely to topic, but in a way it is
Battlefield games I have played in the past allow users to change their reticule to any color gradient they can make out of the Red Green and Blue using a simple 3 bar slider system to change the color of the reticule.
They also allow us to changes how transparnt it and our interface is.
I myself use an offshade of bright pink, as its almost never used in any other texture / environment.
Think about it, desert sand, can still see a bright pink.. jungle.. bright pink wins again.. snow wow that shows up still.
What does STO have for a mouse cursor, some blue / black arrow thing that blends into just about every area I can imagine, mostly because this is a space themed MMORPG.
Can we atleast be able to choose a mouse cursor or perhaps change the colors of it so its easier for us to see.
I agree with Daya. There are times I'm in the heat of battle and i can't find my mouse to click on certain items since most of my attacks and batteries are not hotkeyed.
I've had to throw the mouse cursor around the screen rather wildly to even notice were its hiding..
In posting this and my other post there.. I've also realized I'd really love to get a lock option to the video settings like Windowed Maximized mode. Alt Enter and Alt tabbing as much as I do seems to randomly change it back to fullscreen...
If you are running newer versions of windows (at least 7, but I think vista had it too) you can set it up to show you where the mouse is (it draws a big circle centered on the mouse and it shrinks down). This works in-game and is even more noticeable because the circle flickers.
Its an idea, though it would be a good idea to have some sort of pointer adjustment control.
It should be fixed. I refuse to use mods, too much trouble using mods with a MMO, but with all the complaints I have read, it should be an official fix. We shouldn't have to use mods just to be able to see our pointer.
Color and size options within the game are overdue, I'd like to see Cryptic add these ASAP please.
Color and size options definitely need to be added, but the issue is bigger than this. Color and size do not really matter when the cursor disappears, i.e. stops being displayed., other than help you locate the cursor when it reappears.

Yea that was my mistake on that one, I didn't realize till today I was way off topic. I should know better than to be reading/posting in the forums at 3am when I am over tired and not thinking straight. Sorry about that.

Hmmm... Interesting response considering my intention was to "agree with you" but say "in addition" that Cryptic needs to do more than just give us color/size options. Cryptic needs to fix it so that the cursor does not disappear.
My problem is not that I'm losing sight of the mouse cursor, it's that the mouse cursor disappears from the screen, and that when it decides to reappear it takes too long to find it because it's too small and not a color that stands out against all the background noise (i.e. all the eye candy).
Should i remove the old cursor-file or restart my computer cause i saw no change to the pointer.
There are 2 localdata folders in your Star Trek Online folder and that can get confusing. You need to extract the content of the zip into the localdata folder which is inside your Star Trek Online\Live folder.
Dude I'm running mine on a Samsung 57" hdtv and it is fine. You may want to check out your settings. Now there is a problem where my mouse pointer vanishes and I get stuck in look around mode. Another is, once in a blue moon, when there is an open dialogue and everything gets grayed out and my mouse disappears and I cant exit out of the open dialogue. When those happen all I can do then is log off and log on.

Yeah but should i remove the old cursor file which was there before i loaded the zip file cursor?

Well, If I gamed on something with a nearly 5 foot wide screen, my pointer would be 4 inches across too.
But hey, thanks for your input I guess.
There have been other threads about this in the past. I still have a problem with this. I was hoping that something would've changed by now, but it hasn't.
Thankfully I'm not colorblind. I don't know how color blind people can even see the cursor if its at the bottom of the screen and mixed in amongst the UI.
Well, I for one don't plan on ever using an HDTV for a computer monitor. The refresh rates are abysmal (even on new TVs). i only have a 30" HDMI monitor but it is fantastic. I also have a 7.1 digital dolby surround for my gaming PC.
Still doesn't help the mouse issue one bit though.

AGREED! I thought that I was having this problem because I was getting OLD.................
I'm glad THAT isn't the case, I can now tell my wife that I'm NOT too old to play!

Yea That'd be awesome, everytime I jump in most games
or walk on STO... mm no thanks
Good idea though, just not for me.

It really doesn't seem like a tough fix, does it?
Thanks for bringing it up again.
Hey man, it works great, especially with surround sound and a big subwoofer that makes all explosions that much more satisfying.
Still doesn't help the mouse issue one bit though.
THANK YOU for this~!!!! This made my life hulluva lot easier!!!

ehm mods are not allowed right?!
AND yes new cursor is needed i lose it all the time on my 24" screen its not funny anymore lolz.
