So, we're getting the Nebula and the Excelsior as both T3 and T5 ships with special abilities for each according to the developers. An AWACS system for the Nebula, supposedly and Transwarp for the Excelsior. So, if/when we see the Ambassador-class added to the game, what special ability would you give to the ship if it got a T5 refit? Maybe something like redundant systems that would allow you to 'reset' your ship if systems were knocked off-line?
I should hope you can't send your ship to an alternate future during every battle!
I think it shoudl just be a new skin for a T3 cruiser or science ship.
Heh, spacial warp! Teleport across the battle map with a 5 minute cooldown!
I doubt some players would be happy with it as just a T3 skin, the Ambassador is pretty iconic, only slightly behind the Excelsior and the Nebula, so I'm sure fans will want a T5 version the same as the other classic ships are getting.
No special abilities at all beyond have basic t5 cruiser consoles etc, except maybe a reduced turn rate and just a touch less hull to make up for my ability choice:
"The Romulans will get a good fight, we'll make it one for the history books."
"I know you will, captain"
Skill title: One Ship ...
On reaching 0 hull a 10 second immunity activates with a +50% bonus to weapons power and +75% weapons re-fire and tactical skill recharge rate, including torpedoes.
Shield recharge and hull recharge skills will -NOT- work during this, nor will healing from teammates. Your -will- blow
After the ten seconds is up, you blow.
Perhaps a 10 minute cooldown, not visible, but if one dies within the following ten minutes the skill does not activate.
OPTIONAL: *It plays the music that played when Picard took over the tactical console of the Enterprise D, allowing the Ent-C to escape*
Now for those unfamiliar with why this will be fitting for the Ambassador class...in ym opinion the Ambassador class Enterprise fought the most important battle in canon history.
The Klingons and Federation were once more in a cold war period, nearing open conflict. The Romulans were on the move, but no one knew of their activities.
The Romulans then took the advantage and launched a massive attack against a Klingon Starbase. The Enterprise - C arrived and fought off the Romulans, however, they could not win, they fought as logn and Hard as possible to save the lives of the Klingon civilians.
This the Klingons remembered, and once more brought the Klingons into Alliance with the Federation after the glorious sacrifice of the Enterprise - C and her crew.
rearrange the slots so that it either has an extra tactical console (minus a science or engineering) or an extra tactical bo stations, again in place of something else.
the extra tactical console or bo station is is memory of tasha yar who went over to help
I would like to think that itr would get NO unique ability.
Older ships that people really want, like the Excelsior and Ambassador, should have been made available as skins useable by any tier of cruiser up to say tier 4.
Hrm, it is a thought, basically the Ambassador is a cruiser hull, but a cruiser that gets bonuses to science skills like spacial anomaly...fascinating.
It should have an ability similar to Boarding Parties, in which you beam aboard an enemy ship a contingent of Diplomats, Accountants, Lawyers and other bureaucratic types (most likely Ferengi) who immediately force diplomatic negotiations on the enemies, thus completely shutting down their ship. This ability simply shuts down the enemy ship but does not destroy it as there are diplomats aboard, unless you're a Klingon Capt. in which case you can simply destroy the ships with the diplomats on it and later apologize to Adm. Quinn by singing a Klingon Opera!
It should be a COSMETIC item for T5 with no special ability, unless Cryptic is going to allow us to use it without paying for it.
I actually think it should be more tier 3 than 5, partly from the fact that its the precursor design to the Galaxy. That said I don't think the Nebula or Excelsior are tier 2/3 so....
If you press the Bridge down, the necelles light up and Picard says
"History shall never forget the name Enterprise!"
...oh wait... not an Art Asylum model
Skins don't work that way. Since T3 cruisers are 4 nacelled, the skin needs to cover their geometry.
This would have to be a new ship entirely. It can't be a skin AND be T3.
Ok...Make a new T3 cruiser with 2 nacelles. Like the TOS Enterprise, non combine-able / interchangeable with other ships parts.. Skin was the wrong term and for that I apologize.

Except people who want the Ambassador aren't going to want it for just a single tier, same as those that want a T5 for the Excelsior, Nebula, Defiant, Intrepid, etc.
I do rather like Sirius39s 'One Ship' power idea, though, it rather fits with the legend of the class.
"Magnificent Sacrifice" or "Honorable Death", you ship is destroyed during combat buffs damage to all ships targeting same ship you where targeting and maybe a diplomatic buff (donno how that system works yet):p
I think we could have it as a variant for the T5 ambassador
As a matter of fact, Paramount has a LOT of alternate design models for all of its ships, like the Ambassador, Miranda (if i'm not mistaken, first sketch of it was upside down), Nebula, Defiant, Intrepid.. and the list goes on.
Since Cryptic obviously has access to these, i don't know why they didn't used them instead of the not-so-cool Cryptic original models (Stargazer anyone? T3 science ships??? Sheesh...)
I like the Anomoly idea for the Ambassador, it is a nice tribute to the vortex.
However, I think the Ambassador's should be similar to Tactical's "Go Down Fighting". But instead of a power boost to weapons, it's a hull and shield resistance for 15 to 30 seconds. Where the more damage you take, the stronger the resistance. (But not as strong as the Intrepid Refit's Ablative Hull Generator).
if they give it a power i would like some inside joke to yesterdays enterprise, so something to do with spacial anomalies.
although i do hope they start doing some klingon ships before they worry about the ambassador class
The best power 'special power' (imo) would be a Tactical Officer from the Future (a BUUILT in extra Tactical Officer slot - pre-slotted with a fully trained Tac BO with some special abilities you can use in space combat):cool:

Sorry if my post came off like a donkey's posterior. It's just I frequently see it suggested in some other forums (mostly the C-Store forum these days) to just make X, Y or Z a "skin" and I think a lot of times people in those threads forget how the skins work. The geometry of the model and what not. And it's almost always T3 cruiser being offered up as the "utility infielder" for all sorts of non-T5 ship ideas. Like everything just neatly fits into commander level cruiser. But that's always the hardest slot in terms of skinning because it has the weirdest geometry.
I shall reign in my "issues" and endeavor to be less of an @#$% about things.
one of a few natural things occur to me with the ship,
1. a natural resistance to all plasma weapons since they are what romulan ships fire
2. a 2% resistance to npc klingon and romulan attacks
3. one of your bridge officers survives the ships death to have a child that becomes the romulan empress making you the godfather of the romulan empire
4. tripple the range of the ships explotion causing damage.

"The Ambassador-class featured the saucer section-engineering section-warp nacelle layout common to most Starfleet vessels. It was intermediate in size between the Excelsior-class and the Galaxy-class. In addition, the class boasted at least three engineering levels. (TNG: "Yesterday's Enterprise") "
There is your answer! Give it THREE engineering slots at Lt. Commander level!

Music heard here just after Riker dies and Picard jumps over to tactical: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tmk7jCbETIE

Not sure, just pick one ability from the Escorts/Tactical BO tree that it would have the most problems with actually using.
