ground combat and exploration

these are among two of the items listed to be worked on in the next 6 months/

and personally for me my two most hated things in the game. since 'exploration' is currently just a terrible mission generator. Hope they come up with true exploration but i have doubts with the limitation of the engine, being that it wasn't designed as a persistent space type engine from the ground up like eve online was, but rather a third person on the ground move around type thing.

ground combat.... i hope when he says improve it, he means make it compelling to play, because nothing is compelling to play about ground combat.

the idea of standing up and trading punches in the open with different mobs of baddies throughout a mission is boring to say the least. Most sto players are star trek fans and most of us came up on things like starfleet command, bridge commander, elite force. and im sure that most of us would prefer an elite force style combat in the game, where there is manual aim, the ability to miss your enemy, and take cover etc...

Yeah, I think from a mechanics point of view, Ground combat is the greatest failing of this game. I know there are those who enjoy it; but I feel it's very dull and clunky; it's not smooth or fluid like space combat. I suppose considering how extremely well done space combat is laid out, it really makes ground combat stand out like a sore thumb. Ground combat needs to be as complex and diverse as space combat... as engaging and interesting. I don't think that can be done without a drastic, or complete, overhaul of the entire ground combat system. I wonder if Cryptic is willing to make that leap; I hope so.

Exploration missions are a very good idea but are rather poorly implemented. I look forward to whatever changes are coming down the pipe for this; Exploration being engaging is another critical aspect of STO that can use a good amount of polishing and renovation. Right now, once the fresh feeling has worn off after first playing the game and getting your feet wet with Exploration missions... it turns into a rather dull grind for tokens and extremely predictable at that; there's really no mystery or thrill.
