I know elite is supposed to be hard, but the battle I just had in one of the random encounters in B'Tran cluster tells me that someone made a huge mistake. I'm RA5, and all my BOs have X or IX gear, most in the "very rare" territory. I walked into a bunch of Nausicaans and had my TRIBBLE handed to me in, and I kid you not, two seconds. I reviewed the combat log and found a bunch of entries like this:
Your Bolt Setting deals 6 (58) Plasma Damage to Marine.
officer Barrier Mine III deals 69 Kinetic Damage to Marine with Chroniton Mine Barrier III Damage.
400 (349) shield damage was dealt to your Personal Shields.
Marine deals 653 (1148) Phaser Damage to you with Compression Bolt Setting.
Critical Injury received: Head Trauma
400 damage to my shields? When 400 is the most you can have? 653 follow up damage to me when all I've got is 700 and change??? I don't care how elite you are, no one is going to get through that mission. It took less than 8 seconds (I timed it twice) to take out my entire party, no matter how much I prepared, how big the shield charges I passed out...
This is supposed to be fun? Either I am missing out on some mysterious uber tactical maneuver or the game has been gimped.

QFE.
While it is possible using tactics and terrain to complete a ground mission on Elite, I find it a lot more successful, and fun, to have a team of fleetmates. While the BOff UI is improved with Season 2.0, on average a human player is still smarter.
I think it is a good development to have both solo and group content, I enjoy STO a lot more when I'm working with a team. Puts the "multiplayer" into MMO.
This has been reported widely in last few months.
Its a bug according to Cryptic.
They said that Season 2 Tech introduced the ability to fix these maps dynamicly so when you find one bug report it.
The Devs have been told about the overpowered mobs on Elite mode for ages now and claimed they were working on it. 2 Months later, we are still waiting.
It isnt just Elite. It happens on Advanced too. Depends on the Mobs.
The larger issue is also their horrible injury system. Because you get ganked you die and get injuries. Which makes you even more uneffective. Really the injury systems needs to be toned way way down.
And the insane injuries and death are related to the bug where all the mobs attack you .
Obviously not much has improved with issue too. Its too bad we cant buy time by the week instead of monthly.
moaning about it after 2 months... like they are slacking somehow... is just ignorant of the reality. Now if in 2 years the same thing is still going on, then you got a problem:)
You do not carry a few healing item with you?
that would be even worse because the game while just increase the level of npc...
Did one yesterday in B'Tran at Ra5 and i left because of that. It's rare that i give up but i did. It was a mob of 8 npc at least. 6 of those where at ensign level but each of those where dealing like 150 point of damage and that is without expose or anything.
When i looked at the damage i was doing to them even without any shield i was below 50 with a purple mark x weapon.
I tried to heal myself and use security team but even with that. Me and my crew where dead before able to kill one.
yup ! I can understand making the game a challange ... however IMHO there is not challange when being so saverly overwhelmed in a matter of a few seconds. There is no strategy envolved what so ever.
I have no problem with using the spare parts to repair our ships or (in this case) using the "assorted heals" that we are required to do. BUT when the mobs are overunning a position in a matter of 5 to 10 seconds regardless of what BO's I have (all of which are decked out in very good equipment: some in VERY rare) ... something is out of balance. If I didn't know better I'd say my away team is running into battle essentially without ANY shields or armor and shooting paper wadds at the mobs ! (at least it seems that way). This is also true for "dailies" ??
I also find it frustrating that the combat logs are frankly not that informative .. from time to time.
ALSO: what ever happened to the idea that some of this combat could be affected by terain.. or objects in the line of fire. Seems like most of these battles take place in the wide open space (on the ground) as a slug fest with little or no thought to the surroundings given. The mobs just run right up to you and "blast" or "hack" away. Most of the time I'd like to use some of the natural cover about ... take on less damage by using that "tactic" IF IT would ever work. NOPE . the mobs just run right up to ya! Heck I'd better off as a Feddie even if could just get my hands on an "EPIC" Klingon Bat'leth and just hack them to pieces and be done with it ! (skip all that stuff about covert ops .. or using cover as a part of your tactics)
i sometimes take TWO Sci BO's or TWO engineers (loaded for bear so to speak) .. BUT if your team is fried in 10 to 15 seconds ( and I mean the ENTIRE team) .. not too much you can do !
ummm there is no time to use them when you get these missions. Its nearly one shot kills. And then you get a critical injury so you are less able to deal the next time.
Anyway... to further add to the discussion at hand....
From my expierence it seems to be mobs that use Dispruptors. I never have issues if its Fed or Borg or Undine. With them its all about tactics. But if its some generic aliens with disrupters its like instant death.
I just started beaming out since it just isnt worth the aggrevation.
I just think its ridiculous we have to waste 6 inventory slots on injury TRIBBLE. For you and the ship. The least they could do is just make it one freaking type and just have one med thingy. Or at the stations just have one button to HEAL ALL instead of having to click grind through every injury.
My post was more about we say about the injury system being annoying and all.
i know to well about the mob being to powerful on some mission. If read my second post you will see...
My comment was related to this part of your post : "The larger issue is also their horrible injury system. Because you get ganked you die and get injuries. Which makes you even more uneffective. Really the injury systems needs to be toned way way down."
i also understand how annoying it is being blasted to piece by them and wasting space for healing item. I wish they fixed the bug with the ground mission and the bug with the healing system.
And waht is the point to use injury kits? Just to heal and to get wiped out again? It is a complete waste of time and money. I give Cryptic time till my subscription runs out to fix it, otherwise I quit playing and paying.
