For those who dont know me i am an avid PvPer and RPer. i have 2 level 51 Klingons and a level 51 Fed, as well as 3 other characters. I have experience in all 3 officer classes and have completed ALL the content in the game on at least one of my characters.
"The queue Hostile Engagement (FvK) - Capture and Hold - Space that you were offered couldn't start because not enough members accepted their offers."
"you are no longer in que for..."
i Think it is safe to say that most players are unsatisfied with the new que system. From what I understand the new system was implimented to solve uneven matches where one side collossally outnumbers the other. many times a percieved inbalance in weapons and technology is often just due to seperior numbers or deployment.
That being said, the new que system fails because such unbalanced games still occur very often. What makes the situation worse is that it now takes 3x-4x longer to get a match now, when compared tot he older system. The VAST majority of players would rathe rplay more matches per gaming session, and run the risk of the occasional unbalanced match!! (fact)
This is extremely taxing to Klignon players who counted on constant PvP play to supliment their gaming experience due to lack of klingon content. 99 out of 100 Klingon players will tell you that now they must wait 30-40 minutes for a single salvage operaqtion match, and 20-30 minutes for a space arena battle. Previous to this patch the waiting time between matches was 5-10 minutes. Since many Klingon do not appreciate the PvE content (unlike me) This causes many of them to log off since the only real reason they play this game is for PvP content.
sure you can say that these people should embrace the new Klignon content, but the customer should always get what THEY want!!! and to trade PvP game content for 8 PvE missions seems a little unfair.
needless to say this is serious problem. i already know 3 good friends in the klingon ranks who have stopped playing the game due to this PvP que situation, coupled with the 3rd major klingon nerf in the game (one for each major patch).
i have 2 easy solutions to solve the que system problem:
1st solution (easiest):
Bring back the old Que system.... it was better!
2nd solution (complex):
The que system should have a limit of 1 que.
meaning, you can no longer que for 3 matches. you may only que for one match at a time. In order to que for another you must first leave the que you are currently in.
bring back salvage op SMALL.
the large salvage op took a long time to populate in the old que system, and the new que system takes much, much longer!
once you are in the que, stay in the que.
once a player is in the que system for a match, the only things that will remove them from the que are the following:
the start of a PvE mission or scenario
the start of a warzone
the start of a fleet action
the "idle for 10 minute" warning
voluntarily leaving the que.
the match countdown timer will no longer have an sleep option.
sleep is not an option, and you will not be re-que'd. this prevents people from being impatient and starting PvE, or grabbing the next match because they are texting, chatting, sleeping, smoking etc.
enable indefinate late entry.
on matches that begin that do not have the full amount of players, allow late entry at any time in the match until the maximum number fo players is reached. people may enter the match with the already existing feature: "join any match"
The bottum line is...
the problems this new Que system was suppose to fix still exist. Also, this new Que system has introduced a debilitating wait for matches which now ruins the PvP experience. the PvP experience was one of the most IMORTANT benefits of the game.
thank you for reading the post, please reply and PLEASE add ideas of your own. we will not overcome this important issue without community concensus and constant feedback!
TO THE DEVS:
you guys work HARD ont he game and have a very demanding customer base. but PLEASE do not let PRIDE get in the way here. your latest attempt to fix the PvP que system is a miserable failure. please do the RIGHT thing and return the old que system while you work on a new method to solve the original problems. THANK YOU
Very good post, I agree the que system is borked and I have seen a dramatic drop in klingons on at any
givin time which I belive is 99% due to the lack of pvp so listen up Devs and do somthing when it takes
hours to complete your dailys then its time to do something.
I agree the pvp queue system sucks ... i much prefered the old system hell i didnty care if i was in a 2vs1 3v1 5vx or what ever .
I didnt care if teams favoured me or were against me i just love my pvp .
i used to hate cap & holds .. so now i treat them like the arena i go for as much damage as i can & to hell with the flags idc if the other team wins via flags.
As long as i make a good show in the damage charts
Iv said it b4 if i hadnt bought 2 x lifer subs id have walked away a while ago in disgust at the way the klingons have been treated.
I completely agree with the above posters. I love pvp in this game and it is the main reason I pay for my monthly subscription. As the queue system stands presently, I cannot justify the monthly expense that this game requires. I am getting quite bored of sitting at my desk for 30 minutes or more before I get a pop that actually leads to a game. In short, if this problem is not fixed very soon; I, and several others I have discussed this with, will have to leave the game until news of a definite fix is received.
We're hoping to have a brand new PvP Queue system on Tribble later this week, which should address many of your concerns. I can't wait to hear your feedback on it.
Im not so down on the new q system as i see any effort to fix pvp as a win, even if it fails to fulfill its goal. I agree queuing for one match at time would greatly help the "drop off" rate. I would go beyond that, and suggest a instanced chat for each q be created so that players could immediately begin to coordinate upon getting in line. Also I think that people should be able to pick from a few different q's after seeing who is in each one (dont like premades, dont q against tsi). at any rate great ideas here keep em coming <S>

oi i can barely contain my enthusiasm. just be sure to keep private qs as they are a very beneficial thing for the game even tho they arent for everyone. GOOD LUCK!

They're not holding your credit card hostage. You're free to unsubscribe and re-subscribe whenever you want. What do you want them to do? Close down the servers until season 3 comes out?
I know I just didn't expect such a major component to go so long, and after 2 or 3 patches, with still no fix. I would imagine that I'm not the only one who is surprised by how long it is taking but these little reminders that something is being done go a long way towards shutting me up. Thanks for continuing to work on the problems, Cryptic.
As for the suggestion that people just leave, one could do that but I doubt there is the chance of a prorated refund for time unplayed as people aren't just month by month or lifetimers. Truth be told, we are hostage to a game that has incredible potential to be loads of fun when some basic things get ironed out.
Worst thing about the new queue, is that is crashes with other broken content. I usually play fed, and what I use to do is STFs and Explores on a team, and PvP solo (my fleeties aren't very PvPish atm ).
When after 2.0 teaming for explores became impossible (and the loot went away), and the 2 stfs we were not sick and tired of went away, I thought to myself; this is a good opportunity to work on leveling my low ranking klingon...
And what do i find? Leveling by PvP takes forever now, and involves 80% waiting...

I want them to NOT RELEASE BROKEN CONTENT.
This stuff was ticketed as broken A MONTH AGO ON TRIBBLE.
I don't think any PVP game system on the market has ever gotten it right on the first try. There is always a map issue or a lobby issue. Since PVP is not the primary plot of the game (unless you like Kilingons) you can play around with it.
The main issues right now:
1. PVP needs to focus on the small games before going big and massive/ 1v1 3v3 5v5 max once all the bugs are taken out the lobby issues taken care of then you can start pushing the limit. Cryptic just jumped in to it with massive battle.
2. Rewards need to go to the winners and the losers need to walk away in shame. Right now its like good game both of you here's your pizza and soda.
3. I think the biggest thing that people keep skipping around is the system always qeues when you doing a mission, or a buy, or posting on the exchange. So in massive 10 vs 10 games 6 on one side say yes! and 3 on the other side say yes! Then it dumps the whole game rather than taking 3 and 3 or doing a 8 on 8.
4. As much as I want to see massive fleet battles like in DS9. I think it would be better to get a solid 1vs1 system going then expand it to 2 vs 2, 3 vs 3 untill a majority are happy then you can go on to massive fleet actions I say majority because no one is ever going to be 100% happy with the PVP system.
5. In the end Halo Reach is coming out in September early October so you may see a lot of the dedicated PVP fans who buy monthly subscrip, turn to Bungie to fill there PVP addiction.
In the end Keep it simple, keep it easy, Keep it small and expand it after the majority agree its working.
If you look at all movies its always been one vs. one ST2 ST3 ST4 ST5 Insurrection little skrimish the excited the fans the most. Big fleet battles happend only after DS9 then they went back to one on one in Voyager

Yeah but Cryptic appears to have learned nothing from the games that preceded it.
WoW has PVP down to a science and its queueing system is extraordinarily elegant. They've taken years to refine it and I see absolutely no innovations incorporated in this game.
You'd think they'd learn instead of trying to reinvent the wheel.

I can't really give you a answer on that one since I skipped WOW Neverwinter Nights was still free at the time and still popular with maps like 3 towns.
I will say you shot yourself in the foot since you state (They've taken years to refine it and I see absolutely no innovations incorporated in this game.)
Star trek online has been out for 6 months and there doing everything they can to make it better as fast as they can write code the staff is all running around at warp 9.5 right now hoping there chairs can give them more power before the warp core blows up.
Yea it was really broken you would be fighting for your life shooting PvE Klingons get 3/6 sqauds and then Oh que time Snooze or Drop or fail your mission.
Cap and Hold 5 on 10 you only need 6 or 7 ships to pin the other team down while 3 capture objectives.
40 kill ground combats that a 1 vs 10 so you die 40 times in a clan recruit.
Empty ship arena matches that you get stuck in.
I would say 30% of the time a got a great outing only to have 6 unfair battles then 1 great battle.
So I would say reverting seems like a good idea but its not its just going lead to more problems. The real way to solve it is a dedicated GM server or avitar (hand of god) or (Red robe) Who uses divine intervention or conscription to fill a unfair match. That's a whole other element thats missing from the game and whole other post called.
(When the DM or GM shows up in your ready room!! Phazer set stun!)

The only problem I personally see with this situation is the "snooze" option. If someone queues up for PvP and the criteria is met to start a match then everyone needs to be moved instantly. That right there would have eliminated a number of the uneven matches. If someone doesn't want to be interrupted while PvEing they should remove themselves from the queue, how else is the game supposed to know what you'd prefer to be doing? This, combined with just allowing people to queue up for one type of match would have likely eliminated most of the issues with uneven matches before season 2.

That might be an interesting proposition but it seems like they have their hands full as is and baby sitting queues might not be the best use of resources. I rather like the idea of reverting the queue system because I do agree that what we had in that respect was better than what we have now. At least before, when things were uneven people had the chance to /zone chat about ways to level the playing field. Sure, it didn't always work but playing against the odds is infinitely better than requeueing infinitely.

however MY question is:
can we "roll back" the qeue system to the pre-2.0 system, until you guys make a new system?
i dont think that the old system was that bad when compared to this one!
