There are certain items that I always recycle upon pickup. For example, I never keep commodities/provisions. There are just too many different types of them to ever save up a stack, they aren't worth enough to be worth selling, etc.
It would be nice if one could set auto-recycle rules. What I am hoping for would have at least three options:
1) Select whole categories of items (from a dropdown, with 'Add' and 'Delete' buttons to add and delete categories from the list) to be automatically recycled upon pickup (e.g. 'Commodities', 'Ship Consoles')
2) One or more search strings (e.g. "chroniton") for item names which would be automatically recycled (again, with add/delete interface)
3) A simple checkbox: 'Auto-recycle odd-numbered Mk items'. I always recycle Mk I, Mk III, Mk V, Mk VII, etc. items, as they do not sell well and I do not equip my ship with odd-numbered items. I always use the higher-powered, even-numbered stuff. Something tells me I am not alone in this strategy...
Of course, all these auto-recycled items would be Retrievable from the replicator interface as per any other recycled item.

I keep whatever commodities I find in my bank. They count towards the number of units being delivered in aid missions, so I don't have to have them in my inventory.
All my stuff sells through extremely quickly. Probably because I sell it all at 50% discount. The replicator recycle only gives 40% back, so I get a better deal. Not as much as selling it on exchange full price and seeing if anyone is willing to pay that much, but still better than recycling. And at least someone gets a useful item I don't need any more and I get their credits instead of it going to an NPC. Helps the economy.
I equip whatever is best until I find a better thing. Doesn't matter to me if it's a Mark III, V, VII or XI item. If I don't have anything better, I use it. I rarely go looking for stuff to buy - loot drops are quite generous.
Your auto-recycle odd numbers stuff might backfire once it starts zapping all your Mark XI gear
