Seriously, hire the Sims 3 guys to do motion/movement/interaction for characters...

There is SO much potential being wasted - we have NPC's in the new interiors that use the food replicator and they are "punching" the air and not the pad, we have seats we can't even sit in without an emote... the newest travesty is the poker table, with seats so close that you can't even sit with an emote. If you had a a tight knit motion crew working on stuff like that not only could you make sitting down look hot, but you could even have the character grab the chair, pull it back and sit down.

The Recreation Center needs to be filled with crew that actually gets food, SITS DOWN at all the empty tables and eats and chats, etc... it is sooooo lonely with all those empty chairs and tables.

I'm not saying creating NPC's is easy I don't know the first thing about it but if they can do all that in the Sims then you guys sure as heck can do it here! Give these NPC's more life and have them DO stuff and interact better with the environment.

btw the ramp up to the 'poker room' looks terrible... put in steps or something, seriously.

Agree. My issue is no matter were i stand those m********** npc's keep pushing me around.
Why are there nps walking around on the star bases ?????? remove all of them and have more players in them instead. 200 players in ever instance on Sol and no npc caracters walking around. And make sol alot bigger ffs

The difference is that in The Sims, that's what the whole game's engine is based off of. There are hooks for all sorts of interact-able items that you, as the user, can use, or the AI can use to do those actions.

For STO, it's such a tiny part of the game it's not very difficult to see why they're not going to effectively build an entirely separate engine just for non-gameplay stuff like this.

That said, it WOULD be pretty cool, and in an ideal world, where time and money allowed it, it should very definitely be in the game - but reality as it is, I think just a slightly smarter AI in general is all we're going to be able to hope for.

It would be nice, however, if a lot more of the ship interiors was interact-able at all, but that's a discussion for another topic.
