Hey all, I'm a long time lurker, and new to posting on the forums. It's nice to finally step forward and introduce myself. I got STO about 2 months ago, and I've enjoyed my experience with it thus far. My favorite thing of all is that I've had the good fortune of meeting some really nice folks and making a ton of new friends.
I never had envisioned myself being anything but a console gamer. I've had nothing but a controller in my hand from my first Atari 2600 to my current Xbox 360 Elite and PS3. It's always been first person shooters, fighting games, or RPG's like the KOTOR series and Fallout 3.
That changed two and a half months ago, when my home got flooded out partially during some bad rains, and my old computer was part of the death toll. I custom ordered a new PC from HP, and when it arrived, I made a quick trip to Best Buy to get some last minute accessories and a printer. I passed by the software aisle, and saw STO sitting there. I tossed it in the cart figuring I'd try out a PC game to see how my graphics card worked and just what PC gaming was all about.
I was sort of leary because the reviews in the gaming publications I had read weren't great for STO, but I reserved judgement. After I installed it, I played like a super newb, since I had no understanding of what traits worked best with what builds or what skills to use. Since I began, I've probably made and deleted 8 characters trying to find a combo that fits, including an RA5 toon.
I'm happy to say that as of a couple days ago, I made one that I'm going to stick with...lol.
As far as gameplay goes, my honest opinion is that STO is a good game that has the potential to be great over time. I would say 7 out of 10, based most recently off of the ambitious season 2 update. I hope Cryptic continues to give back to the community and that the thinking behind season 2 keeps on going into the future, because this game is just scratching the surface of its huge potential.
I'm still getting used to playing with a keyboard and mouse, and my heart will still belong to my xbox, but I'm happy I've broadened my gaming horizons and STO will always be special to me because it gave me the means to do so. As a sci-fi fan, Star Trek fan, and gamer, I hope Star Trek Online lives long and prospers.
Oh and if any of you see me running around the game with my main character Astarsha, feel free to say hello.

Lately, I've been runnin' as Picard@Captain_Zero because of interest in the Diplomatic missions. More than likely though, you'll see me on as Iaeger@Captain_Zero once the B'Tran missions are back up to specs.
Anyway.... Welcome to STO and Ten Forward. "Leave your sanity at the door!"
In regards to using the keyboard and the mouse, I found me a PC game controller at Radio Shack that I use. Mainly because I killed the "W" key while trying to figure out Legacy. It took a while to figure out but I like it better than the keyboard-mouse set up.
Well, while the Inquisition is en route, welcome to Ten Forward.
Yeah I know of respecs, but this wasn't a skills issue. The issue was bad core traits, and currently there is no respec for traits (which needs to happen in the future).
lol thanks, Raven. Supreme Heretic is my gamertag and handle for gaming globally. It's a combo that represents many interests (Slipknot fan, nod to Halo saga, etc.) and I've been using it for a number of years. I like the witty old world response, though.
Sorry can't let that one pass, you earned the classic Cap welcome to 10Forward..

I will have to make an avatar or find a suitable pic to frighten the kiddies with.
I wrote a ST game in BASIC to be played on a Digital Equipment Corp PDP8E minicomputer while I worked
as an electronics lab technician at the local university. No monitor - the input and output device was a
teletype.
oh i know! If you become my test subject willingly, I'll treat you well. In case you are worried, I am really gentle with my subjects. How about this? I'll give you top class special treatment. I'll only drug you eight times a day and only four hours of machine operations a day. You will eat with your mouth and when you sleep, I'll give you clothes. And I'll stay away from any life-threatening operations if I operate on you. How about it? This is a special offer that I've never offered to any test subject before!
=3 fine...
