Okay, the mainstream Cardassians are in final talks to join the Federation.
So when people talk about a Cardassian faction, are they talking about The True Way (basically the Cardassian Marquis) or the New Dominion with Cardassian recruits?
Because the average Cardassian now wants to join the Federation and their government is on the verge of that.
As a fan of the Cardassians I hope it is the True Way Cardassians and not the Dominion allied Cardassians. Although I wouldn't mind if they implemented the Cardassians as a new playable race for the Federation.
but i can understand if they want to bundle the dominion and the cardassians into one and have one big faction so i can live with the true way.
it would be easier for them (and let be honest there was only ever shown 3 cardassian ships on the shows so good luck making 50 odd ships, devs)
Cardassians are my favorite star trek alien, so I would love a Cardassian faction. Sure, lump them in with the Dominion, I guess...but I'd be more interested in the mainstream, Federation allied Cardassia and how they're trying to quell the True Way dissident.
I would keep the "True-way" as a NPC adversary race and allow the remaining Cardasians as a memeber playeable race for the Feds, much like the Gorn & Orions are going to be for the Klingons.
Thing is, what a lot of people would want from playable Cardassians...is a classic Cardassian experience.
Federation is a bunch of self-righteous bleeding-heart hero types. Klingons are rawwr grrr honour warriors. Romulans are sneaky backstabbing spys.
And the Cardassians, as portrayed through most of Deep Space Nine, are paranoid military fascists.
The main Cardassian government isn't like that anymore. And that's canonical, more or less. At the end of DS9 they got bombed into oblivion, so they're now playing nice and happy cute Federation friends.
But STO gives us the True Way, which are old school Cardassians...
So it's more likely that playable Cardassians would be True Way. But it really doesn't matter all that much, because a) the devs have said they're concentrating on fleshing out Klingons first before adding any new faction, and b) when they do add a new faction, it'll be Romulans first.
The Cardassian government wants to join the Federation. However there's too much strife.
It's against the rules to accept a member into the Federation who's on the verge of civil war. However the Federation might make an exception here because it would be a huge win to turn over the Cardassians. I'm sure there's support on both sides.
I'd love to see the Federation attempt to Absorb the Cardassian government and because of it and the controversy on both sides the True Way gets more support.
The True Way, though apparently some are loyal to the Dominion, should NOT be Dominion. Meaning NO FOUNDERS.
The True Way would rebel against the Federation and garner conservative support. They'd use technology they obtained from the Dominion mainly and be compromised of Cardassians, Jem'Hadar cloned by the Cardassians, and Vorta cloned by the Cardassians.
Basically they'd have a lot of the same races. They just wouldn't be Dominion.
I say no Founders because they freakin' attacked Cardassia and the majority of Cardassians probably would fight them no matter what.
Comments
so i would do them separately

^this^
which works nicely for content as both would be rather lacking on their own.

True Way as playable faction is my wish.
