Suggestion: Add more floors to the ship, that the turbo lift can access.

I have a suggestion, Add more floors on the ship?

Let the turbo lift go to, engineering and sickbay
but let the transporter room have its own destination in the turbo lift and its own floor,
also add one floor called crew quarters, where you can put some crew quarters and the captain's quarters also.

You can then have one floor for the observation deck and mess hall.

So total of 5 floors:

1. Engineering and sickbay
2. Transporter Room ( Future Holodeck? on this floor? )
3. Crew Quarters, incl captains quarters.
4. Bridge
5. Observation lounge and mess hall

Then it is possible to make each floor a bit smaller, and make it easier to travel to each room destination faster.

What do other players think of this suggestion?

Thanks

I think this was discussed and decided against.

The rationale is that since they want to have content for us to use, having too many floors means too much travel.

Running through your ship once? Fun.
Running through it for the 100th time due to arbitrary elevator lifts and one function per deck? Teeth pulling.

Yes, but is not the turbo lift is "faster" then running thru the Long corridors of the ship?
You can time the loading time and the time it takes to run from example engineering to transporter room? :)

The loading time between the floors are from 1 or 2 and maximum 3 seconds for me.

I think that the loading time is shorter... when traveling between floors then running in long corridors?

I might be wrong, but I think that this would make the ship more realistic?

There just isn't enough man power to produce full deck plans for each ship. It would be nice, but unless STO pulls in as much as WoW, its not going to happen.

Well, I didn't realize you wanted even smaller layouts laterally. Most players want the vertical size reduced but the horizontal space reduced further?

Maybe. I don't know. It seems like running toward that many turbolifts would take a while for slower video-card people and break their immersion.

They could use the same floors for all ships?
And then use the same "random" system they use on the planets to generate corridors for each ship?
Then slightly changing the room colors should not be so hard?

I don't want my Sovereign, Akira, Galaxy, or Fleet Escort to have the same interior. They are NOT the same ships. Ideally, players would want interiors that perfectly matches the structure of their ship. But that would take a LOT of time and money.

I'd wait until the Genesis System has matured a bit more. :p

We're still having events that won't trigger, fatal crashes, and NPC falling through geometry on exploration maps. :(

I think that the space between the rooms the corridors are a bit to long, when running thru the ship.

But that is only my opinion :)

Are they not the same now?
Or is there much difference in the rooms?

Do they not have identical, transporter rooms and engineering and so on... ?

I may have missed this difference between the ships?

Just changing the corridors should not be hard even if you have more floors?

The Galaxy and Sovereign, but the Akira and Fleet are not, as I use the Medium for the Akira and Small for the Fleet (thankfully, for my immersion and deck plans, I only fly 4 ships regularly).

And beside, I choose the words ideally, and others to imply future incarnations. Some people choose their words VERY, VERY carefully. Reading skills seem to be lacking on these boards.

I have to say I'm not fond of this idea. When/If decks are added down the road, they should have new destinations to visit. Splitting up what we have now makes no sense to me, particularly putting the Transporter room on it's own deck... It's tiny, that would be foolish IMO...

    When we have destinations like:

    Briefing Room
    Cargo Bay(s)
    Shuttle Bay(s)
    Holodeck

...THEN adding decks might be a good option. However, I'd be quite happy if they just added any new destinations to the current decks within reason. As it is, particularly with Medium + layouts, there are aLOT of doors along the hallways that don't lead anywhere.
