Someone mentioned in another thread that for the nuetral zone, we could have one, massive area of system space where we could engage is some patrolling Open PvP. I thought this was rather nifty, so I thought maybe I'd expand on the idea. No, I'm not a hardcore PvP'er.
How I imagine it working is that we players would go into the sector block that is currently for PvP and hit and instead of entering the current sector block, we would enter a massive system zone (like sol, or kronos) that encompasses K7, Drozona Station, and everything else. The planets/systems that are in the sector that are the gateways to warzones and the like would be accesible from the system. Just fly up to it and drop to the planet.
I think it should be large enough that it takes 10-15 minutes to cross from end to end on full impulse. Maybe even longer. I know it may sound like much, but I think theres not much reason to be traversing the whole thing, combat should stay somewhere in the middle I would think.
Features could include:
- The ability for the kligons to take out K7 for a few hours. The Klingons could be given a similar station for the Federation to destroy.
- The planetary systems could be capturable similar to the current capture and hold maps.
- The whole system could be perpetual, and it could work similar to how WoW works its no loading screen approach.
- Another idea is to have one perpetual zone per rank. (I don;t like it as much though)
- It could even have a bonus associated with it for the faction. Possibly something having to do with morale.
I think this approach (though I'm not sure of its feasability) could solve some of the problems PvP'ers see in the game when it comes to results from their work. The people that don't like to PvP don't even have to enter the area, and if they do, it would be a large enough area that they could possibly hide. K7 could be positioned relatively close to the zone border so new players doing the K7 mission don't get ganked.
I'd like to keep working on this idea, but I kinda want to see peoples reactions before I elaborate any further. I'd also like to add other ideas to it.
I think that this would very much add that feeling of War that many feel is missing in the game currently.
i like the idea but why restrict it to players. npc fleets could be doing alot more than floating around pointlessly existing for grind bots , AI tech surely is there so that npc will get objectives to capture and hold but not to powerfull that players dont tip the balance in there sides favour

That too. I figure there could be an NPC fleet equal to the max number of players per faction. NPC ships tend to not be as powerful as player ships. there'd also be so many places for that fleet to be, the weaker side could just avoid them.
There could be patrols of 2-3 ships that attack if your within 15KM of them and that chase you if you run. They could patrol the lanes between the systems. K7 would need fortifications or weapons added.
I'm not sure how to address player deaths.... I think having players respawn at the nearest friendly system would work. Otherwise you'd have to fly a long time to rejoin the fight.
The ideas in general have been posted before, but with 1000 or so postings about PVP issues, the ones relating to this might be hard to pick out.
O, i didn't know that. It seems most seem along the lines of PotBS when I read them. Or Eve even. I figure having a large persistant system space (not sector space) that acts as a very large capture and hold area would do wonders. Especially since there could be planet capturing that goes on and such. I don't know how many players they can max out on a shard, but If they could make it run with a few hundred of us, it would be most awesome.
If they add the need to capture a system in order to fight on a planet and capture it, that would create a need for ground combat specialists. Currently theres no real reason to be ground spec'd

Theres so much that could be done.
