Possible solution to the "kill everything" problem.

I suggest that, for PvE, there be a "shoot to disable" mode that would take NPC ships out of the game, but not destroy them. Maybe make them unattackable and change the name to "Disabled Bird of Prey" or whatever, and have it count toward mission objectives. It could be slightly less effective (maybe take a bit longer to disable than to destroy, since you'd have to be precise) but it could provide more XP (since it would be more challenging.) It would also solve the problem of the Federation destroying every ship in sight. It could probably be disabled for Borg and Undine ships though.

This could even be a new mission dynamic - enter a system, disable X amount of ships, board them, etc.

With this, you could basically play through the whole game without killing a single non-Borg/Undine ship. In fact, if you use stun weapons on the ground, you could play a totally non-lethal Federation character if you wanted.

Some popular suggestions. I think if people keep pushing for this they might try to accomodate.

Or better why not disable ships and send boarding parties to capture the ship. Then you could use the ship and customize it yourself. Of course that would probably be too fun and awesome for this community.

I totally support the original poster's idea, for what it's worth.

I already have one of my characters equipped with a stun pistol, along with his entire away team, just for that extra bit of immersion so I can pretend I'm just stunning most everyone I meet (I use Lunges on my security officers to do the exploits, weird huh?)

    Amen.

I've been asking for disable missions instead of destry everything missions for a while. I think this could work for some ground missions too.

Obviously not against Klingons cuz its a war, but I don't like the idea of a mission into Romulan space where I'm the one breaking their laws and yet I destroy them....

The solution to killing everything is to make sure you get everything so there's nothing left to kill.

I think it should be turned off for klingons (or federation as a klingon), we are at war after all.

Oh yes. If there has to be a Carebear stare in STO keep it off the Klingon side.

Excellent post! I too have been wanting this from the get go. I still scratch my head why they didn't put this in in the first place. Surely they watched a few episodes of Star Trek and saw most of the time, the Captains disabled Vs destroy. I know we are war yada yada yada, but it is still the Prime Directive to not interfere or non-violent methods are the better way. Three thumbs up for this post!

This we are at fricking war leaving ships intact is bad idea for than that ship can again be used against you.

I know we feds are supposed to be nice and all, but to quote and admiral: "Inter arma enim silent leges" To which the good doctor bashir replied: "In times of war the law falls silent, Cisco"

Indeed. I took enjoyment out of vaporizing the civilians who attacked me at that bar in one of the early Federation missions. They started that fight, against armed Starfleet officers. They better be prepared for the consequences.

Its war, they had it coming at the bar.... if I could, I would be nuking the Federation planets right now...

Why bother with Nuking. Just decimate the atmosphere with bioweapons?.

anybody spot the wild animals put in on tribble? Not being content with killing sentient beings we now decimate the local wildlife as well.
