There is a feature article on the Iconians in the new Star Trek magazine. I did'nt read all of the article but it says that we will meet them in season 2 and fight them in season 3!
Sadly, that doesn't get me all hyped up. No, i mean, interacting and fighting Iconians does, but the way i see it in-game now, with the suspense factor, it shouldnt be announced so boldly in the mag. Who in the world allowed that to get out...

True, we would logically fight them eventually. Its just....dont steal the setup we have in the game, and what can be a nice surprise, even if we can already guess it.
They are never stated as extinct. In TNG, they are mentioned as being nearly destroyed but escaped via their doors - all of this centuries ago.
That's a lot of prep time for them - not to mention the Devs apparently out-canon-ed you on that issue.
Yeah, Iconians were never stated to be extinct, just nearly wiped out and *probably* extinct. Still, i anticipate threads bashing it as uncanon. Shows how consistent canon is among us fans.
Actually how would canon work here if in TNG they did say they were extinct? That would just be the guesswork by starfleet, they cant know for sure either. So...that would be....what kind of canon. Lol.
What exactly is it about Star Trek purists that make them the least imaginative people on Earth?
I don't know.
I just watched the TNG episode dealing with Iconians last month. It doesn't say they're extinct - not when half the episode is spent establishing that they escaped through magic doorways that allow Picard to somehow get aboard the Romulan vessel for a Dues Ex Machina ending.
This is a bit silly, Canon said Iconians are Extinct, and now they show up in STO and we slaughter them? Good old STO and the crazy writing threads.
Oh I am going to have fun with this comment (Vulcan ears start to pop put). Many time the Iconians have been referenced as though to be extinct, with the destruction of there homeworld in the Neutral Zone. However, it has been said in several episodes of The Next Generation, and one episode of DS9 that they now believe the Iconians used there gateways to travel to other parts of the Galaxy to avoid the destruction of their race. Star Trek has hinted for a long time that the Iconians were lurking around, I am surprised there violent though. Picard believed that they were peaceful, and were destroyed because they were feared, and History is written by the victor.
Edit: Rule of Acc Number 263, when writing a stick it to you post, make sure to run it through a spell check first.

There was a dev post a long time ago hinting that while the Iconians may be behind the Hobus subspace supernova that nearly wiped out the galaxy and all the wars, the enemies that drove the Iconians into hiding may also be a threat down the line. Or that the Iconians have some mysterious allies.
It had something to do with the idea that the Iconians used gateways and not starships and how it was a mysterious STARSHIP that attacked us at Iconia.

You know, if a supernova was threatening the entire galaxy, that had to be one BIG star.

Q Jr. already drops the spoiler in-game fairly explicitly, though it requires that you know something about the Iconians from the relevant episode to catch the reference.

No, canon strongly suggested that they did not go extinct with the bombardment of their homeworld, merely that their civilization and dominant status collapsed. There are references made in the episode to similar languages to Iconian being found all over the place, much like some similarities in ancient scripts on Earth are taken as support of the Atlantean Diaspora myth/hypothesis. And then there's the fully functional gateway hub that they beam down to - they'd have to have been idiots not to evacuate.

Eh, I don't think it classifies as Deus Ex Machina, because the Gateways were just begging to be used. More an example of firing Chekov's Gun than anything, I think.
I think you'd need a rather large star to affect subspace at all.
It wasn't the star itself, it was unusually high quantities of decalithium (and other stuff, it would seem, based on the mission to Hobus) in the system that channeled the shockwave through subspace to various places.

Would not the destruction of subspace render that entire area completely impassable? That is to say, there should be no ability to travel to the remnants of Romulus.
I've always been totally unclear as to how a black hole would've stopped this, also.

sigh... i thought that it was established that they were misunderstood and peaceful, and simply ran away from fights with their portals...
so I guess now they decided to seek revenge and kill the universe... oh goodie

Basically, the weapon used to destroy Hobus not ONLY destroyed the star but changed its debris into weapons and sent the star into warp as it went supernova. Something along those lines.
It was a completely unnatural supernova and it was weaponized to cause a chain reaction of stars blowing up and launching debris at high warp.

....
Ok. But how does a black hole stop that? Presumably that shockwave radiates out in a full spherical trajectory. Unless you put the black hole next to the star before it goes nova, which obviously did not occur or Romulus would still exist, it's only going to protect some small sliver of space.

And they're saying the Iconians did this?
I believe the blackhole was to contain the second subspace supernova in the chain reaction.
Comments
They als ohad a picture of them
The Iconians practically say "eat this!" after taking out the Undine with ease.
So i'd say that they will be lvl 51-61 foes.
Or level 51-56 and 56-61 will be someone else, even more powerfull..
Dyson sphere builders anyone?
Nope. I'd say the Breen will be.
Iconians seem to be Raid foes or later enemies.

Iconians....our characters live in fun times...

Because you must bow to the altar of canon. Even though the show doesnt

I was reading it at borders (along with a doctor Who book
Damn, all the bookstores have gone online around me >.<

The Supernova was destroying Subspace, and was moving through it at almost transwarp speeds.

I can see why this exposition did not make it into the movie.
But sometimes the History writen by the victor is right.
