New Slipstream drive request

I shouldn't have to be asked by federation traffic control when using slipstream drive if I want to travel to another sector, it should just GO! My BoFFs should have notified Starfleet that I was crossing a sector boundary with slipstream drive before I got there.

I shouldn't have to power down slipstream drive just to speak to starfleet. Airplanes dont stop in midair just to contact air traffic control.

It's in one of the option menus...it says something like "continue travelling when hailed" or some such.

i have that enabled, but it doesnt allow for flying from one zone to another without clicking buttons to make it so. that option jsut makes it so you dont come to a complete stop when a pop up pop's up!

IMO, if anyone clicks on the little triangle to warp to a map must want to go into that map and as such, should automatically start the transfer process when i near the zone border. if you manually fly to a zone border then a pop up should be there to ask, but there should be a more automatic way to jsut fly and 'zone' with out having to keep clicking to choose. silly as it sounds, i would like a function like that.

Yes there is an option to turn it off. Furthermore, if you just went to another sector when you got close instead of being asked, you'd never be able to head to DS9 for Sol, or even approach Earth for that matter. You'd always end up in Delta Valonis since 90% of paths cross it which causes you to stop.

It shouldnt do that. I TOLD my star ship to fly somewhere, not bump into something else and ask me If I want to go there instead.

Telling my navigator to go somewhere should not take more than ONE command.

    But yeah, I hear you.

It is interesting you brought this up. I was actually thinking of something today. How come we don't have a "lay in a course" feature. For example if I am in the Siruis sector and I want to go to DS9 I could tell my helm I want to go there and have it automatically travel to the border, cross into the Beta Ursae sector block and continue traveling to DS9 without me needing to accept transfer to the Beta Ursae sector.

    Thats exactly how I feel.

My starship is one big computer, I told it to do soemthing, why wont it do it?

Well it does do it. When you tell it to go to a system in your current sector block it travels to it. The only time a dialog box pops up is when you get near the edge of the sector. The reason is because auto travel isn't exactly like giving your helm instructions to travel somewhere its more along the lines of lets go in this direction and see what happens.

I honestly don't have a problem with the way it works right now, but I would like a feature that lets your ship automatically travel to any system in the known galaxy just by 1 click of the button without any additional dialog boxes. It'll make a lot of sense and definitely feel more like Star Trek.

The problem is that when I tell my starship to go somewhere, if plots a straight line course, right into a boundary that makes the system ask if I want to go somewhere else.

    This doesnt make sense.

I understand where you are coming from, and I agree. It should only ask you when you are going to the boundary that you have set course for. It sounds easy enough for Cryptic to implement, probably a few "if" "then" statements. Then again I don't know their code so I can't really say.

I guess we just have to deal with it right now. Frankly it doesn't bother me that much.

I hear you, I'm multitasking thoguh. I have boards to read, work to do, so I hate it coming back to sto and find that my ship is not where I told it to go.

Change that one option that was mentioned above and you should be fine. I've had that changed probably since I started playing and I haven't had any problems.

I still cant find that oiption, I found the thing about bulletins, and found the thing about 'dont stop me with popups' but it still asks me to warp when I hit boundaries

It no longer pesters me with beign too close, because I did make THAT change.

Its the fact that secttor space is still cobbled together with traffic controllers who interupt Slipstream drive is my problem.

Go to Controls. Make sure Region is set to Space and find the option called Keep moving during contact dialogs and turn it On.

Oh yeah, I did that, they dont bother me anymore. I don't warp thoguh, I have to respond. slipstream pauses and I have to click ok, and the slipstream timer still goes down, and when I arrive i have to power slipstream back up, and it fades out before I can move.

Slipstream should NOT be interupted by traffic controllers and it still is after using the selection you described.

I thought you meant somehting else, I already HAD this setting set.

    Thanks for helping tho!

Oh, sorry about that. I guess slipstream could be paused when transferring to a new sector, makes sense to me.

Ya, plus it doesn't avoid Enemy Signal Contacts and then you get sucked into them and delays your traveling. This gets really annoying .
