I've seen this sort of idea posted before and it makes a lot of sense for a number of reasons. Any player that has more than one ship they play regularly will likely also change setup on those ships depending on what they're doing or if they're in a fleet, the role they're assigned for PvP, STFs etc. With that said, the basic proposal.
1. A "Strip Fitting" button that removes all currently equipped items whether it's on a player or their ship, depending on which screen they click the button on.
2. A few buttons labelled "Save configuration" with perhaps 1, 2, and 3 to keep data storage and database impact low. When clicked the current ship, or player equipment configuration is stored to be easily restored.
3. A few buttons labelled "Restore configuration" and the same numbers as above. Clicking the buttons loads the saved configuration whether it's for a ship or a player.
To avoid issues with this when you might try to strip a ship or character that has more items than you have inventory space you won't be allowed to unless you have enough space with a dialog popup stating you don't have enough space. Another issue that might come up is if you try to restore a configuration but are missing some of the items, perhaps you forgot to get it from your bank or another ship, at which time the game loads as much of the configuration as possible, applies it and then gives you a small summary of what couldn't be restored.
It's a simple feature but coding it, testing it and getting it out there are not so simple. I'd really like to see something like this implemented though because even just levelling alts I know how I trash all equipped weapons that come with the new ships and I have different setups for PvP than I do for PvE. I highly doubt I'm alone in this.
