open up whichever of those programs you have/prefer and have selected and choose your playlist
back in-game, select the music player and you should then be able to play, pause, stop and skip forward and back on your tracks, as well as adjust the volume.
random, what playlist and other settings still have to be sorted on the selected player outside of the game, the one in-game is basically a link to its more basic controls, and turns off the in-game music while its active too.
you can also just turn the music volume down to 0 in the audio settings and use whatever program you like to play stuff in the background...
my machine is kinda old, and the CPU isnt supported (curse me for adopting the pentium D so quickly!) so i have noticed the occasional lag-spike when the tracks change when using the in-game interface, mostly because iTunes is wanting more CPU time at that point
