I firmly believe that there are Trek fans among the Devs and wouldn't be surprised if ALL of them are Trek fans.
But what if the Devs could not control their obsessive Trekkiness?
Meetings would quickly degenerate into heated discussions about the best way to hold a Bat'leth, or whether Kirk and Spock had a special relationship, or how stupid Tasha Yar's death in "Skin of Evil" was (Don't get me started, btw).
There wouldn't even BE a STO to complain about, people. Geez. Can we get a grip on the gripe? Yes, point out minor details that the Devs might want to get around to someday, petition to change things that are real game-breakers, but what point is there in complaining that the game should have been PERFECT at launch?
I, for one, am impressed with how much attention the Devs are giving fans in this forum and their commitment to making the game better. They really do seem to be going the extra mile to crank out fixes and solutions and shiny new stuff while remaining honest and accessible. No, it is not a perfect Trek immersion. No, it is never going to be a perfect Trek immersion. But it's a long, long way better than nothing and I am enjoying it.

This happens all the time. The Bat'leth conversations can be particularly scary since some of the Devs actually have them readily available for use as props in these conversations!
And no... I'm not joking about that!
We really are rabid Trek fans here. We all love what we do, and yes, we do still have those conversations, and sometimes even scarier conversations! We work very hard to make sure you guys have the best Trek experience we can provide you. Make no mistake however, this is a labor of love for everyone on the team. One of the best things about this job is getting to see the kind words like you posted. So thank you, we do appreciate you all. After all, it's you that let's us get to work in this exciting universe each day!

We appreciate you lot as well. Sheeesh @ 1:00am cen. DStahl was in game answering questions. Keeping involved with us in forums and on twitter, just being assessable to us this way is above and beyond the call of duty for most MMORPGs.
I would only hope I would have the diplomacy and patience to put up with all of us and still keep a positive mental attitude. Qa'pla

"I think we need to re-evaluate our core synergies and leverage them for maximal productivity."
"Dude, enough with the buzzwords!"
"YOU IMPUGN MY HONOR!" *bat'lethed!*
....the development team writes their code comments in klingon....don't they?
Only because they do not release patches. Like good Klingon software, the patches FIGHT THEIR WAY OUT OF THE CSV STORE, leaving a bloody trail of variables and procedural calls in their wake, until they emerge, triumphant, on a pile of broken conditionals.
For with Klingon software, there is no 'ELSE" statement, and tlNgn++ has the unique programming function of IF - THEN - DIE_WITH_HONOR

If you were truly rabid Trek fans you would think there would be enough motivation to get some NON blue LCARS in game for heavens sake. Make the interiors properly sized, get some REAL Star Trek music in game...

Can't speak on the music thing, agree in essence about the interiors, but as for the LCARS thing, for some Zodawful reason CBS said they may NOT use the LCARS colors in the series. No idea why they would think that. Go fig.
not that I dont like it, I think it's rather well done. The sound in this game is phenomenal.
but digital media libraries are just better for my style, tens of thousands of songs, running on random, makes each mission a unique experience. .....

I actually dont think they said that in that way, more like they said something complicated and Cryptic went *uh okay, keep it simple all blue then* ....I think if we pushed for it enough we could get it, I just dont think the interior devs are trying. And they keep releasing fugly C-store bridge packs....add some packs with TNG LCARS and I may buy....
I firmly believe that there are Trek fans among the Devs and wouldn't be surprised if ALL of them are Trek fans.
I completely disagree. As a long time Trek fan, it's obvious that maybe some of the devs are "trekkies" but they have no idea was Star Trek is.
For example and not a nit pick, but the fact that federation officers go around shooting everything is the FARTHEST thing from Star Trek you can get. If you were a REAL fan, you'd build in the option to set phasers to stun and make it a point of the game to avoid taking life, that's Trek.
The Klingon side would have a concept of "honor." Nothing is more basic to a Klingon's life than honor.
Species 8472 would NOT be called "the undeen" and they would NOT be easier to kill than the Borg.
It seems to me that the devs almost always get it wrong.
And don't even get me started on TRIBBLE aliens like The Critmo and Vito'D. I mean geez!! Put the salt vampire in before you start making stuff up and stuff that's not even creative. I mean the Vito'D look like the guys from Avatar. I could TRIBBLE a better alien in my sleep.

Friend....i'll point out that even the hardcore trek fans on this forums cant agree on canon.
And that this is a game. Etc etc etc.
Hell, why do i bother? Someone will flame this post, i bet.

That's all I took from that topic and I 100% agree agree agree! 'Ohhh, I'm evil and I touch you and you die.' REALLY!?! I mean REALLY!?! Monkeys on Meth could come up with better story ideas than that. lol
Saddest part of that episode was, she was going to kick box with Ensign Minerly, which happens to be my last name... sad sad sad. I really didn't want to have anything REMOTELY to do related to that episode, now, it will haunt me for the rest of my life.

I think that's an unfair assumption made solely based on subjective opinion. That'd be like if I said YOU had no idea what Star Trek is because you prefer Voyager over The Original Series, or something.

100% true..
personally i feel DS9 > all the others, so i enjoy the heavy combat, no time to stop and question, "do or die because we're at war, not having a skirmish" aspect of the game.. which many dislike.
not saying my point of view is any more valid than anyone elses ^_^
also, it'd be nice to see pics of the dev's with their bat'leths
Personally I never felt that ANY of the cryptic devs were Star Trek Fans until CapnLogan, and I even doubted he was at first, simply by association. Since then I changed my mind: I feel very confidently that CapnLogan is at least as much of a Trek fan as I am, but that he's part of a very small minority if not the only one.
Looking at the bridges (especially the new ones), I am absolutely unconvinced of the veracity of Stormshade's statement. I don't feel any real trek fan would let those atrocities pass, and I'm not even talking about the fact that they're three to four times larger than they should be.
And in regards to the ridiculous size of the interiors, I don't think any Trek fan who would even consider themselves a true grit, dyed in the wool fan of Star Trek would be satisfied with that and give an excuse about their poor camera system. I feel that a real fan would have made the bridge scale as close to the canonical standard as possible then would have fixed the camera problems. I feel they would rather deal with the occasional camera issue as long as they had the right look.
The right look. Yes you have to walk the walk of non-violence and diplomacy; but even more, you have to look the look, otherwise you may as well call your game "SPACESHIPS!" Enterprise suffered from this: They walked the walk, but when it came to looks they just missed the mark. I loved the series, but those same true fans I mentioned earlier just could not stomach it. It wasn't just the looks, I admit; but for a great many, the disappointment in the look led to them looking for problems everywhere else and abandoning it.

And I'll second that one, too. I've read enough posts to see those little wars happen.
I don't consider myself a hardcore Trekkie. I've never been to a Trek convention, don't have a Trek costume, can't speak Klingon, can't quote episodes from memory. Sadly, I was born a few years too late to watch the original run of TOS.
But I've watched TOS reruns since I was old enough to remember and probably before that. I loved "The Wrath of Khan" and some of the other Trek movies (anybody honest has to agree some were better than others). I watched TNG and DS9 every chance I got. I even owned a collector's copy of the DS9 series bible (and still mourn its' loss).
For reasons I will not belabor, I have not seen all of the later Trek movies. I only saw a few episodes of Voyager and I only saw Enterprise once.
I am not a hardcore Trekkie.
But STO is here and I am a Trek FAN and I am happy this game exists. I want the Devs to know that I am happy this game exists and I am a Fan, too.
I have great confidence in DStahl and the rest of the team. It may not be perfect, but it is obvious that they're trying, it's a beautiful game with a lot of promise, and I believe it will get better and better.

dstahl already made this switch when he assumed command:

Of course. Klingon software does not coddle the weak!
