Really people? A Patch that's the same size as the freeking install disc? If this is what is in store for me every time they make a major change, I won't be paying $15.00 a month to have to wait 8 HOURS for patches like this. This is totally unacceptable for someone who buys a game, then can't platy for a DAY because of a patch? Not to mention Comcast has a Bandwidth CAP, which I am now wasting 10GB of. Nope, this is not what I signed up for, so, after 30 days, It will probably bee Adios, Patchos...
This is really a crappy way to do this man, people should be able to play without the PATCH, I can't, so TRIBBLE this.
Took me just a bit over an hour to download at the server's maximum at the time, 700K/sec. That's about par for MMOs (Aion, I recall, had its last major update spread in chunks across three days to cut down on server load).
Then people who do not patch, cannot access the content. We would like to complete a bunch of those missions before getting access to new ones. If Microsoft can do it with Xbox Live game play, then these dopes should be able to do it. If you don't have NEW maps, you can't play, so, same should apply with this junk. No, this kind of delay is unacceptable; 8 hours to update, Bullexcrement.
I haven't verified it yet, but if this is like most MMOs and Tribble itself, you're not downloading the whole game, just pieces that are patched in. Is it large, yes, but it won't kill your cap completely.
LOL. If you want new content you need new patches. If you don't want new content, I understand watching grass grow can be incredibly mind numbing. Of course, waiting for new patches can be equally exciting to I supposed I'd rather stick with the patch and then have some pew pew waiting for me. To each his own.

Yeah it's a differential updating scheme, it just downloads what needs to be changed and alters the files to match up as opposed to downloading completely new files. The actual amount of bandwidth consumed for this update is around 1.8GB.
I read in op some were that this new patch for season 2 is only 2G as long as you have played recently 8 hrs for 2G seems a little unusual to me but Im still at work so I have not been on the game today
Sounds like some single player blues being wailed in here.
This is a MMORPG. Patching is part of the service. No patchie no new content, bug fixes, or even game time.
Is this your first real MMORPG?
If you are on that Comcast wireless deal with the cap and on a laptop you need to reconsider both of those decisions. Forget wireless, go fiber or copper hardline. If you are on a laptop, well, that was a bad choice considering the heat your CPU is throwing off that will probably reduce that laptop to being a paper weight in a year or 2.

And does MS run any MMOs with Xbox Live? I haven't heard of any. I'm sure if they did, they'd require consistent versions with each update to prevent client-server inconsistency crashes, but then if they did, you'd be paying a premium for each minor update. So there goes that analogy.

SO, it's approx. 1.2Gb? That's 242.7MB at 20% (very next value went to 21% to 262.4 before it went to 22%), Times 5 for 100%, so about 1.2GB. Taking way too long... I know how a patch works, I was originally going by the TORRENT you could download to update, was 8GB.
Also, if bandwidth is an issue, you can always stop downloading wait until you're on your next month of bandwidth allotment and then load up again to finish.

Right, so I have wait a whole month to play? My point exactly, this is TRIBBLE... People are paying for this, and this is the TRIBBLE to put up with.
Patch days on every MMO I've played(yep, most of em at some point) tend to have slow downloads, everyone who plays is hammering the systems. Can't be avoided.
But, wait a day, by tomorrow wait times will be smaller and you should patch more quickly.
Well i dont know what your patch was but on my end it was 2 gigs and it was done in 10 minutes. And im still playing. So sounds like its your end.Yes i also have bandwidth limits but i pay for extra if i go over.Although id rather have no bandwidth limit.:D

I ran the Patch today on TWC in about 10 minuets. Doesn't Comcast have similar service capability?

Apparently NOT... I started this patch over 30 minutes ago, and it's at 34%.
I got 12/2 service with Comcast, and using torrents, I can download MUCH faster. so, it's not the service. I am also on a fresh install of Win7 Home Premium 64bit. I am only getting 250+KB/Sec with this update, and as I said, I download "other" things MUCH faster.
I don't know in which third world country some people are living in... but for example in Germany i pay for 32Mbits +tel flat flat 35 Euros ~30$ and even my 3G Network goes up to 24Mbits
Bandwitch limits? didnt even know such contracts still existed except in some universities... so switch to 3G
Technology changes fast and Games have to keep up the pace... dont know what problems you have.
I couldnt accept a game that would be limited because of a few people that cant keep up with the standard
that some patch downloads can be slow...understandable... thousands of people are downloading at the same time... there are no miracles possible

The worst thing about that, is they JUST put the Bandwidth cap on people on Comcast, 250GB a month, about 4 or 5 months ago they initiated that. The SPEEDs are also tiered for how much you pay, and I got the NEXT to highest speed they have, without paying $10.00 more a month for 20/5 speed, which is STILL all on how fast you can get it from out there, that means nothing really. IF you can't get it at 20Gb/Sec, then it's kind of useless.
Obama plans on turning the USA into an 3rd world country, so...
40% done now, so how long has that been since my 20% post? Yeah....
Well I dont know what to tell you no one else seems to be have the same issue and if they are no one is saying anything so it looks to me like something is wrong on you end. All I can suggest is to try and restart you computer and start the patch over it might go faster.

Yeah, Comcast sucks, is what. I do not get what they claim, all the time... I am not going to start over, I will uninstall the game before I do that...

Then good riddance i say. Next time you start ranting somewhere, you might want to get informed beforehand. Your internet service or the fact that you don´t know how MMOs work is not Cryptics fault nor is it ours.
has anyone else had problems with lost connection when trying to download patch? I've been trying for 4 hours now. Got as far as 34%. Just keeps starting over. Everything was fine yesterday.
"You are giving us too much free content, my IP sucks (I used to have Comcast, and can verify), ergo it's all Cryptic's fault. I'm outta here...oh btw I have never played MMO's before, so don't know what patch days are like....Cryptic sucks!"
Seriously, stick with single player games, offline if possible.
I have Comcast too but i dont have the cap thing youre talking about I have no extra charge for it maybe because i have all 3 with them. my thinking with the restart is something happened when you got started and a restart might fix that problem then again it might not.

Yeah, I gotta say. Of all the reasons I expected to see in a IQUIT thread, the time downloading a patch isnt one of them.
Your downloading the patch, during prime time, on the opening day of a new issue (Season). Your gonna have a delay. Sorry, but it is what it is. I've been very critical of STO lately, but I'm sorry. I cant get behind this reason to leave.

TBH, Internet service providers with bandwith limits, and MMORPG's just dont mix.
