Now that we have interiors, now what's next?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Ok I walked around the interior of my ship, and seen a few bugs here and there. Like a door not opening, and people walking toward my personal quarters. lol Anyway, with interiors now in the game what's next for them?

To me like the Bridge, it's all just eye candy, and nothing more. So for season 3 what is planned next with interiors?

To me the following should be done:

1. Being able to get SIT in any chair - I am shocked this wasn't fixed yet, even in other areas of the game, we can just sitdown on chairs or benches. THIS NEEDS TO GET FIXED.

2. Having a place to hang you awards you get , and put items you find in the game. - After all you want to show off your things you gain to friends right?

3. Views out the window of places your in - If your at Earth Dock, we should see Earth dock, If your Around Vulcan, you should see Vulcan. Doesn't have to be real time, just the point of seeing it right now works for me.

4. Mission within your ship - Good start with the Diplomatic one I did, but it needs to get expanded. Deeper missions on your ship, be it combat or non-combat, this is a MUST in a Star Trek game.

5. Working sectors of the ship - Be it sickbay, Engineering test lab, or engineering. We should be able to do a few things in these locations. Example being making a weapon from what we found while on an away mission. Just food for thought.

6. How about some interaction with the crew - We have a ship full of BOs and crew, but no one is talking. :o)

Ok that's my list. Nevermind all the bugs we see now, these will get fixed, and if not that's my #7

7. Fix all current interior bugs.

So that's my 2 cent on the topic, what is yours?

The crew must be fixed, now when we have hundreds of people running around on different floors there must be a way to select the costumes of the crew members, and the people types that are hired on the bridge, humans or Vulcan's and so on...

I am a Voyager Fan and all my BO crew is using the voyagers outfit,
but when the rest of the ship looks like the freaking circus carnival then what is the point?

Also when doing salute to a crew member he should stop and salute back to the captain.

Good point on the uniforms, maybe there can be something added in ship customizing, where you pick the look of your crews outfits.

Shelf 4 of the Trophies in the lounge is messed up, i planned on having 4 escorts(Promy, Defiant, Akira, but the Sabre wouldnt go on :O) and a Q chair, but the 4th Shelf(Sabre) wasnt working, nothing can be placed on it.

So you can put trophies up at least, didn't get that far into the interiors last night, but I plan on taking a closer look tonight. The crew thing bugs me on different levels, they just walk around like zombies. I find myself reaching for my gun ready to shoot them all. lol I just wish we had more interaction with your crew on the ship.

Missions within your ship might be a good place to start, along with just a few good day to you sir as you walk by from time to time.

Already being looked at, once they work out how to make the game engine do it, i'm sure they'll get it in right away

    2. Having a place to hang you awards you get , and put items you find in the game. - After all you want to show off your things you gain to friends right?

Trophy shelves in the mess hall and in the ready rooms already, for previously owned ships and certain accolades. would be nice to see certain items included but this is a start...

    3. Views out the window of places your in - If your at Earth Dock, we should see Earth dock, If your Around Vulcan, you should see Vulcan. Doesn't have to be real time, just the point of seeing it right now works for me.

again, a nice idea, will require custom maps for each location i imagine so probably not something happening soon..

    4. Mission within your ship - Good start with the Diplomatic one I did, but it needs to get expanded. Deeper missions on your ship, be it combat or non-combat, this is a MUST in a Star Trek game.

Already in the works, and the reason why the corridors/rooms are crazy big (check out your engineering, on the upper section there's a ladder to a jefferies tube, which is about 3 foot wide and has a spacing of about 5 foot between each rung!) suspect we'll be seeing this come into action in the weekly updates

    5. Working sectors of the ship - Be it sickbay, Engineering test lab, or engineering. We should be able to do a few things in these locations. Example being making a weapon from what we found while on an away mission. Just food for thought.

my first thought on finding the "engineering lab" was that once they get functionality into ships that'll replace memory alpha for a lot of things.. i can see sickbay being used for healing injuries etc

    6. How about some interaction with the crew - We have a ship full of BOs and crew, but no one is talking. :o)

interaction would be awesome, they already have the scripting to make NPC's salute you in-game (like in the stateroom for the optional part of the promotions) so i'm sure they can work that into it. the NPC scripting does need some work however, crew interacting with invisable consoles in the middle of the corridors, or walking through consoles in places! oh.. and they are looking at making a ship-wide uniform option too, just a case of ensuring all the potential variables for the different species are not going to cause problems

So that's my 2 cent on the topic, what is yours?

responses given in red in the quote :)

most of this is from posts given by DStahl, its worth keeping an eye on his responses in the dev tracker for stuff like this. as he's the Executive Producer now if he says he wants to see something in game then there's going to have to be a damn good reason why it cant be!

I *still* want to be able to travel from the bridge! "Ensign, set a course for the Devron System, Warp 8."

I know the technology to do this is not present in game and could be costly to implement. I'm not asking for it right now but sometime in the future this needs to happen. It's too iconic to be left out of the game.

Well the one thing I say it's unless would be, the need/ want for a working bridge, one that let you move in sector space, and orbit the planets or bases you visit.

You don't need this to be a combat view too, just switch us to the 3rd person views we have now, but having the bridge view swtiched to sector space would be a huge bonus. With added map views of different systems too. :)

Warning: This post might seem *****y or seem like whining, but it is unintentional. I'm just trying to point out the logic flaws of the things that goes on, while suggesting a few things that could fix the problem.

I'm bothered by the fact that they walk around like zombies too.
I'm also werided out how many of them seems to be on those certain floors. I tested it out on the tribble server and there was actually too much crew members for my liking, and also against all logic.
For instance, I know that my ship apparently holds 200 crew members, but I would think that they would be evenly spread out throughout the ship, so therefore all of them wouldn't be stuck on the existing two levels besides the bridge. you know what I mean? so there's no need for a hundred crew members to be walking though the halls.

they actually glitched up due to the massive amount and started standing in the same exact spot as other 8-10 crew members. they looked like they had an transporter malfunction where they fused together into some sort of elridich abimation. And I have the screen shots for proof.
although they don't seem to do that anymore, so that's something. but it still lags something horribly due to the massive amounts of crew members.

I'm also bothered that if they walk towards my quarters, they just turn around and walk away once they reach my door.
if they're going to head in the direction of my quarters, they might as well as have an actual purpose for doing so.
That's only common sense, right? especially if they wanted to speak with me about personal matters, whatnot or something else that they would talk to the captain about. Hey, it could even be like a mini-mission of sorts... sort out the crew member's grievances, etc.... and would kinda go into your records to see how well you do as an captain. that sort of thing?
otherwise, they shouldn't be walking towards my quarters AT ALL.

I'm also kind of bothered that the lounge for the most part is practically empty. the crew members are basically just using it as an hallway, and only a few stand at the bar...which has no barkeeper or a cook.
what are all those seating and tables for then?? I doubt that I can invite that many friends to fill all the seats.
also, since there's no cook I'm also bugged by that unattended pot of boiling water on the stove in the cook's gallery. go and see, you'll see it too as well.
They should change some of the crew-members' behavior so that instead of wandering around aimless, half of them are sitting in the lounge chatting, eating and drinking. After all, not all of them can be on duty 24/7... .there would be shifts, for pete's sake! so they need some down time too. also assign two crew-members to be the barkeep and the cook.

Those issues aside, I'm actually very happy with the latest update. trophy displays for the win!
I love the ship interior, and I look toward to the day when we're able to customize how our quarters and stuff looks like in a system similar to the bridge customization system.

I really need to check out the trophy display, not sure how I missed that, but then again I wasn't looking for it. I will make sure I look into that tonight.

beside that the number of generic-npcs should be reduced
and that they should do an earlier turn near the captns quarters
(not opening the sliding door anymore)
i think the visual improvement of the npcs and our BOs ahould be next...
i cant await til they implement a default uniform for the crew...

but if you are interested in further, check the links in my signature
and tell me what you think about it :)

I don't think anyone has mentioned this:

I was in my turbolift and I decided to go back to sector space, and you still beam yourself, even though you're not leaving your ship.

Its a known thing, and Dan has stated that he wants to fix it as soon as they can, the problem is the way its coded into their 'transfer to new skin' code

Yes! That beaming out of your ship to enter sector space is not right. We are in our ship, so why are we beaming out to see the outside of the ship? lol

Well, this has been a known issue since beta. I thought it would have been taken care of by now.

Don't get me wrong, I know that they have priorities, and it doesn't affect gameplay.

To sit in a chair, jump into the chair in question. Go to your emotes, scroll down to your "sit" options, and select your desired emote.

    2. Having a place to hang you awards you get , and put items you find in the game. - After all you want to show off your things you gain to friends right?

The captain's quarters are being fixed to hang awards and feature trophies.

    3. Views out the window of places your in - If your at Earth Dock, we should see Earth dock, If your Around Vulcan, you should see Vulcan. Doesn't have to be real time, just the point of seeing it right now works for me.

If you're at the appropriate vantage point, I believe you can see Earth out of a window at ESD. Also, the windows during first contact missions or diplomacy missions show whatever ship is appropriate to your company.

    4. Mission within your ship - Good start with the Diplomatic one I did, but it needs to get expanded. Deeper missions on your ship, be it combat or non-combat, this is a MUST in a Star Trek game.

I'm not so sure about it being a "must," but I agree that missions within the ship would make things more interesting. Maybe if you mess up with a text selection and end up beaming the villain of a particular mission on board, you should go find them, get into a firefight, kill some people in a crossfire, and what not.

    5. Working sectors of the ship - Be it sickbay, Engineering test lab, or engineering. We should be able to do a few things in these locations. Example being making a weapon from what we found while on an away mission. Just food for thought.

Healing ourselves in sickbay would be nice. Crafting mundane objects in engineering I could condone.

    6. How about some interaction with the crew - We have a ship full of BOs and crew, but no one is talking. :o)

Ehh. Invite some real people to your ship.

Ok maybe I am spoiled by a different game, but why do we have to scroll down and find a sit command?

It should be simply like this.

    1. You walk up to any type chair.
    2. You click the chair.
    3. A sit command pops up.
    4. You then sit down in the chair.

What is SOOOOOooooooooo Flipping hard about adding that into the program?

The whole oh it's in the emotions pack, just open it and srcoll down is a joke. Just set it up so we can just sit down, without having to srcoll down, or type /sit. lol

I agree, but it still doesn't change the fact that we still can sit. sometimes people would just prefer it that the devs work on the more crucial things instead of the minor stuff like that.

Well how hard is it to set that up, sounds like about 1 hours of work to me, if even that. Anyway, I should have made myself clear on the seating thing. It's setup more user friendly in few other games I played, I was hoping it would be more user friendly here too.
