Minigames?

Every time I heard people say they wanted minigames I was unsure. When I heard STO was getting some I was uneasy.

Minigames in my mind are little games that you play a few times and then get sick of. There usually has to be a ton of them to keep them fresh like in a Mario Party game. Those were my thoughts anyways.

So I play the minigames on the Tribble... they're decent. However... My original thoughts are just confirmed.

Who in their right mind can play these minigames literally THOUSANDS of times? There's 2 of 'em right now. Can you honestly say those will be fun for more than a few minutes? Dabo and the scanning minigames are okay but seriously, they're not even up to part with the worst Mario Party minigames.

I have no idea why so many people wanted minigames. They're not suited for an MMO. They're suited for Party games you play once in a while but not too often because you'll just get sick of them.

Minigames get old... FAST. Minigames are mini and by definition have no depth or anything big enough to play them THIS often. It's not like WarioWare because, well, they're just not that fun. They're "meh" on the scale of minigame goodness and even if they were the best minigames WHO can play those minigames potentially HOURS each day for MONTHS?

Minigames of this sort really shouldn't be in an MMO. It makes no sense unless you're a minigame fanatic. Or at least they shouldn't be in this commonly where every time I scan a thing I have to play it (or skip it but then I get less and get punished for not wanting to play a minigame for the 1000th time).

Minigames offer literally minutes of enjoyment. If you're lucky and get a GOOD minigame you might get hours. However I've not seen a truly great minigame yet.

Examples of awesome minigames:
Voltorb Flip in Pokemon Soul Silver and Heart Gold. A game that takes LOGIC, SIMPLE MATH, ETC.
Brain Age stuff.
WarioWare stuff.
Mario Party stuff.
etc etc etc

All in LIMITED doses.

Bleh...

I tossed the Dabo wheel a few times on Tribble.

I'll do it a couple times every time I'm in the area.... I wont grind it for anything..... :)

I dont mind minigames per-say...more stuff equals more to do in my eyes...and that is always good.... add anything..I dont care...lots of different things to do in an MMO is my dream of a good one.

But I'd rather have ' meat and potatoes' content to keep me intrigued with a 'story arc' or 'epic questline'.

I want my character to have life, and to interact with npc's that feel alive..... not the same npc model every mission..... (having no voiceovers really make the game sterile IMO too).

I want to feel like my Captain is a hero. I want my Captain to feel fear..... I want him to be in harms way if I so choose ... I want to be able to go wherever I want, and choose the way I level..... I want at least a good sized open-area zone.

Minigames are low on the priority list in my eyes.....but they're kinda cool regardless.

I won't deny that they are a bonus. However they're so small. I want more meat and potatoes!

Plus when you have to play Dabo for HOURS just to get a holoemitter that works for just 15 minutes (the good expensive ones) Dabo gets kind of dull. And by dull I mean "kill yourself to stop the pain" dull. Yet, I love holoemitters... so my highly preferred content is covered by hours of Dabo. XP

i like the scanning mini game, its quick with a purpose to it and i believe you have the option to just skip it.

i like dabo but its a bit simple. i would like that to have a more complex set of rules in how much you can bet and the rewards, but i probably wont play that too much. more rewards like the holo emitters would give me an incentive to play it

    Isn't everyone waiting for poker?
I know that the mini games have potential to add to the roleplayer experience, and even though I don't RP that much... I can see the potential fun side.... and I love the way Dabo is making Quarks a busy and lively place.

All we need now is chairs we can sit on please!
