Ships with the Same Name?

Hi guys I'm planning on coming back after a bit of a break and re-rolling. I've a quick question though, am I able to have ships with the same name (I know the answer is no, but I want to know if adding the -A or -B is enough to distinguish it as a different name for the game).

I want to progress my ships as such:

USS Stargazer NCC-92893 (Constitution Class)
USS Stargazer NCC-92893-A (Constitution Class Refit)
USS Stargazer NCC-92893-D (Galaxy Class)
USS Stargazer NCC-92893-E (Sovereign Class)

So, can I do this, or will I have to pay extra to rename all my obsolete ships something different? If that's the case, how do others get around it - I'm thinking adding (retired) or perhaps the "-A" to the name itself?

You still have to add the -(Letter) after the name itself last I checked.
