I can see Season 2 turning things around, and here's why.

So, I'm a noted STO critic/anger monger/just generally Andorianish kinda poster here. As I've repeatedly mentioned in previous horrible posts, the truth is Cryptic has two of my most beloved licenses. They have succeeded gloriously in bringing the visual feel of Champions and Star Trek and should be awarded time over again for that accomplishment. In my book, the art team is legendary in the MMO business at this point. They have however suffered from a lack of competent marketing, game system design, and content creation that has brought both of these titles almost to their knees.

I do believe however, that Season 2 does a nice at least 90 degree turn in the right direction. Here's why, and I hope that those who think similarly post here:

- The recognition that Star Trek is MORE than just combat/war is now in place. The diplomatic system (while definitely not my choice; I'd much rather have a huge exploration rank/reward system) is a great step in that direction. Now, you can theoretically play an entire part of the game without blowing stuff up. Something 80% of all Star Trek episodes did (random baseless statistic, but you get the point, they didn't do it alot).
- Environment is becoming more important than ever, just as the starbase comes alive nifty ships floating by, ship interiors are in place, saucer sep, etc. It's beginning to feel alot more like Star Trek.
- Fluidic space is just awesome. Pure and simple.
- Mini-game: ya ya, so it's distracting us away from the fact that they haven't generated new content. But again, it's very Star Trek and it's a fun addition.
- Weekly Episodes: this one scares the heck out of me and excites me as well. MxO did this, and it was alot of fun for a time but somehow it just killed the game. Cryptic has a big chance to do what Turbine did with Angmar: create NEW content that has never been seen before in the Star Trek universe. They are obviously terrified of this, and have avoided it at every place. They've recycled so much old wacky stuff (Bill Riker... come on) they just have to do new stuff. CRYPTIC: GO TO THE HUGE STAR TREK CONVENTION IN VEGAS, TALK TO OUT OF WORK ACTORS AND EPISODE WRITERS. GET THEM ONBOARD. CRYPTIC *CANNOT DO THIS ALONE*. Here's the link if you need it: http://www.creationent.com/cal/stlv.htm

If you trash up this thread, well, whatever. I don't blame you if you are still angry that there isn't a huge game system redesign, exploration isn't central, and there isn't an absolute Ferengi shipload packed full of content. However, we've been bashing these guys for six months now and just take a step back that maybe this is a good turn.

Well, i dont post on here often as you can probably see.

however i believe your post is correct as per the usual "good guy" syndrome within starfleet, fighting was a last resort...not a way of life...leave that to the klingons!

So i have to admit it is nice seeing more exporation content etc, but i have to admit that with there being alot of Hardcore startrek fans out there that cryptic are stepping on very thin ice creating new content and trying not to upset the players. so yea getting in with the writers would give them alot of top cover and overall make the game a better experiance!

    I like!

True that for Federation the game is going to get better, for Klingons its SSDD. Change the name already to Federation Online and cut away the Klingons completely instead of halfheartedly put crumbs to them.

Signed, what I saw on tribble with my Klingon was disappointing.
The game got better for Feds.

have to say I've tried klingons since they were released in beta and NEVER got on with them.. never.

season 2 on tribble actually gives you a way to level up a klingon without PvP or endless ship combat in DSE's.. ok sure its like grinding endless cluster explorations but its a step..

Tribble saw my first klingon side toon to make it past Lt8 this past weekend. the mission arc with the house of Martok was pretty damn cool too, cept for the bug in it.. so they're beginning to put in content.

some of you have to understand that actual canon sources of klingon story and culture were limited to a handful of episodes splattered across 5 series of federation centered story, its going to be harder to flesh them out.

But they're getting there.. maybe a little slower than expected but you can see there's life in it yet.

Keep in mind, that Commander of yours hasn't seen all the content yet.

I still dont see why they dont put an end to the the klingon/federation war and allow the two factions to work together towards a common enemy.

I think the introduction of the Romulans in a future season would make for a perfect excuse for this to happen.
Split the klingons by house and have one ally with feds and the other romulans.
That way klingons get to experience more content without having a lack of pvp oppurtunity.

It would also make for a convenient explanation for why fed ships have cloaks. It doesnt make sense now but it would if we were allied with a faction who already has them.

Season 2 is an improvement, there is no argument there. However, I wouldnt quite say it "turns things around". More like, every season is a slight turn, and hopefully by the end of the year things will have "turned around".

I'm going to say next summer is when we might see a turn around, about season four.

I'm leaning towards this as well.

there's just too many wounds to heal for it to happen sooner.

Wow....Lt. 8 huh.....impressive. Except that you come out of the Klink version of the tutorial at Lt.5.....so you moved up 3 spots. You have no idea the grind your about to begin to reach the end.

I played the new content thats on tribble for the Klinks, and while I really liked the story lines and the missions were very good, there is way too few of them. Other than the slim pickings you have mission wise Klink side, you now have to gind endless borked Explore missions that are usually bugged, and good luck finding some random disabled shuttle to kill in a rock strewn debris field with no working scanner and the icon wont pop till your within .5K of it.....

Good luck with the PvP ques at anything other than BG-G level. Also remember you get less XP across the board than Fed side.

Fed side you can take your newly minted Ensign, fresh out of the tutorial all the way to RA without ever setting foot in a Cluster/Nebula/Expanse Explore mission, Never touch the DSE (if you can avoid them), never doing a fleet action, and never even open the PvP Que interface. You can just do given missions/mission arc and patrols and earn enough XP and Reward Loot to outfit yourself and ship to take you to the end game. I know this, I just did it last week on a Paklid Tac Officer.

Try doing that on Klink side and get back to me..............you will not enjoy yourself.

MxO did LIVE events for a while, and while they were cool and thrilling for those who happened to be in-game when they went down, they also alienated a significant portion of the audience who for real life reasons could not be there. These events once done, were done and over, so if you missed it, all you could do is maybe read about it or watch someone's uploaded YouTube footage set to some random death metal track that makes the average viewer want to turn it off after about five seconds...

But as I understand it, STO's weekly episodic content will remain available to all after it has been deployed... So what we will have is a dedicated storyline which will be expanded upon with a new mission each week. And the fact that our level will not be a factor in our ability to experience this content means that even a newcomer to the game can jump right into the series...

And even if they have to delay launch of a new episode by a week or two for technical reasons or whatever, The actual TV seris often had a few weeks between waves of episodes...

The important thing is that the series needs to be interesting. There needs to be the feel of ever-evolving content. Potentially even having far-reaching effects on other regions of space.

And what I am truly hoping for is that the weekly mission content is developed using prototype technology for the User Generated Content they'd like us to be able to one day produce.

Ideally, props, sets and NPCs would be C-Store purchases for those who want to tell the widest range of stories. These things would release each week with new official episodes. Any of these things that might have been introduced in the previous week's episode would become available for use. This way the official seris would always have the newest things. And the C-store stuff need not be sold in pieces. Just Buy the "[EpisodeName]" content pack.

Anyway... I'm looking forward to what weekly episodic missions have to offer...
