With Season 2 arriving next week, and a big Tribble weekend coming, it is time to start the hype. Reading these forums, and this one specifically, can be maddening most of the time. Do you really know what is going on? Is the sky really falling around Cryptic?
For the record, I have played Tribble every day since Season 2 was published, on either my Vice Admiral 1 Federation Engineer Galrahn, or my Lt General 1 Klingon Engineer Semtuk. I've already expressed my displeasure with Season 2 on the Klingon side: but I'll sum it up quick. In Season 2, Klingons will have the best missions in Star Trek Online, but is a dieing faction in need of serious attention to several functional problems. Those issues will be addressed down the road, but Season 2 is largely a D grade from me for Klingons. Without the amazing missions, it would be a F.
But that is also why I have spent a great deal of time playing my Federation Engineer on Tribble. If you play Federation, whether PvE or PvP or RP playstyle, Season 2 gets a solid A grade from me. It's fantastic, it's dynamic, and it is the first time since I began playing after release where STO is really starting to feel like it has depth to the game in the Federation gameplay experience. There is clearly plenty more to do, but the foundation of the game is taking shape - and I really like.
I'm not going to even try to list out all the things that impress me about Season 2, because I don't think I have to. Many of you will be on Tribble this weekend. To get your intellectual juices flowing and help deliver some anticipation to Season 2, I thought I'd share how Vice Admiral Galrahn has been working with the Systems Performance Engineers at Earth Spacedock, and a new variant of the Galaxy-R has been produced - the USS Talladega class cruiser - coming soon with Season 2. I encourage you Vice Admirals to test on Tribble and refine as necessary. This is only a tiny sample of how all these new Season 2 changes are coming together to give us new ways to play.
I like my women like I like my Talladega class cruiser: high performance, fast, and with all the features. - Galrahn, Vice Admiral, Starfleet Engineering
The new Galaxy-R BOFF setup has been complained about because of too much Engineering. Avoid the hype; this new configuration with the Ensign Engineer BOFF is fantastic - Klingons have enjoyed it since release. Thanks to this BOFF configuration, the Galaxy-R can be the fastest starship in the Federation, and a unique way to play (and great fun in PvE). This new "super fast" template can be put together in several ways. Personally, I like this one for PvE.
CDR Engineer Officer
Emergency Power to Engines I
Reverse Shield Polarity I
Auxiliary Power to Internal Dampeners II
Auxiliary Power to Structural Integrity Field III
LCDR Engineer Officer
Emergency Power to Engines I
Reverse Shield Polarity I
Auxiliary Power to Internal Dampeners II
ENS Engineer Officer
Engineer Team I
LT Tactical Officer
Torpedo: High Yield I
Beam: Overload II
Science Tactical Officer
Polarize Hull I
Polarize Hull II
I have Captain traits Efficiency and Warp Theorist, and like everyone else I bought the C-Store Borg BOFF with Efficiency. With power set to 75/25/25/75, using 1 Plasma Distribution Manifold consoles and 1 Booster Modulator consoles, 2 RCS Accelerator consoles, and 9 in the following skills:
Warp Core Training
Engine Efficiency
Shield Efficiency
Engine Performance
Shield Performance
Auxiliary Systems Performance
Weapon Systems Performance
Power will be set at 95/57/57/95. By rotating Emergency Power to Engines I, I get 95/57/80/95. With EPS III (I play an Engineer) that bumps my power up to 125/89/111/125 for 30 seconds every 90 seconds.
The key here:
Emergency Power to Engines has been changed on Tribble, and is now giving me a very noticeable 4 second speed boost every 30 seconds. Auxiliary Power to Internal Dampeners II is giving me a huge speed and turn boost every ~17.5-20 seconds. These two skills (4 total), constantly spammed, provide an enormous speed/turn boost for 20 of every 30 seconds (and during the 30 seconds of EPS III, HOLD ON to your OH **** Handle!!) - then if I do a saucer separation I can run circles around Federation Escort friends like they are standing still. This doesn't count movement bonuses from Evasive Maneuvers (or Ramming Speed) - and both stack on top of all this other speed.
You will find yourself rarely using Impulse power anymore in space.
Remember, use beams. You'll know why when you are turning crazy circles around your enemy or try using a cannon and find you fired once before zooming right by your target. It takes a lot of practice to get used to, and Polarize Hull is a must because tractor beam can disrupt your stride - but the Galaxy-R allows for the fastest sustained speed ship in the game to date. The USS Talladega class cruiser, and hundreds of other new and exciting features are coming with Season 2.
See you on Tribble.
Vice Admiral Galrahn
Lead - Systems Performance Engineering Division
Lead - Talladega Class Cruiser
Earth Spacedock
I named the ship USS Talladega on Tribble because my toon comes from the planet Talladega Minor, but it was a play on words with Talledagga - which is what you guys are referring.
im confused to
feds never make any sense...
We want better ships so we can pvp then when klings leave they still want better ships to kill klingons that dont pvp no more cause they all do pve....
btw for fun try this
type "lol limewire" in google then press try you luck
so bascially u want a super tank and klingons get a crappy carrier? while lets see 3 refits ,2 cstore ships and now this ship?
I dunno what you are complaining about, my Klingon Battlecruiser has been running with a similar configuration since Season 1.2 was released, and KllingMeSoftly has a Klingon Battlecruiser configuration that goes well beyond even this one for movement and speed.
With the new BOFF config for Galaxy-R, you can now do it with the Feds too. The change to Emergency Power to Engines and Emergency Power to Weapons may seem like small changes, but they are not. Put two Emergency Power to Engine I skills on an Escort with high engine power, and see what happens.
Your cannon strikes will suck, and you'll need seat belts in your captains chair. Ironically though, the Galaxy-R in this or a variety of this configuration is even more insane, and changes the way you think about distance and speed in space gameplay.
Lots of fun, and only one little tidbit of all the stuff on Tribble that is really cool, live on Halodeck Tuesday.

These two statements tell me one thing... Klingons got bumped again.. So much for 45 days.... Season 1, or now.. .Season 2 for the fix.
