I will keep it simple.

Advanced players usually have PvP ships and PvE ships. When we are asked to engage it would be nice to be able to choose which ship we enter the engagement with.

I don't know about anyone else, but I fly one ship on my characters for PVE and PVP. There isn't a real reason to switch things around, especially when I spec for the specific ship type.

But I don't see the harm in this idea.

Switching a ship in this game takes significant time...hard to let people do it on the fly.

If you do not want to use your current ship in a pvp match- don't sign up for a pvp match in your current ship.

Can't have the best of both worlds...............

Actually you can. Just have a PvP ship slot installed in the PvP system.
I for example would have 4 35% increase in shields for PvP and the capture and hold maps. While they are pounding on me everyone else takes them out.

I may not want cruiser for PvP though, I may want to use an escort.

Sorry but I am completely against this idea. Play what you fly, or don't play.

I agree and it should pause the match temporarily while it allows us to respec into the new ship selected (for free) if needed.

    lolololol

The only reason I say no is that bridge officer assignments aren't saved and I usually need a few minutes to get my skills back into position before I'm ready to fly a ship. But assuming that was fixed, why not? How could it hurt? I mean saying no to this seems like asking that Transwarps be removed from the game.

Sure...I have different ships to fit the mood I am in that day
    1)Support and heal

    2)Hurt and Heal

But...wouldn't want everyone 'picking a ship" first. Getting into a good PvP match is hard enough right now.
You go in with what you are flying. Shouldn't be any other way.

I didn't say it was not possible. I said it is not smart.

Giving the option for a non-return to starbase to switch vessel is lazy and stupid.
All it would do is allow the pvp'er to pve in one ship until a pvp que started up - at which point they could switch to thier pvp vessel - gioving players the best of both worlds without sacrifice of time or the unfortunate outcome of being unprepared for pvp.
No they can go back to starbase or Qo'Nos and change ships like everybody else or learn to make a decision on what they wish to pilot before pvp is started.

This might make sense if there were a huge difference between pvp and pve ships.

Why does everything have to be a time sink? Why would you prefer keeping something restricting certain players from PvPing as much as they could?

They could add it to the normal engage/dismiss prompt. It would only add a second or so before the mssion starts.

I'm not begging for this to be added, I just don't see any good arguments against it.

it harms the pretense that you are actually captaining a ship instead of playing an mmo. It's also a waste of development resources in order to cater to leet pvpers rather than casual players.

    .

Its not a time sink issue, its a gaming issue.
Nothing is restricting you from PvPing (other than the ques themselves) as much as you want, but having the ability to switch from a "casual pve" vessel to your "elite pvp" vessel at the touch of a button is a lazy reason and defeats the purpose of being the captain of a single vessel at a time.
If you don't want to do pvp in your casual vessel then don't que-up for pvp in it.

I still don't see why anyone would use two different ships for PVE and PVP. Its pretty silly to me. If you have a good PVP setup, then it will work brilliantly in PVE. But if they do have a different setup, so what?

The queues as they are right now are incredibly broken. You can't be expected to sit around in the PVP ship and twiddle your thumbs while you hope the queues work. I'm not really optimistic that this will change. And there really is no harm in this proposal.

So why not go the distance and remove the drop down queues all together? Make players have to fly down to Eta Eridani every time they want to PvP.

This idea is stupid IMO. I am also running only one ship and I have a large inventory like veryone else. So I fit quite some sort of equipment in there. Before matching up in PvP, I have plenty of time to just exchange the necessary parts if I want. For example switching from Aux boosters to Weapon boosters or use another engine.

What would be MUCH more important if you ask me, is the option for a UI "rememberer". If you switch BOs, their abilities always get deleted on your power trays. It would be a huge improvement if we could just have an option there for keeping the BO ability position on the trays.
For example I have three different tactical officers on my ship, depending on the mission I select the required one. Now the two tactical skills always are on the same tray position for easy remembering, however everytime I switch the BOs, the slots on the trays are empty again and I have to reconfigure it by hand. Simply annoying.

Even better idea... Why not let people in BoPs dock with a carrier mid-game and let them change ship there..

The issue was not where to do pvp, but that fact that one should not be able to jump between ships on a whim.

Not on a whim just PvP. When it is over you would go back to your original ship you want for PvE.

^This. What works against players, tends to wipe the floor with NPCs, at least in my experience *shrugs*
