Why I am so FRUSTRATED

This is NOT an I QUIT thread...because I CAN'T quit...I bought a Life Time SUB......

This game bugs me to no end. I have been here since beta, and followed the game since perpetual. I have been waiting for this game, (like many) for years, and I have never (I MEAN NEVER) atticipated a game so much in my entire life. Then the game is here, and at the core of me I am DISAPOINTED!!!

I can barely bring myself to play the game. Now and again I log on and I play simply because I spent money on it. I feel like I HAVE to play to try to recoup my losses. The ground game sucks, sector space sucks, its all windows and instances, not very social, the only decent (and I mean decent, not good) thing about this game is the space combat. Exepct that your tiny little ship can defeat entire fleets of enemies, and that becomes a grind also.

Now the interiors are coming, hmmmmmmmm.....some interest is brewing.....but alas....Cryptic has to dissapoint yet again because they designed the game so badly that you cannot be in your ship and travel with your ship at the same time. COME ON......REALLY......THIS WAS NEVER CONSIDERED!!!!!

People said, this game is rushed. Its not ready, its going to flop. Things arent complete, its full of bugs....on and on...yet I didnt listen. I convinced myself that this was going to be good....maybe it still can be...but I cannot lie to myself any longer. This game is in serious jepordy....craig knew it and jumped ship....of course the ship doesnt travel so it wasnt difficult to jump off (a low blow, I know, craig didnt 'jump ship', but i like how it fit in my rant);)

I am sorry to be so negative, and bashing, but I just simply feel I did not get value for my money and I am very dissapointed in the overall game.

Games I have purchased and been playing since STO:

CoD MW2 - AWESOME
Alpha Protocol - AWESOME
Heavy RAIN - VERY COOL
TIGER WOODS 2010 - GOLF ROCKS

There are a bunch more I would love to buy and play, yet i spent the majority of my game budget on STO. If I didnt have a lifetime sub, I would have quit after the demo, like many others.....

Go ahead, close my thread......make my day!!!

Here is what you do. I did this and it worked wonders.

take a break. put a reminder on your computer for two to three months, and take a break. uninstall the game, do not look at the forums, or dev updates, and take a break from STO for three months. play other games until that date of your return, and then see how you feel about the game.

I did this for two, and a half months, and now I'm logging in nearly every day, and I'm having fun. that is the big part. so take a break from it all. that is the best I can tell you, and there are a few others who also did this, and it worked for them.

you mite as well try this because you do have a life time sub.

But you know whats funny? they prolly planned on making this F2P all along...sigh and they still wont even give klingons 1 hour a week in dev land.....

I am pretty dissapointed even tho I love trek and Klingons <ever since I was little they have always been my fav.> I am still bothered and on top of it there is no other Star Trek game like this so im stuck.

It does make me feel better, because I feel robbed, and I know I'm not the only one. I really want to enjoy this game, and love to play it....but I cannot lie to myself. I have played WAY to many games, especially Star Trek games to continue this lie.

I wish I could get 'A Final Unity' working again. I never got to finish that game. Got stuck at some black hole, but that was a decent star trek game. Bridge Commander and the original 25th Anniversary and Judgment Rites are the best ST games.

You know I just realized...when ST Legacy came out I was like...this game is C#$P, but in retrospect, its not as bad as STO..... with the mods that have come out for it, it is a pretty fun game.

Its like, there are TONNES of star trek games where you combat on the ship... so the fact that ship combat is the only decent thing about STO makes you wonder why... what REALLY sets it apart from the other ST games???? If I was to list ST games in order of greatest to cr#$piest, my list would look like this:

    ST: Bridge Commander
    ST: Judgment Rites
    ST: 25th Anniversary
    ST: Armada
    ST: Armada II
ST: Elite Force II (never played the first one but heard it was pretty good)
    ST: Away Team
    ST: A Final Unity
    ST: Legacy
    ST: Online
ST: Ship Creator (by far the worst ST game I have ever played)

Or, find the receipt of your original purchase, and next time you have to take a dump, drop it in the bowl and TRIBBLE on them for once... This one worked for a friend....

Actually you can. You can stop playing any time you want, and come back for free. You have free will, whether you choose to use it or not.

Your only real problem, obviously, was high expectations.

Never, ever let hype and excessive fandom get involved with your gaming, and you'll be so much happier with pretty much everything you buy.

well that comes down to opinion. some people need a break from time to time, and this worked for me. I also know there are others that this worked for. you also have to take in account that during that time the game will have new things added to it. to answer your main just because you take a break does not make the game bad. MW2 is a great online game, but I get burnt out on it, and so I normally have to take a few weeks to a month off. same thing with halo 3's multiplayer, the people are annoying, so I have to take breaks from that also, but those two games are not bad games. so just because you take a break does not mean the game is bad.

Idunno. Stuff like the ship not being able to move at all while the captain is doing things aboardship... that strikes me as a basic, reasonable expectation.

This whole episode is just sad. The team is well aware that there is an issue that they need to deal with, and throughout the whole day we have heard nothing from anyone. I guess I should have known better when Atari got it's hands on this that it would'nt end well. I really do feel sorry for all of you that bought the LTS. I tried to at the time, but was a bit short. I guess EvE will tide me over for a while. :(

I think the point is, the game was released in feb 2010, it is now july 2010 - in that short period, someone takes a 2 and a half month break. That is a large gap to take in a game... err MMO that was just released.

If you, and others feel that a 2 and a half month break in a game that was out for about 5 months was just due to burn out, thats cool and of course is open to opinion. The greater question as to why people had to break away from a MMO so soon is of course, left open.

Oh no, the question itself is not open. In fact it is very clear. What is currently being left open is why Cryptic refuses to do anything about it.

well I took my break a month after launch because I did not agree with the marketing. why people do it can come down to many reason. all I'm offering is a way that I have seen that works, and a way that mite help another star trek fan. it is worth a try because he did buy a life time. if he takes a break, comes back, and then starts having fun that is a good thing. all I know is it worked for me, and a few others. If you want to find something wrong with taking a break that is fine, but I'm just here to offer help to someone who dropped a lot of money on this game.

The game itself is improving and is great fun.

Most of these threads hinge on a couple of basic complaints.

1- Spending money for extra items. Items no one needs to have fun in-game.

2- Chewed through content too fast. This is a staple issue with MMORPGs. Content is slow to make, quick to play through.

3- Bugs. Some take forever to fix. Some get fixed quick.

That's it. That's all the relevant content of the threads like this.

The OP sees this list in a slightly different way than I do:
    ST: Bridge Commander
    ST: Judgment Rites
    ST: 25th Anniversary
    ST: Armada
    ST: Armada II
ST: Elite Force II (never played the first one but heard it was pretty good)
    ST: Away Team
    ST: A Final Unity
    ST: Legacy
    ST: Online
ST: Ship Creator (by far the worst ST game I have ever played)

I see that as a list of Star Trek games the OP no longer plays.

Video games are disposable entertainment. They always have been. Does the OP feel robbe by Star Trek Armada? If not ... why not?

as I said, it is left to opinions. I didn't attempt to pigeon hole or drive you into a corner - so please don't begin trying to put points in my post - points not intended.

While I am glad you told us that you took a break due to marketing... Mostly I am very intrigued now, as you now stated, you left for marketing reasons... and yet, you return and enjoy the game, after ?nothing? has changed in marketing. Curious. Or maybe I just missed the change in marketing that drew you back.

Anyhoo, it wasn't just about you in total, I just wondered why 'others' felt they had to jump off a MMO so short into the lifespan. No harm in pondering that, and certainly no harm in telling someone to take a break - I just wondered aloud why so many did/needed it [a break] so shortly after release, and if a game is truly 'good', if a break is needed to enjoy the game.

The other reply above seems to have a theory on that. Also intriguing.

    .

I was mad a marketing, and I got to the point where I could not log in. in a way my anger made it were I could not find anything good about the game. after I had been away from the game I got the urge to come back and check it out again, and to my surprise I was having fun. the game wasn't as buggy, and there were a few improvements, but the biggest thing was the fact that I was having fun. granted I was angry at marketing in February, and because of that it burnt me out. after taking a break you could say I was recharged.

( just to let you know this is not the only MMO. I was burnt out after two months of playing ever, and POTBS, and many times I had to take a few weeks off of SWG )

(( also sorry if that did come off wrong, I was just stating that I do not want to debate what worked for me. not that you are backing me in a corner. I just don't want to debate it because there are bigger fish to fry, like the questions for Dstahl. maybe there is something you want to ask? ))
