It's especially glaring because they made physical updates to the Advanced Escorts.

I think that the emitters are on the pylons rather than coming from the nacelles...

Just as terrible as normal beams getting shot from somewhere above and behind your ship; completely disconnected from the model itself. I keep getting this with my Advanced Escort, doesn't matter which skin is applied.

I always found it kinda odd that most federation ships don't have weapons on the nacelles. Especially considering the immense arc they could have.

Certain Galaxy class ships do. But its generally because the Nacelles are considered to be fragile and/or dangerous to have anything near them.

Ramming Shinzon's vessel with the front of the ship in Nemesis was a sound tactical choice. Ramming it with the nacelles would have blown the Enterprise up instantly.

We've been shown again and again, such as in Cause and Effect and Equinox that a blown nacelle is tantamount to a death sentence for a ship. Mounting weapons on them just makes them an even juicer target.

This is of course aside from the fact that nacelles are as large as they are for a reason, warp coils take up a lot of room. It's probably not as simple as just "stick a gun right there", as you would need to mount the machinery, supply power and control system, etcetera.

Not necessarily. The Reliant lost a nacelle in ST:II. Many ships in the Wolf 359 graveyard had nacelles (as well as significant stardrive section loss) missing and not be a cloud of vapor. The 1701-D has taken many shots to the nacelles and come away intact.

I see it as more of a situation of not wanting to complicate power lines as we can tell from shuttlecraft, runabouts, and very small ships (such as the Defiant and BoPs) that energy weapons themselves do not take up much space.

I dont think hitting the nacelles will destroy a ship, in the case of the Equinox.. it was destroyed by a warp core breach..... not a ruptured warp nacelle. Damaging a warp nacelle would prevent a ship going to warp..... Thats why you would not want weapons on the nacelles.

Remember when they want to disable a ship they do not target the warp core...... they hit the nacelles and impulse engines.

also they have no need for wepaons on there as their other weapons cover them.

starfleet vessels have some of the best 360 degree coverage for firepower. It always made them weapon in the front tal assault, but beyond that it works great.

As for nacelles you want to keep them to go into warp :) but loosing one won't be the instant death sentence the conequences of not being able to run away might be :)
