Bridge officer task forces

Ok in the last ask cryptic it was mentioned that they were considering making it so that you could promote your bridge officer to captain and then play as them. While this idea sounds fun i think I have a better one.

My idea is that you can promote your officers to captain rank once you are an admiral. Instead of becoming a new character they would become a captain of one of the old ships you have. They then can join on PvE missions however NOT in PvP missions. However this will not mean that there will be a ton of tier five ships following you around. In my idea based on what admiral you are (LA, UA, VA) you would get a certain number of points like lets say for example that at VA you have 8 points. Now a ships tier controls how many points it takes up. A tier 1 takes one point, tier two takes 2, etc. You will only be allowed to have up to tier four ships not tier 5. Now assuming you are a VA and have 8 points you can either have two tier four ships or 4 tier 2 or any combination that adds up to eight. Then these ships will have the bridge officer you appointed for the ship and maybe some sub-bridge officers that are bought with starfleet merits or honor in the klingon empire. The sub-bridge officers will have the space abilities but would not be able to join you on the ground and you would rarely see them at all. This would keep in effect the limit on bridge officers. Now once you have your task force if you will you can bring on certain PvE missions and this way you can use some of the ships you have lying around.

Cannon reference to this can be found in several Ds9 episodes and maybe even other shows as well mentioning admirals coming to the rescue or attacking planets or something with the admiral's task force.
I just thought this would be a fun thing to place in the game and it would help your bridge officers to advance some more. I am not sure of this is the correct area for this thread and if it is not let me know.

I would like some input in on how to control the bridge officer task force space combat.

does no one else find this interesting or am i talking to myself. i think this would be cool and help me to feel more like an admiral as well. nothing major but a little something for PvE and if you could redo fleet actions this would be even better.

I'd rather have something (correct me if wrong) deeper than a STO equivalent to pets.
    • What if we could send our former Boffs (and now Captains) out on missions, maybe even join them should things go awry? Make it feel like you're directing them and not just tagging along. :)

    • What if you're charged with protecting and developing colonies in Nebulas too - ones populated with foundry missions? You send your boffs to protect space under your command to patrol. :)

    • What if you also send them out to do resource gathering (skipping a tedious aspect) while you oversee some boring desk job - like helping build frontier spacestations? :D

    • Maybe you bail out your former Boffs if they run into trouble (essentially creating a new mission type)?

    • What if those cool mini-popups from the recent weeklies came in when you called for fleet suport and it showed your boff coming in your former ship?

I like all these ideas that is exactly what i am talking about things to make BOFF's a more important and interesting part of the game keep them coming.

You seemed desperate for replies, so here's one. I don't think you're the first person to think of such a thing. I do recall Jeremy from STOked giving this idea in one of the earlier episodes, and I've also seen dStahl bring it up I think in some interviews.

I had a feeling that this was maybe something they were thinking would happen in the max ranks of the game - level 61 fleet admiral for example - because to be a fleet admiral you obviously need a fleet and the devs seemed to indicate that your Boffs would be promoted to captains of your own little NPC fleets flying your old ships.

As for your "not in PvP" suggestion - why not? wouldn't it be neat to have a certain PvP scenario where you have to fight against another player's fleet of boff ships against your own? To see how well they do...

yes i was desperate because to me this is an awesome idea. as for the mention that this might be in plans for the future makes me very excited for what will be coming. and as for the not in pvp i figured it would become to difficult to watch the rest of your fleet, and i assumed it would annoy the carriers but other than that why not.

i would also like to say the basic is already available it would take somewhat of a mixing of the saucer pet and applying it to carriers that release the bird of preys and what not. so again i would absolutely love to see this in the future.
