Starbase 1

It doesn't need to be changed, it just needs to be scaled way up!

As you can clearly see from the image I am linking ( http://imgur.com/H4WB5 ), Starfleet merely incorporated SB1 into the new, bigger and better SB1! The top sections match, there's even a rounded section at the current middle that matches the rounded section of the old version! Sure, it's not an exact match, but they probably modified it bit by bit, until they realized they needed the complete overhaul it was given.

Of course, scaling SB1 up would mean they would have to scale Earth up, but we all know the planets could use a little oomph in this game, right?

And remove the blue starfield, the devs say they strive to stay as close to canon as possible. Put a plain black starfield in its place, adjust the lighting to be darker and more like the Pelia sector and you will have an awesome looking system.

I agree, that would be awesome.

I dont think they need to scale up the exterior, or that when they talk of changing it they mean the exterior. Might be wrong there, but I believe they are talking about redoing the interior of SB1 to better suit the playerbases needs.

Ive always thought the planets looked a bit... TRIBBLE considoring what the game can do. They are pretty average at best. I like how the new EVE planets look currently. If STO could have that sort of look to it then it would be great.

As for the stations, they definately need to be larger and quite possibly less populated. It seems there are far too many people running around which on one hand makes them look busy but on the other makes them look small (especially as all the NPC's seem to do is walk around (give them jobs!)).

I would gladly welcome an upgrade to the current space stations, DS9 being the top for me. I know it is pretty large but it doesn't feel like DS9. Something needs to be added/changed (please, please, please add the DS9 theme music when you warp into it!).

Oh I will say also, if you are going to go back and touch up the stations PLEASE make sure that when people beam into one they do so via the transporter room. There are transporter rooms on every station (the one on Sol station is next to Quinns office) so use them! It would be awesome if you could make it that people had to go out that way too but im not sure if that would be such a great idea as it would force people to run back and forth just to get on and off.

Also regarding transporters you should always be transported to them regardless of where you are beaming, even on ship interiors!

With ESD, I would like a more thought out Interior, because it's just a small concidering its a HUGE station.

For instance, the CMO shouldn't be at a Kiosk, but a hospital! And the Shipyard actually needs to be at a shipyard. The Offices in an actual office area.

If the older Starbase makes a return, I would love to get a voice clearing me to enter the Space Doors and when I get close to the gantries, we dock.

I’d like to see it scaled up on the inside and out. It’s supposed to be the headquarters for all of Starfleet isn’t it? I’m asking that I think it is but some things I can’t quite remember. Either way I think it needs to have a lot more grandeur to the whole design. It should be big and a marvel to behold. I’m not saying opulent so much but elegant and technological wonder to behold. The old one was massive like it could eat a galaxy class in one bite. On the inside it could have a lot more levels and decks I know you want to get to places quickly but sometimes the best way to feel immersed in game is to have it take a while to get from spot to spot.

It would be cool to have some windows on the inside that let you see the gaping caverns interior where new prototypes are being built in zero gravity. You could see worker bees floating around and workers walking though parts of the ships that hadn’t had their outer hall built yet.

Maybe have a section of the zero gravity area were player could float around and play games some kinda games. In my head I’d think of it as a sorta worker designated relaxation area. Ya I know it’s not something that was ever seen in star trek. It’s just that it’s something that I’d think would be done. During break people want to let off some steam and play around like a basketball hoop and some game rooms in offices. Except in this case office is a giant space station and the giant oxygenated gravity less hole is your construction site/cubical.

Anything to make it feel bigger and more alive though, the odd guided tour.

ild like to see ships crash when they get too dam close to a planet istead of just whiting out the screen with atmo collision, cmon, its always been funny in past space games to whack a planet head on at full speed and laugh at the various explody things you can do! maybe even make destroyable planets in some missions for the kdf to blow to hell as examples to the puney races of starfleet!

There are some really cool ideas here!

I agree, the interior should be a LOT bigger. Currently, we can walk a circle, with windows all the way around, on a section that, based on the view from said windows, is about in the middle of the station. With the exterior scale the way it is, that section is several times larger than a galaxy class hull.

Check out these blue prints: http://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/lcars/starbase-79-blueprints.php

They have some interesting things to say, but the thing to get out of them here is the fact that the interiors are HUGE.

    Don't you dare say bigger...
They will just misunderstand you and make the current rooms higher!

I'm pretty sure Earth Space Sock (as linked) is a separate facility across the way from SB1. There's no canon indication that SB1 is ESD and that's always just been conjecture.

In this case, ESD is present for decoration behind the player who warps into Sol and Starbase 1 is based lightly on the orbital office complex from Star Trek The Motion Picture.

Earth Space Sock! Protecting the feet of the galaxy from blisters caused by poorly fitting shoes!

Aaaanyways, it is my opinion that they are one and the same in game, since a mission, I believe a promotion mission, tells you to go to Starbase 1 to talk to Menn Hilo, who is located on Earth Spacedock.

Looking at the pic, versus the ship and station in the foreground, I don't think the the scale is even close to what you're suggesting, the doors on the original ESD would have to be much larger than what you're showing to accommodate any ships besides escorts. A Connie or Excalibur would need much larger doors.... therefore, I think you need to make the image of the original ESD at least three times as large as what is pictured currently.

Edit: Didn't mean to necro the thread, it was linked from another, much more recent one... :o

I think you missed his point. His photo makes it seem like old Spacedock was "built around" and the resulting facility is WAY bigger.

Its just that the station in game isn't scaled up to the point where this would be evident. But I feel the ESD has been underscaled the whole time.

    The whole idea is ludicrous.

I doubt the Federation would have the technology or resources to waste on such a gigantic structure.
Not to mention that a construction of such enormous mass would not be able to be anywhere near earth because it would most likely have its own gravitational field.
