To Cannon or not to Cannon

So the 64000 energy credit question is this: is there a viable BOP DD build that DOESNT utilize cannons>?

I recently dropped my 3 torp strategy and got rid of plasma, and I found myself wanting that extra one shot torp alot during the fight with EC. So what are the viable option for fore weaponry on a bop if you already roll with tric, q torp, and DBB?

While I wait for the patcher Ill go through what I see them to be more for my own entertainment and time kill than for any real purpose.

Option one: Second fore tricobalt: In my game it wont actually increase the likelihood of being able to fire trics becus of the 60s shared cd and I already have 1 fore 1 rear. All it will do is make me not have to perform a 180 to TRIBBLE one out, valuable, but valuable enough?

Option Two: Second q torp. Again havign a q torp fore and rear gives me only 2 seconds where neither can fire if i am relying on that strat, but it would allow me more straight run oomph before popping the tric and also additional pressure damage due to maximizing q top fire speed. Tough call.

Option Three: something else *(another dual bb?) As if im not micromanaging enough already, I could theoretically pop off 2 BO3 or a TSS then BO without having to wait for the 2 second beam refresh. Also giving me more base energy damage pressure on the fore strike. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

All three of these sound alot better than what im currently using. One single TRIBBLE dual heavy cannon with no CRF or CSV to amp it up. Thoughts? Suggestions? Flames?

    Try to catch a nice CD rythm between the two CRF's and us the TBsS to take down shields faster. TB to be an TRIBBLE, I suppose since its pretty much FnF as long as you stay in arc. I was hot at 100 F and sweaty, so I was in a bad mood. Sorry.

    On a side thought- This build (or at least something similiar) I have used to Birddog cruiser for my wingmen to kill a shieldless targets in pvp. I think max dammage my last time used was 18k with 2d on 12 kills.

    (short pause.) time check

    I wouldfly in at 5km-UC hit with the shield killers backed by aux bat and strip shields.

    btw I have no idea if a 12kill to 2 death ratio is good or not- I really just play to have fun and try to figure out new power combo's.

    The thing is.. You could just as easily run a "OMFGWTF cannon setup using all the normal skills AND have tricobolts. You're purposly inhibiting yourself.
    I like how you're thinking outside the box on your builds, but sometimes you do have to at least give a nod to your peers.

    havn't tryed it yet at vice admiral with my tac in pvp :) so it might just suck

    Heres an outside the box idea Minimax. Why not drop all the tac boffs from you bop. Send them to the galley to admire your trophy case.

    Spam some good old sci... and combine it with a tricobolt and some beams. Perhaps a grave well... charged partical burst Tricobolt combo.

    Or Perhaps a Partical burst shockwave torp combo.

    Load a couple torps 2 dual beams and 2 arrays rear.

    Or you could keep one tac LT. and Run Target Engines... and Trop spread. All together with a grave well Eject plasma mess.

    Lots of options that don't really have to involve a tac boff at all.

    Anyway I know you like diffrent, theres some diffrent for you. :)

    Don't know if it was directed at me or the OP, but I have no peers as I consider most PvP'ers to be higher above my play skill range than me- I make no claims to be any good, and I think of myself as just a lucky noob having fun - some days I'm up/some I'm down.

    You could always join the dark side and fly a Battle cruiser. J/K!!

    I thought you had a fairly solid combination attack, if you were attacking from cloak.

    Maybe add in Photonic Shockwave as your starting your run to force a stun and the inability to turn on defenses while their shields are droping from a beam overload and Tricobolt to the blank shield facing?

    And I have to admit, the Idea of Eject warp plasma has been starting to interest me a little bit. Especially the Idea of a Gravity Well, Shockwave, EWP combination.. But I'm silly like that. :p

    I think a variable I wasnt considering was the synergistic implementation of BOFF skills to maximize the utilization of a certain weapon loadout. Bear with me:

    In yet another crushing loss to an excellent pvper last night (Ultime def MiniMax 9-2 [gf* made me quit early]) I started to see the light per se. I went back to the old strategy of doubling up energy syphon with tss and using viral matrix and jam sensors. Thats 3 debuffs to clear before the tss engages. In one of my kills in this match vm cycled through its range of systems loss and jam sensors cleared his active targeting.


    Thus the target is disabled, and unable to target you (giving you time to cloak, realign, pop all buffs). In this situation as his engines cycled through offline I decloaked, tractored, charge particle burst, fired hy quantums followed by a tricobalt.

    I ended up going with 1 dbb 2 q torps 1 tric fore. on a positive note i look forward to attaining more tricobalt damage when they fix the x/xi disparity and also attaining blue xi torp consoles to probably amp up about 20% more damage. thanks for all the commentaries as its always a work in progress

    I am tactical (ftw?). Anyway i have been continuing to experiment and i find using photnic shockwave very effective for tricobalt delivery in the right circumstance. Still holding onto target subsystem shields and making it work without cannons, rarely but gloriously. So the verdict for now is still no cannons. no CANNONS damn it

    CPB, PSW combos are absolutely deadly when trying to land a Tricobolt.
