I`ve now lost count the amount of times I`ve been booted off or got the message "server not reponding", its gotten a lot worse since friday, common cryptic, I pay a sub fee to play the game and not to be reminded that your servers are incompetent. Look at eve online, they have those IBM blade thingys that can handle over 1300 players in a single system at any time without lag! And with jumpgate evolution and star wars coming, cryptic need to shape up. I don`t want to leave this game because of the potential it has, but constant server issues are not what makes a good MMO.
I've experienced some minor lag and rubberbanding, but I haven't gotten knocked off or seen the 'server not responding' for a while now.
Just because you're experiencing these problems does not mean that it's Cryptic's servers. Your problem could be between your computer and their servers. I had a similar thing happen about two years ago with Eve, and it was a server farm about halfway between my computer and their servers that was causing me to lose packets and get dropped.
I'm not trying to defend Cryptic or anything, but sometimes it's something in-between here and there that is causing the problem.
Hello OP. I'm going to be honest with you. I do not get that problem. that problem sounds like a net problem between your router and the server. ( meaning the path that it takes to get from the router, and the server is having problems. that happens more then you think. you have to remember that there are many more parts in between your house to the servers, and just because you are having problems does not mean it is always cryptic fault. )
So here is what I'm going to have you do.
First Try resetting your modem, and router. then play the game. if you are still getting the problem then you need to move on to the next step.
you need to run a trace route.
Click the Start Button
then go to run
in the box type CMD
this will bring up the command prompt
what you need to do next is type
that will trace your route to the cryptic launcher / patcher server. you will see a list of all of the hops along the way. run this test about 4 to 5 times, and record the results. when you look at each test look for hops between routers that are taking a long time. ( Or if it fails before getting to 208.95.185.25 ) if you get it more then once that that router is most likely the problem router. at that point you need to contact your ISP, and ask them for help. make sure you tell them that "the route between your public IP address, and 208.95.185.25 is having problems. " they should be able to help you more, but you mite need to be persistent.
I have actually noted that there seems to be a lot more trouble connecting to and staying connected to STO than most other MMORPGs. I know its not Cryptic side. More often than not it is a PFBKAC issue or it is a weak link in the connection rout from the user to the servers.
OP, your anger is truly misplaced. It is not a Cryptic issue, it is an internet issue.

I hope this helps.
