Ship Editing Problem - #949984

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I've been having this issue since, at least, the Season 2 launch. I don't recall if it was happening before then.. Anyway...

I've been sending GM requests back and forth today:

Just tried to edit my Constitution (TOS) ship, and it will not allow me to edit it. I've had many of these active and have been able to edit them before.

Edit, as in changing the appearance of.. through the ship editor. It will not let me change away from the deafult color / pattern / ship material / lights. Seems as though there have been some issues with ship editing since Season 2 launched, for me at least.

Thank you for contacting Star trek online support. Once you customize your ship in the bottom right it will say how many energy points it will cost to customize the ship, as long as you have all the energy points it's requesting, you will be able to change it. If you have any other doubts or concerns, please feel free to contact us again. GM Yume

It is NOT a matter of credits. I've been playing STO since CLOSED BETA. I know how the editor is supposed to function. The editor isn't even displaying the changes. The color selection, for example, both defaults are shades of grey... I click on the box, get the options panel of the colors, pick one, and the square stays grey. When trying to apply the patterns... I click on Material (default is 0a) and select any of the available options (Type 1-3) and it stays on the 0a... You can't add patterns to 0a.. this is know as well.

This has happened on several of my newly created alts... The current character I am playing is Sorun. Joined Trill. I have 96647 Energy Credits.

There is a problem with the ship editor. It's not user error.

I've tried editing ships on another of my characters. Hugh, my Liberated Borg. Going into the ship editor shows no problems whatsoever. Colors are changeable, material is changeable, patterns are changeable... etc.

The line breaks are from my edits throughout the day... The GM responses evidently only update to replace the previous one.

Is anyone else having this issue at all?

Yes! I was having the same issue but figured it out.

On the Advanced tab, scroll down and select Fleet Emblem/Logo as opposed to the Starfleet Emblem/Logo. The Constitution skins you are used to will appear.

Thanks for the response, but when editing my ship, there is nothing for options after clicking the Advanced button.

You have to be able to switch away from the default "0a" material for them to appear.. and it won't let me change the material...

For reference.. here's a video I uploaded for the GMs to view...

I'm wondering if the emblems might have something to do with it though, seeing as that's really the only change to the ship editor since Season 2 launched.

    Edit:

As an afterthought, I wanted to upload an example of one of my established captain's Connie.. to illustrated what I know I should be able to do, and cannot:

If you are unable to edit your Constitution, PLEASE do a GM report... I get the feeling that they aren't aware of the problem, or think it may just be me. Hell.. I thought it might just be me, as everyone I've asked has stated they can edit theirs.

I have been unable to "customize" my ships since Friday aug 13 2010.

These are zero credit changes to ships, even changing a bridge which cost me $2000 credits did not take effect once the change was applied.

After I make the changes I am standing in earth space dock shipyard, check my ship and it still has the configuration of what the ship looked like BEFORE I made changes. I try to change ship material type from 4 to 1, nope...change did not happen.

I even went so far as to go to DS9's shipyard to customize ships, nope...not working.

I submitted ticket to cryptic, got typical " we're working on it" reply.

I am trying my utmost to be patient and hope for a fix with a patch or update that may happen in the future.

Maybe when the "excelsior" ship is released I will be able to test ship customizing function on a basic level to see if the problem still exists.

I got this back from them:

This is a very curious bug. I attempted to reproduce it again and I was able to find what you posted in your video. Turns out this error is caused by not being in a fleet. If you have your character join a fleet and then change instances you will then be able to edit your TOS enterprise. Granted the enterprise should be editable without a fleet, but that will need to get a dev fix. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are glad that you stayed persistent. We would never have found the cause if you had not continued to update your ticket.

I haven't logged in yet to see if the patch JWS64 mentioned fixed it completely yet.. :P
