( thats the nature of any game with PvP in it, its human nature to try and get the other players riled up and off balance, its the most effective weapon in warfare, it's also fun to see people QQ )....going into a vein popping nerd-rage over some other players name.... now that's good fun.

I commiserate and wonder what level of filtering might exist. However, in the realms of MMO it is not the place of any one person to impose their idea of what is 'right' when it comes to naming. However, they do have to conform to the ESRB rating so it can't be anything that would offend a teenager+

And no I dont want to see the Enterprise, Voyager, Defiant, and the Stargazer flying pass me and I dont want to see the USS Sperm flying towards a planet (I think theres a symbolism in there). There are 2 points to that
1 the game is based in the USA so it has to follow US laws thats the way it was set up for the internet as far as I understand it.
And 2 most other Country are not as anal as the USA at least from what I have seen.

While I hate to see many of the ship names I have to agree that it is peoples rights to use them. No where are we promised the right not to be offended and in fact should expect it in a online game and real life. I don't think any thing should be censored except for degrading names of races or sexes but again I will live if they don't. Maybe the best compromise to role players and others would be only to allow the names of real life warships ( from any country) to be used for the feds but never mind that wouldn't work since there is no way to do that with the Klingons:p
when you see people with ship names like But kisser or Sperm you know that that person isn't really into the game he or she is just goofing off and thats not a person I want in my party and I just ignore them. I try not to use star trek canon names but I found that it is almost imposable not it seems every good name you can think of was already used in star trek some were so I now try to use less common names like Crazy Horse, the Rising Star or the Berkshire I know STO does give you a random name for your ship but it seems more personal to name it myself.
I agree that some filter should be put in place but I was very dispappointed when I discovered I couldn't name my ship the U.S.S. Titan because of the first three letters in the word.

Anyway, if you see a name that you feel is inappropriate, just file a Behavior ticket under the GM Help menu and one of the GMs will review it (and can force a name change if needed).
