Retrofit ships are 15 dollars each. Is this what we can expect for the Excelisor?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
If you have not heard the news the Refits are on the C-store, but you can unlock the refits ships three ways. In the game with a token, In the game with emblems, or In the C-store for 15 dollars. So I was wondering, is that what we can expect for the Nebula, and the Excelsior? Are they going to be refits, and if so will the token cover the ship?

So the question is

How do you the player feel about the refits on the C-store?

Is 15 dollars a fair price for those ships?

Do you think they are worth it?

What about he excelsior, and the nebula should they be this price?

should you be able to get one of the ships with a token?

and How does this sit with you?

please leave your feedback, and comments.

Also Dstahl if you, or any of the mod are reading this I have one major question that NEEDS to be answered before it is to late. My question is.

Are you thinking about giving out the Excelsior, and the Nebula with a Refit token?

( I ask this because I fear that people will not take it well, if they spent their refit token, and then found out they could get the ship with that. )

EDIT Thanks for the update

The Excelsior and Nebula (as far as I know) are not slated to be exclusive to Level 51 which means that they will most likely not be purchasable with the Level 51 rank up token.

These ships may be available starting as early as T3... and then have a T5 Refit version as well.

If we do implement an alternative way to get them in game it will most likely be for some sort of Mark or Emblem and not with a rank up token.

That is the current plan...I'll update if it is decided otherwise.

I just want them to be interesting. Seeing as how Cryptic is giving alternatives regarding how one can obtain these ships, I feel better about the whole thing now.

I do suggest reading the FAQ first though.

Don't forget Zodi, that you can also buy these ships with emblems too if you already spent your token. So you have an in-game and out-of-game way to but additional retrofit ships.:D

Woah buddy :D.. I did read it. But I want to know about the Excelsior, and that covers the Refits. This token deal could go two ways. they do not give those ships with tokens, or they do, and not tell people, and we have the august forum fire.

Oh I understand that, and I'm fine with it. I want to see how other people feel about it. ( personally I like the Emblems )

I'm glad they added an in-game way to get the C-store ships. I hope its a foreshadowing of it becoming more widespread.

I know that, and you know that, but try telling that to half the community. ( just look at on the history. look at the pre-orders going to the C-store, and the Galaxy-x. )

    Ya it is fair...

Since you can get them for free by doing what you would be doing anyways, I have even less issues with this than i had with the GalaxyX.

If they do the same with the new ships that is also fine with me... But then again, if they did the same as they did with the GalX I would be fine too, because you dont need them to play.

TBH no matter what, I think anything will upset any half... To me it seems that no matter what cryptic does it will never be good enough.
No ranting intended, but that is just the expirience i've had so far.

Oh I am... and your post just hit a raw nerve after reading posts about how yet-again Cryptic is placing "content" on the C-Store... but to be honest, what I'm not feeling very "right" about, is DXP and Scan-5 and Aid The Plant missions. Again, nothing to do with you, and I should have read the whole OP first. :o

About the Buyers-Beware comment, hopefully with more communication from Cryptic, and perhaps some BIG LETTER warnings, people will be able to avoid mistakenly purchasing things they can get in-game without paying more than their monthly fees. :)

I would like to know why they decided to change the way aditional ships at a tier are gained, previously on all other rank ups you got the free token and then could get aditional ships via energy credits, now they make it so you either have to grind a very unreasonable 500 emblems or pay $15, also remember that you need those emblems to get the new equipment as well and its a lot more expensive than the previous tiers equipment ( 30 emblems for a single ship weapon if i'm remembering right ) , this change just feels to me like a new way to try and get people to spend cash on the C Store.

This doesn't bug me, really. You can get one inside of a day. You can get the others through a dedicated grind. Maybe the emblem cost is a bit high but, going with how MMOs work, you can expect that price to come down over time as more and better options emerge.

The $15 is strictly for the impatient... And there's nothing you'd NEED all three for.

The C-Store has its issues but as a tax for impatience, it doesn't bug me. Not that different from fantasy games where you can pay to unlock ALL basic hunter pets rather than track them down.

All you're paying for here is a convenience. That's right in line with what I see the C-Store as being good for.

I understand that. My is a feedback finding thread. personally I don't care about the refits being on there. I think it is a good idea to give us options, but I worry about them not telling us everything when it comes to the excelsior, and nebula.

They need to give out more information on the tokens. If the Excelsior, and Nebula come out, and you are able to get them with the tokens then some people are going to be mad because they already spent their token. sure you can get them in the game, but ( and I could be wrong, this is just what I heard in a thread in the tribble section ) If I understood right the amount of time it takes to grind 500 emblems around 53 days. As for the mad people as always they will blame cryptic.

It is better if Cryptic comes out with it instead of taking the risk of making any players mad, and losing them.

Personally, I'd like to see the Nebula and the Excelsior use a different currency so you can grind them while grinding your spare refits.

The nice thing about the paid unlock is that it unlocks it for all characters on an account.

Well, you do know what they say... Time == Money. In essence, if you truly want to experience all three ships without paying anything over your monthly fees, you can, so I can't really blame Cryptic for doing this the way they did.

They gave us solid T5 starships with two variants per each "role", and now we're getting vanity starships that have slightly different gameplay mechanics but are not overpowered in comparison to the normal T5 ships, and we still have the option of obtaining all ships for all Vice Admirals as long as we're willing to put either our Time, or our Money where our imagination requires us to be. It's a win-win as far as I can see. :)

why not add those "refit" ships already in the cstore to those available with a token/emblem? after all, the galaxyX is a refit, not that I really want that one, as is the mirror universe Imperial class a refit.

Not a single ship is worth 1200 points at all, they're really not that great... Clear money grab if honest.

I have to disagree with the money grab part. You can get it in the game. I do think it is a little steep, and they priced it to high.

$15 still seems pretty steep for ship unlocks. Hell, I thought the TOS Connie was silly at $10. But that's my opinion.

If people are willing to pay $25 for the Galaxy X (which they clearly were) then we have no one to blame but ourselves for high prices on canon ship costumes.
