Stupid Gal X Tactics

Has anyone else seen some Gal X captains on their sides in PvP cloak and full impulse off to the side?

What's the deal? Do they think that by not participating in the game that even though their team lost they didn't because they never fought? Are they trying some overly complex flanking maneuver? Are they trying to be like Rieker and decloak at the last moment and save a team mate from doom?

What the heck goes though your average federation captain's mind in PvP? Really?

Sounds to me like a new tactic for leeching marks.

Instead of flying kamikaze into a ball, now they can just cloak and run. Seems kind of pointless to pay $20 for a ship and not play with it though.

I was in a Cracked Planet PvP with someone who was flying a Galaxy-X. The dimwit waited until I died before he decided to join the fight. It was four feds vs 6 klingons and he was the only coward on our team.

He didn't know how to fly it, so i'm guessing he was new to cruisers.

I've been in a few more PvP maps with people who actually know how to fight with this ship. I haven't tried her yet because i currently can't afford it.

It can be a pretty good ship if the captain knows what they are doing, but so many sacrifice so much more of their potential just to try pull off a Klink-like Alpha. I like the screen shot of another Fed where a lone Science ship is sitting at the spawn point with 3 Galaxy-X's hovering in front of it. I think the pic or caption was titled something along the lines of "I'm Screwed". I like when other players continually target the cloaked Galaxy-X's which makes it pretty easy to find them and completely ruin the alpha.

As for cloaking and running away though, there is almost nothing wrong with that as long as you are planning on getting back into it as soon as you regroup and whatnot. Unfortunately, if you are using cloak just to grief then yeah, that's pretty lame.

Feds with cloak... the main issue is the learning curve.

The cloak is not the I win button most Gal x Players think it is.

The problem with giving players a game mechanic at the end of the game, is the same issue most of them then have when they run their first PvP match at RA.

Most of the Gal X pilots have NO clue how to use a cloak.

In areanas I have seen Gal X ships whip past me at full impulse.... I sometimes ignore them, sometimes I hit them with a grav well or CPB. I have also unladed a HY into them while they think their cloaked.

In C&H maps I have litterly sat at a point capping it with the Gal X sitting beside me the whole time... again thinking I can't see him. I ussual wait for the point to turn before I blast em.

Truely the Gal X isn't that bad a ship if its use properly... just so many people using it have no idea how to use a cloak.

I hope the defiant gets used a lot better. :)

The Gal-X gets a bad reputation owing mostly to people who can't fly the thing correctly. Used correctly, with decent knowledge on how to arm it (not with cannons!) and use a cloak, it can be potentially the most threatening thing in an PvP arena.

In one PVP match I was in (cracked planet), someone on my team started moaning about how I was going to hold the team back and constantly explode. The battle started, I decloaked and got a kill almost immediatly (took an escort by surprise). Stupidly I didn't cloak once after that (having to heal my teammates), but by the end of the battle we won, I got the most kills+damage and didn't die once (trust me, not through the lack of trying on their part). It's even more hilarious, when no one even bothered to heal me.

Used incorrectly, the things a laughing stock.

Like all ships, the GX has the potential to have a terrible pilot.

I know some very good GX pilots out there - the kind that requires all your attention when ever you spot them on the map.

Gal-X captains should go through Klingon bootcamp on how to use a cloaking device :D

    _What.

what is there to learn. Its not like the x will ever be a klingon battlecruiser.

No, but it might teach them to use the cloak in a more thoughtful manner then:-

Gal-X pilot: "Oh look a ship! I'll full impulse my way to them, decloak right infront of them and fire lance and cannons"
*lance proceeds to do only 600 damage in total because the guys shields are still up, the proceeding power drain decreases the effectiveness of the cannons.
Assault cruiser pilot: "Man I'm down to 90% health, what am I going to do?"
*AC moves slightly to the left of the Gal-x, outside it's weapon arc, heals and opens fire*
Gal-X pilot: "OMGZ! I blew up, what happened? Dis Gal-X is c**p!"

Cloak may offer a 15% bonus to damage, but sadly it doesn't offer a 15% bonus to player IQ.

Aux power is tied to cloak... most Gal X players don't seem to understand that. Don't get me wrong most of the Gal x Players left do know generaly what they are doing. :)
