Anything involving improving the game would be cool. Think they can improve basic mechanics, or are we kinda stuck with that?
Well somewhere in there you are going to hit a limitation wall imposed by the engine you are using, you can only fine tune it so far before you end up just ripping it out and replacing it with something else. Otherwise there are any number of updates and changes that can come down the pike. I assume mission diversity is one of the main things that will be showing up sooner rather than later. And probably more of the so called agnostic missions that either of the Empires can participate in.
[After killing the rest of the crew] Look, Dave, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill and think things over. I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission. And I want to help you.

There's only so much one can do with a T1 light cruiser. Limited BO slots, limited weapon slots, an eggshell of a hull, and shields like tissue paper. It will get you through the tutorial, sure, but that's mostly because the Borg spheres and cubes there are made of chicken wire and dried up cheese slices.
It's not doom & gloom. Dan Stahl said it was possibility that a F2P hybrid model would work well for STO.
After all, with subscriptions dwindling it might be the only way to save STO, outside of hiring a much large/more experience team of developers to go full throttle on STO.

Self-destruct is the shiney candly like button on that thar console....
As for numbers now, months after the 100k subscriber mark, it's obviously down. We don't know how far, but you're free to draw your own conclusions by looking at server and forum activity. It's significantly lower, but none of us know the real numbers. On top of that, you'd need to shave off those who have lifetime subs from all numbers, since they're here regardless of whether they want or don't want the sub anymore.

In other words It is all random guessing by people who hate the game and cant believe any thing that they hate could possibly survive. There is no evidence. In fact a few of the people have been predicting since live it would be dead in two months:p Some people just love their doom posts.;)

OF course, forums are nothing it not used for doom.....doom.....DOOM!
This is just my opinion mind you. I do not speak for anyone but myself.
I am of the opinion that Cryptic concentrated on the wrong thing, compounding the launch problem. Therefore there was no way to maintain good solid subscription numbers.
You have to have people coming in to replace those that leave. If people leave despite the end game you are making, you need to have an early game that captivates.
If any part of the game can be called the worst part it is most likely the experience from Ensign to LtCmdr. The worst missions, the most bugs, the smallest amount of polish. Playing the game Ensign to LtCmdr gives the player the impression that this game is exactly what the critics have said.....unfinished, unpolished and blah.
They should have revamped the first 10 hours of the game. SInce they did not do that, they have made a bad situation worse.
If they have any hope of salvaging this debacle they need to concentrate on the beginner experience.
Does anyone have any real contemporary evidence of dwindling subscription numbers?
There was the talk of dropped subscribers a few months ago, but I haven't seen any official numbers in the last few weeks.
Yeah, go fly around in Klingon or Federation space. Using the DSEs as an example, months ago there were 20+ filled instances of a DSE at anytime. Now, it amazes me if there are more than 1 filled and more than 4 showing at all.

Here you go again.
You're, again, directly attempting to mislead people. I would have thought the smackdown you received last time you tried to pull this would have been enough. Sigh. Here, again, are the facts...
The one million figure referred to the number of accounts on "official websites" not pre-orders and subscribers to the game.
Further, your paraphrasing of Jack Emmert's quote regarding subscriptions is wrong. Emmert said that there were "well over" 100,000 subscribers to the game. Not "around" 100,000 as you claim.

Ah, thanks, I did not know that. That helps clarify it, as I was going off of their original statement. So it looks like I was wrong there. And no, no one gave me a "smackdown" on that in the past. You're probably confusing me with someone else unless you posted a reply to me in that past of which I never read.

If you had 101,369 subscribers for a service with your company, you would say "over 100k subscribers". The term "well over" is meaningless, vague marketing-speak, just like Cryptic's use of the term "exclusive".
If you have 153,369 subscribers for a service with your company, you would say "over 150k subscribers"?
If you had 11X,TRIBBLE to 14X,TRIBBLE it's sort of debatable if you'd round off or not. In the MMO business, you want to boast about high numbers more than anything (higher numbers announced = more potential investment = more potential customers). So it's quite safe to say the numbers are around 100k even if Jack said "well over" 100k. "Well over" 100k could be 101k. It's a vague reference.
That only says as a whole. It is well known that the launch of STO brought in a good deal of profit for Cryptic to help Atari pay off some of their debt (they're still in the hole at the moment). The article says nothing about continued success from a quick glance.
So, as I asked last time when you posted these claims, got any facts to back you up?
Look around and you tell me yourself if the STO subscriber base is rising, falling, or staying level. You don't need numbers to notice activity levels with your own senses. There are no numbers to back any claims from either camp aside from what Cryptic said. I've already stated that. And you've proved that Cryptic's original statement was misleading, of which they corrected later.

I see it like this.
work hard for the next year to year and a half.
Add to C-store.
Free to play hybrid subscription model at the end of the next two years. ( they need to flesh out the game more before free to play )
that is what I see.

The only real "evidence" we have is Cryptic stating a million copies of STO sold at launch, then a mention of it in March 2010 at around 100k subscribers. Even if every single person bought two copies of the pre-order, that's a 500% drop.
